Cork has the 6th lowest case's per population in the country so this is no surprise honestly. We never had more than 40 cases at once in the hospital.

South doing well, University Hospital Waterford has 1 case currently and 7 quarantined waiting test results. No one in ICU.

The fact that horse racing has been given preferential treatment and is being allowed back on June 8th makes me sick to my stomach. Anyone remember Cheltenham?

The COVID ward in Cork University Hospital has been dispanded, yet we're paying €115,000,000 per month to keep private hospitals empty, not diagnosing and treating enough people with non-COVID illnesses, stopping people from seeing their family and friends, stopping people from earning an honest living.

Not true everywhere. Here I know of two patients that would have been seen in the public hospital that ended up in the private. One inpatient and one outpatient.
I think the private hospitals should be used now to help clear the backlog of patient appointments that have, buildt up in some areas.
And wasn't part of the problem that some private consultants didnt like the contract anyhow in the first place?

It's behind closed doors. Clearly their plan ticks all the boxes.

There's a thing called rationality. Rational people want to make sure this is the only lockdown, rational people want to prevent the loss of as many lives as possible.
Rational people don't want to damage the economy anymore than has already been done.
What's worse than one lockdown? A second lockdown because markets plan for the future and uncertainty drives people away. A second lockdown will do more damage to our economy than this one ever will.
I'm just constantly bemused and distraught by the lack of actions from our government. Implement state quarantine for all incomers, order that masks be used on public transport, in shops, urban areas etc. Then we can all get back to work and not have to worry about a second lockdown.
From the many zoom calls over the last couple of days I am hearing parents talking about home schooling until this thing is gone. That means no work for them. That means that many people are going to stay locked down.
Get the quarantine in place and make an order about facemasks and we will all be back to a near normal in July.

Italy allowing inward foreign travel June 3rd, whilst we will still only be allowed travel up to 20km.

It makes sense to have a phased reopening. We will be able to see from Italy if they develop new clusters of cases.

The longest reopening in Europe, nope makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Yeah and it reminds me of the ill that's never discussed by government's and that's gambling addiction. It's very destructive, has broken up many families and left many in council houses and on the street, also is responsible for a high number of suicides.
I personally believe that a system should be put in place where there is a state account for anybody that wants to gamble and that the money in there is all you can use for gambling and that amount is set by a state body based on your income. Bookmakers can fund this and for that funding they get added to the list of places where this account can be used.
Obviously if you are on any type of welfare you don't get to put money in there.
I know this doesn't really belong here but it's just that when the horse racing was raised I am just asking why and my guess is there are brown envelopes going somewhere from the bookies to get racing up and running.

This is a piece about something called a 'long tail' illness with covid19. People who are not too sick or too ill for the hospital, and are considered 'mild' cases as in, not needing hospital care but the illness/or recovery drags on.

There's reports of a long tail illness from the US and the UK. I don't know about any where else in Europe? Would there be any evidence of a long tail illness happening here in Ireland?

That the CMO called it a living breathing document and not set in stone suggests it doesn't have to be. Phase 1 IMO will be the full 3 weeks but I can see them looking at adjusting it, all being well.

If you don't like it you are free to get on a plane and go somewhere that is more 'open'.

While I agree betting shops especially online should be more proactive in who they serve I do not see why the government should act as a nanny state like your suggesting. Should they do the same for other things people can become addicted to

As long as they don't mind spending a period of that time in lockdown also.

Exactly. And we have the advantage of watching what works and what doesn't work in other countries, and adjusting accordingly.

Not so. Go to Italy from June 3rd with no quarantine.

You can stay behind your couch but folk should start getting on with their lives.

Or to stay put and lobby the government to open up sooner.

If you into the detail in the twitter thread it appears to be indicating very positive news both about antibodies being developed by those who get COVID, but also indicates that there appears to be a level of immunity to COVID due to another coronavirus which causes the common cold, if I've understood what they are saying correctly

Hopefully some on here who understands this stuff can correct me if I've got it wrong
If confirmed it would go a long way to explaining the anomalous effects of COVID-19 on apparently similar victims.

It would also rather neatly account for the virtual immunity of young children, the cohort suffering the highest incidence of the common cold annually.

Whereas the impact of severe COVID-19 infection is heavy skewing towards the eldest cohorts of the population, which suffer the lowest incidence of the common cold annually.

One group never did lockdown and seem to be doing fine

We should be doing antibody tests on them first and see the results of no lockdown, they'll have made one contribution

Would that be our travelling community who have a positive test rate of 48% of those tested, compared to an overall positive rate of 3% of those tested?

UK reports 468 new deaths and 3,450 new cases.

And the British government is requesting that we don't ask their citizens to quarantine....

...on the basis that we don't have to quarantine there.

Kind of easier for the country that's riddled I guess.

Yes. I've had symptoms since the 1st of March. On my 4th period of self isolation; though at least this time I've been told to try and get light exercise if I feel up to it. As long as I maintain social distancing.

Can barely make it 2km form the house, never mind 5km.
