RIP to those who have died but the new case numbers is very encouraging.. not out of the woods yet but definitely on track to where we want to be ..
Hopefully now the easing of restrictions next week won’t upset the downward trend ...

RIP, the 15 people who died.

At the same time, it's great that the number of deaths are going down

Allowing for delayed reporting over the weekend that’s a very positive number today

New cases still holding at a daily 1% increase for 8 days in a row now, same with NI for 7 days in a row.

New cases down to a very manageable level. I definitely think lockdown phases will be sped up. It would be crazy to actually maintain the August date for phase 5 with this few cases occurring

I know it's been dismissed in past about testing turnaround and contact tracing but think Richard Chambers is right to ask about it. It surely has an influence on whether restrictions are eased or not, even if they don't acknowledge it

Ryanair targeting a July return to widespread flights.

Can I ask where you read that please.

If only there was a vaccine for stupidity.. Will be interesting to see if a vaccine is produced whether the anti-vaccination crowd don't take it up. Think it should be mandatory to be honest.

Wrong figure issued for cases yesterday. Roughly 170.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,922 ✭✭✭GM228

Yesterday's 236 new cases was an error, over reported by about 66 cases.

Dr Holohan seems cautiously optimistic. I'd still wonder whether the new expanded testing criteria has shown up in results but the trends have been positive so far.

Ryanair targeting a July return to widespread flights.

If the EU/EEA/UK agree a common arrivals protocol by then, I think that the creation of an EU wide travel zone is quite likely, with quarantine of people coming to the EU at the point of entry. In which case Ryanair will deal with the distancing logistics, for which I am sure they’ll find a solution

I know that Harris et al have been keen to emphasis no travelling this year, but if the rest of the EU agrees something, I don’t see Ireland sitting it out

I'll admit I was a little concerned after case numbers yesterday. I'm confident now in how we're doing given that it was over-reported.

What in bloody hell are they doing?

That's a massive increase in reported cases

They’ve corrected it within a day. What does it matter?

It does seem strange, even if they corrected it. A few more questions are surely warranted there. Decisions are made by looking at case numbers, you'd want to be 100% certain that they're being reported accurately at all times.

    RTE News
Public health officials are concerned that a high number of people in Ireland believe the worst of the crisis is behind us.

Don't we know? Many people still haven't grasped what the restrictions were designed to do.

How can you trust the process when they got it so badly wrong?

It's not like they added on 5 cases it was almost 39% wrong

Cases are going to be a big part of easing restrictions going forward

A lot of people think that because a surge didn't happen that the whole thing is overblown. The relaxation of restrictions thread is exhibit A.

Human error. Every single person makes mistakes in their job, especially if exhausted. It was corrected. They admitted the mistake, which is good. People are never happy.

To be fair, we didn't experience a major surge like other countries.

It was an error with the automated CIDR reporting system, confirmed as over reported by 55.
To note: the number of reported events today (22,894) minus the number of reported events yesterday (22,671) = 223.

However, due to ongoing validation, 55 events included in yesterday’s NPHET report have been removed from Computerised Infectious Disease Reporting (CIDR). In light of this, “Number of new cases since previous day” = 278.

Numbers still don't add up because 22894 and 22671 does not represent any days numbers, whatever way they are compiling it they still confirm 23135 total cases meaning today's numbers are reduced to take account of yesterday's over reporting meaning today's number is actually 194 (that's the way I read it anyway).

How many different sources do they have information coming from every day? They’re collating a lot of data, and mistakes happen. That’s just life. Did it really inconvenience you? Sure look at the UK...they forgot to count 10,000 deaths for a while.
