Bolsonaro, Johnson, Trump - what do they all have in common regarding the pandemic?

All the worst figures in the world.

Elect stupid leadership get stupid results.

Sure, it was fun at the time - elect them just to stick it to the system.

Problem is when an actual crisis arrives you get the results such leadership provides.

It's privatised space route to Mars so only certain people will be able to go. And in the context of Earth becoming effectively inhabitable due to climate change in not too distant future. Doesn't seem to far-fetched to think wealthy are hoping to have a back-up planet once they've extracted all they can from Earth and leave the poor behind on Earth.

Looks like those pessimistic predictions from a few weeks ago of half of the deaths in Europe being in the UK will probably come to fruition
That's what happens when the politicians are running the show.....

Having said that when they read out the country figures across the 4 nations it was just over 400. There's also the weekend dip thing to consider and there was probably a bit of "catch-up" in today's figure

Nah, he is not "elected" in the way we might traditionally think of democratic politics :pac:

A significant cohort of the American public will not accept a reinstatement of containment measures under any circumstances. So the US will be taking the herd immunity option by default

That's only hospital deaths. Full figure is given in the evening now.

I don't know what they're at. The projected figure was revised upwards 5 times in space of 13 days. They're nowhere near ready to open the economy. Trump either thinks or let's on to think that the Democrats want economy closed to hurt him politically so he will lose in November. He doesnt seem to think or care that thousands of preventable deaths in US will be the result. Its shocking. I know some people think criticism of Trump is exaggerated but this shows how disastrous hes been. The worst US president at the worst time.

And that's before the possibility of further waves

They's gone from something like 34 to 80,000 in 2 months though, and even if they are on top of it now (and many States may well be) it's probably going to be a long tail to the chart

I thought yesterday's figure looked quite promising, but they are back up to 1,500 today. LA County has announced they could extend their stay at home order until July. I guess it's such a big place it's going to be relatively easy for new clusters to crop up. I don't know how much internal travel continues, but the amount of internal flights do risk a rapid escalation

CNN are just saying Disney World (Florida) are taking bookings for July - that really could become a hot bed for this virus if something goes wrong

Insanity but then again the state declared WWE as an "essential service".

They have a ridiculous republican governor who is in Trump's circle.

The fish rots from the head down.

I don't see the state making it to July without a complete shut down anyhow.

The US has a very dramatic weekend lull. There is still not the same major downward trend occurring there that has been seen in Europe (excluding UK), but they are opening in full force regardless

I'm guessing there's much more of a lag for the non-hospital numbers though. Given their hospital numbers were much higher before they started adding the non-hospital figures, I think their numbers have dropped significantly. Whether enough to warrant more opening up remains to be seen.

The fact this can be asymptomatic does beg questions over anywhere that is opening up. At this stage we don't really know how many could be capable of spreading this at present.

There's gonna be major issues in Russia. A Youtuber I watch over there is showing videos of the traffic on the streets after Putin's "go back to work" announcement. Incredible stuff.

The tories have extended furlough scheme to October.

So they implicitly acknowledge big problems ahead yet push to open anyhow.

They have the 3rd worst death toll in the world today so far just behind Brazil.

The problem is that some states, probably including Florida, are capable of ploughing on regardless. I'm also concerned that Trump is capable of doing some ridiculous things particularly as he ramps up his actions to try and capture more votes.

Yes but there is two critical dangers with Florida for Trump...

    1. It has a very politically sensitive constituency of pensioners

    2. By extension it has a vulnerable constituency to the virus

They start seeing their neighbors disappear and he is in big trouble in a critical swing state. He needs to win Florida one way or another.

I'm not sure I would be confident about figures coming out of Brazil. Equally reports are currently estimating the current UK death toll at well over 40k. Of course if that is accurate and their current reporting is accurate (a big "if" I know) it could indicate the UK are rapidly depressing their curve. As always these deaths are going to be reflecting infections from 2, 3, 4 or more weeks ago

It's an Irish professor presenting facts regarding the virus, it's treatment with inexpensive anti malaria medicine.
