Busy year for skateboarding games. Pity they aren't doing TH 3 it's probably my favorite.

This is the one video game nostalgia announcement I've been long waiting for :)

HD was a travesty, but this looks like it's having more effort put into it and Vicarious Visions have done a good job on the Crash remasters.

While I too think THPS3 is the peak of the series, a lot of that was down to the revert basically perfecting the core gameplay. That's being added here. THPS2 probably has the smartest and most iconic level design of the lot - THPS3 has great stuff but also marked the point where things started getting that bit more convoluted. So the combination of the best level design and the best mechanics is a promising prospect.

Barring a disaster, I'll be losing hours to this in September.

Pro Skater 3 was the pinnacle of the series for me, though I do like THPS2 as well. Not that I didn't like the first one, but it didn't date as well.

Any excuse to post this EDIT: There is some bitter irony in the meaning of this song 20 years later.

Yupp! Session, this and a possible Skate 4, after being so thirsty for a skate game for years!

Tony sounded very optimistic at devs VV to handle remastering 3 and 4 as well but i see people actually making those parks in the park creator and sharing them anyway.

Was gas, Tony was adamant on keeping it close to the originals as possible.... except for reverts, they had to be in :) also, they added any tricks and mechanics from 3 and 4 that they felt added quality of life.

Really can't wait for this, i wonder how much they're gonna charge.

It’s 44.99, as per the Epic store.

Lots of info here "many of the original songs return". WHICH ONES!!!

    https://blog.us.playstation.com/2020/05/12/get-ready-to-grind-into-tony-hawks-pro-skater-1-and-2/

Also, out says 40 dollar price tag and 50 for deluxe edition. That's a tasty price. Was fully sure it would be 70 since it is 2 games.

Same as Crash N-Sane, and Spyro. Full remake of three games but was only €40.

Do a THUG 1&2 remake and introduce gaming's greatest villain, Eric fúcking Sparrow, to a new generation.

I know THUG gets a bad rep but i loved it. Loved the story of a guy stealing your footage and you need to prove yourself.

The Jackassification of THPS is one of the saddest downfalls of a great game series. THPS4 was bad, but THUG completely lost the essence of the series in favour of dumb gimmicks.

I should stress I have no problem with Jackass on its own terms, just stay out of THPS :pac:

Saw something in the comments of that video, that THPS 1 & 2 have now been on every console gen since they were released in on the gen 5 PS1. Xbox got them in 2X for Gen 6, and then the HD collection for gen 7, and now on PS4/One for gen 8.

Yep if this is a success would love to see THUG 1 & 2 released afterwards as well.

Some absolute tunes in that. I looked this up yesterday as was gonna trade in ghost of tsushima against it in gamestop and saw they are selling it for 70 when even the psn store is only charging 45. The *****.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,756 ✭✭✭Thecageyone

Fun fact: though I was already into Metal and punk before the original release of these games, it was only after playing them I became a Bad Religion fan! Pity only one of their tracks made it in, their music really suits the skate boarding scene

Think you can pre-order and cancel it and still play the demo.

ffs remember the days when you'd get a demo of this game on a magazine cover and buy it then if you liked it ?

I think on PlayStation, the money goes back into your psn wallet, not your credit card so not worth it for me. Like Enfilade said, i remember the good ol days c when demos were free. Still getting this on launch but Activision would be selling a lot more copies of they key people play a whole 2 minute demo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,221 ✭✭✭✭J. Marston

How the fúck do Playstation get away with that? You should be allowed to cancel an order.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,417 ✭✭✭griffdaddy

It's a weird one alright. 'Here's a demonstration of the game you've already bought anyway'. I'd say it'll trickle out to general release in the coming days. They were giving it out free to the first 2000 people who bought a Tony Hawk burrito in Chipotle in America.

