If there's a plastic screen (like the one used at shop checkouts) and plenty of hand sanitiser beside the driver's seat then the driver will be fine.

WHat help is plastic screen from other adults on the bus. Plastic screen to protect driver. Should be mandatory on public transport

And you know this for certain?

Will Bus Éireann be making an official statement on whether or not the wearing of face-coverings by passengers is mandatory?

No because it's not government policy to make them mandatory. It's only advice non enforceable

I watched a 90 second video on the you tube that explains how to put on a face mask. I might even watch it again to be double sure. Then tomorrow when I venture out to the supermarket I am gonna try this strange new contraption in my life.

This is a fantastic tutorial. Very comfortable and snug!! No need to sew either.

Great to at last see this public recommendation.
Lot of the anti-maskers on here now will be caught rotten.

How will they be caught rotten ?? Nobody has to wear one if they dont want to.

It was clearly said that people shouldn't pass comment or criticise someone who isn't wearing one.

Saw earlier a survey that said only 30% of people said they'd wear one if it was a recommendation and not mandatory.

Nope, because as usual with what passes for our authorities(and it would be the same for any party in power) it's the usual wishy washy pronouncement, sure it's up to you, be grand. Which completely defeats the purpose of masks with regard to community spread. God forbid those maddeningly mediocre muppets would make a stand on anything. Outside of shutting down businesses and schools and setting up the covid payment scheme damned near every other measure the Irish government have taken during this crisis has been half arsed, delayed or quite simply non existent and people have died because of it. Did they look to nations that were doing and did better? Nope, they looked at utter disasters like Italy, Spain and Britain and figured we were doing OK. But shure aren't we doin only great for a little island.

And going by deaths per million...

Like I said earlier in the thread, thank christ this wasn't something like smallpox or we would have been truly and utterly fcuked.

There is a large portion of people spouting the lie that a mask is useless. This is simply not evidence based. If everyone wears a mask the transmission numbers will drop significantly.

I think people absolutely should be criticised for not wearing one. My workplace won’t allow anyone in without a mask and many others will be the same as they open up. Should be law in all public spaces and supermarkets imo. Still boggles my mind that people are against it. Is it just because they’re uncomfortable? If so thats disgustingly selfish.

What about between passengers? We're not all going to get a plastic screen at seats?

You don't have to wear a mask if you suffer from something, like allergies.

What do you suffer from? Allergies? Asthma? COPD?

At this point we have embraced personal responsibility and many continue to observe social distancing.

Well what an absolute joke, wear masks if you want to. Absolutely nothing new there really. Myself and two others wore masks at the shop today. Loads more customers and nothing. So nothing changes with this advisory, a few with masks, the majority with gloves.

The Government have advised that people where a face covering. They have not made it mandatory. And so no one has to wear one, which is the reason I suspect most people wont wear one

How do you distance yourself on a bus? It's not going to stop a sneeze which can travel 8 meters. Going out as if you're infected and wearing a mask is taking personal responsibility.

This was spelt out as the approach since the idea was mentioned.

The science of wearing face-masks in not entirely conclusive!

Not can, could and a sneeze of that power is likely to propel it to the ground. We can only make decisions for ourselves as it's not good for mental health to become anxious over what we believe others are not doing.

We are meant to continue with other measures... That's ok... but what do you do in situations where distancing is difficult? How is this allowed, giving people a choice to infect others?

I hate to break it to you, but neither is the science of social distancing, lockdowns, 2k exercise limits and hand washing has variable results in studies.

Do you just pick thought outa your head and reckon that passes for facts? Maybe you should read actual research on respiratory disease spread.

On this we agree. I used to very much agree and be on board with community action like they have taken in other nations, but after seeing too many idiots and me feiners about not giving a feck but for themselves at this point and not a lot of community agreement save for following the governments oft daft and nearly always delayed actions, I take simple precautions which include wearing a mask for me and my health. Fcuk everyone else TBH.

I'm making the point in general not about me personally.

It's been quite clearly stated it's not mandatory and is up to the individual. Allergy or no allergy it's up to each person

Only an Irish government could clearly state a sit on the fence advisory and only the Irish people could take it as effective leadership.

Wearing a medical mask is unlikely to be of any benefit if you are not sick.