I don't think I knew anything about Tony Hawk or the series until I played the THPS2 demo. I ended up playing most of the series as a result of that demo disk :)

Bienvenue à la cuvette de Marseille

Preorder bonuses are a silly marketing practice as it is, but making a demo a preorder bonus is extra.

The PR is a bit confusingly worded on the subject, but do we know if the game is 60 FPS on base consoles? Torn between PS4 and PC: know PC will run well, but also need a decent couch chill out game and will always associate THPS with a PS controller anyway! My impression is that it runs at 60 across the board (or at least aims to) so that’d be enough to draw me towards PS4 if so.

Absolutely loved that game. Didn't have a notion about the Tony Hawk games or skateboarding in general, but got that game as a Christmas present that year and put serious time into it. Hopefully if this game does well they might do a remaster of 3 too.

Never played 1 or 2 at all, but this seems to be getting good feedback so far and that it just "feels right" compared to loads of Tony Hawks games in recent years, so I'll probably pick it up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,187 ✭✭✭McFly85

I think the demo as a pre order bonus was a nice touch. I, like many people it seems, but countless hours into the original warehouse demo with my friends. I didn’t get the whole game until it was in the platinum range, and obviously they didn’t want to risk people just playing the demo!

On the gameplay itself they’ve done an exceptional job, really nailed the feeling of the old games. I can’t wait for the full release!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,508 ✭✭✭marcbrophy

I'm sorry, but it's not a demo to me, if you have to buy the finished product to play it!

    Should be for everyone!

Very excited for this to come out. Glad they got so much of the original soundtrack too. That's why if they couldn't get the rights to the songs for thps3 and beyond they shouldn't do them because so much of those games is just the sound of them, never mind the gameplay (which is phenomenal too and close to perfect in my eyes with thps3)

It's funny, 4 months ago I couldn't wait for this game... then Session and SkaterXL hit... now I can't even be arsed to try the demo haha. Although THPS1-3 don't do it for me, 4 and onwards are better games.

I was the opposite. I was thinking i was over three arcadey skateboarding games and couldn't go back after skate. Bought Skater XL and now i can't wait for THPS because it made me realise i prefer having fun over having simulation with skating games.

Yupp boring as ****. Great if all you want is a free roam skate game but no goals, no proper challenges, handful of maps, no pedestrians or moving vehicles and no multiplayer. I'm glad i didn't pay 40 quid at least.

Tony hawk's looks to be brimming with content for 40 quid. Should have released the demo to all though and maybe 3 day early access for pre orders, would have made a lot more sense.

I feel the same about the first 3 THPS games, boring and lifeless, once we got the THPS4 and THUG that's when TH became the games I loved. I suppose SkaterXL and Session are aimed at people who love skating and not gamers.

Skater XL definitely feels like a skaters game. I haven't skated in over 20 years. I love it, i love watching it but that game just wasn't for me. Roll on THUG remaster!

THUG (and indeed THPS4) is kinda like season nine of The Simpsons. There’s the general sense of what you liked in the earlier stuff, and fun to be had. But you get the creeping sense that a shark is in the process of being jumped (that would make a good gap in a THPS game actually - they had a bull after all).

THPS4, THUG1/2 and THAW were the pinnacle of gameplay, they just mastered it, most don't like the THUG2 story but the classic mode was class same for THAW, I remember getting my 360 when it came out and playing THAW for weeks, THP8 was my first ever experience with online gaming too. Great memories.

I didn't think there were people that thought the later TH games were better?

For me there's nothing that comes close to those first 3 games. Put me in a carefully crafted arena and give me a time limit to get a score however way I see fit. It's pure unadulterated gameplay. Bliss.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,904 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

I absolutely loved 1-4 but also loved the story in THUG's. For some reason, Marseille level in THPS2 holds a special place in my heart. Must have been because it was a demo, I can't really remember but that level is burned into my brain and at one point, I believed I was the greatest player in the world at that level :pac:

Remembering back, I thought it was in THPS 3 so the fact I'll get to play it again in the remaster has me giddy.
