Top 5, I'll take it. The song was the first rock song I ever heard and made me into the head banger I am today, it has such a chunky riff, love it and its still a regular on my playlist.

Yeah, musically it is very very good, as I said in the post I didnt even care about the lyrics, I was into it straight from the start, they are good also though and when I got them out and put them alongside to listen, its brilliant.

I think this is quote a common thing with Manson - the band's image, and his persona, give people a certain impression. People think they're just in it for shock, when they are (OK, were) an absolutely brilliant band, I love them. He always seems really sound in interviews too, actually very balanced and articulate. Delighted you liked that (even though it wasn't mine!)

Been a while since I've watched Bowling for Columbine but I remember him being one of the few people featured in it who didn't come across as an absolute fúcking nutjob.

In 10 place and 14 points its
    Sawduck
    Desperado – The Eagles

I like the Eagles, generally like most of their music, and this is probably my Favourite of theirs, “And your losing it all your highs and lows, aint it funny how the feeling goes, away.. Desssperaddoo” yeah its fantastic, a good choice to hear for the first time. Fantastic singers

If you've never heard the lesser known doolin dalton-Desperado reprise, please check it out.. One of their very best!

I've been a huge fan of disturbed since I was a teen and their believe album became popular. They've another beautifully soft song called darkness worth a listen.

I still remember the first time I heard sound of silence. I damn near cried. It gave me shivers and goosebumps and Spidey senses all at once.

Glad you liked it! Although how could you not :)

I'm just blown away with sKeith's choice...he's never let me see that side of him :(

Delighted to see both Bruce Hornsby and Don Henley make it into this round, any fans might want to check out their collaboration on a song called 'End of the Innocence'. I can't link it here because the studio version isn't on Youtube (Henley is worse than Prince and Lars Ulrich for that) but it's on Spotify. In fact, the full album 'End of the Innocence' is arguably Henley's best.

Great hosting from Trigger, love his Pearl Jam link in the OP too. However...'Like a Stone' down near the bottom of the rankings? I wasn't prepared for that triggering.

Meh. It got 6 points, that's hardly last :D as I said, I had difficulty listening to it, tbh in a couple of months time that could be up the top for me, it's just where I am at the mo.

Baba Yetu in the bottom 5 :(. My current feelings about this reveal.

    KvN7HCCETdSovJKUwdBv52-bp_i3OLsDH2pgpBjgoSlovLUoNmeOxw6Lt0sTDX1KdwfzT4sglxCxC8EXPYJkCPz4f46AzvvSYSaK0OXQdv8KuWnJ7mMVh8xbymzyCzL8FAdOu7QrWKmUc2fu7skUDoevtO92208LhDKgnCb8

I jest though, it was a somewhat out there choice.

Here Trig, 9 points is Not Enough, so start over and bump me up the list a bit... ;)

Just kidding, in any other Walrus 9 points would have you up top of the table, with 23 players though, this is gonna be a weird one. Fair f**ks for taking on 115 songs

This was the toughest category for me in any Walrus, as I breathe music, so struggled to imagine not being able to listen to it. Think I just went with Our Lady Peace as I remember discovering them as a teen and just listening to their entire discography non-stop for about three months straight. Only went with Not Enough as its the first song of theirs I heard, but they do have better stuff

Absolutely cracking song - Big fan of it.

Happy with 3rd place - when I opened the reveal and saw a Pearl Jam song I hoped I would do well!

No shame in coming behind sound of silence though. Couldn't believe how good that cover was when I heard it first.

If you want other lighter Disturbed stuff they have a song Hold on to Memories - it's no where near the quality of Sound of Silence but not like some of their heavier stuff. I also like their cover of Land of Confusion too

How dare you take my podium spot :( Me here organising the open-top bus parade, a slot on the Late Late Show, a brand ambassador role with Galtee cheese...and you just swoon in here willy nilly and try to Russian me out of the medal places.

    :D

Seriously though, it was a pleasant coincidence, the songs which finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th in this round are all very special to me.

In Last place with 1 point is
    FixXxer
with Tom Waits - Misery is the river of the world

Some nice lyrics and can see why you selected it, just couldn’t place it higher than the others that were selected.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,554 ✭✭✭✭Trigger

In 22nd place with 2 points is
    Hello 2D person below
with Luke Kelly - The Town I Loved So Well

Don’t get me wrong here, I love this song and the story it tells, I have just heard this so much (Father in law plays The Dubliners/Luke Kelly all the time) and its come to an oh god not again point. I just don’t enjoy listening to it as much anymore.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,554 ✭✭✭✭Trigger

Yay Necro! You're not in the bottom 2! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,554 ✭✭✭✭Trigger

In 21st place with 3 points is
    Osh
with Nick Drake - Cello Song

Not really a fan of the singers voice, its lovely though, probably not strong enough here for me though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,554 ✭✭✭✭Trigger

In 20th place with 4 points is
    Rikand
    with Manic Street Preachers – 4st 7lbs

Can be hard for me to make out the lyrics at times, probably doesn’t deserve to be placed so low but I’ve just liked others more.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,134 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

    That's a great Manics album :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,554 ✭✭✭✭Trigger

In 19th place with 5 points is
    Irish Aris
with The Escape Club-I'll Be There

Proper old school song, I remember this from before I went deaf. Lovely lyrics, again like most down the end I just prefered others to it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,554 ✭✭✭✭Trigger

One thing i will say here, there was no song that i disliked in this round, i really enjoyed listening to them all. Trying to place these was 10 times harder than the first round, and no song really deserved a low amount of points, i was tempted to give points from 10 - 33 in this round but decided against it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,554 ✭✭✭✭Trigger

In 18th place with 6 points is
    Gru
with Jeff Buckely - Last Goodbye

I’ve heard this before, it has come up along with Hallelujah on random playlists I listen to on spotify, that probably brought it down a bit in the scoring. It’s a lovely choice, I mean, who hasn’t suffered a gut wrenching break up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,554 ✭✭✭✭Trigger

In 17th place with 7 points is
    PhatKev
with Damien Dempsey - Chris and Stevie

I don’t like Damien Dempsey being honest, this song is a bit mad but absolutely heartbreaking also, and its pretty much him putting his emotions into a song, with lyrics that hit very close to home for me, so that has bumped it up the list a bit.

In 16th place with 8 points is
    Barney92
    with Johnny Cash - Hurt

My first thought on seeing this on the playlist was “oh not Johnny Cash again”, I don’t like him, but this song is beautiful so has popped it up the table a bit

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,554 ✭✭✭✭Trigger

In 15th place with 9 points is
    sKeith
    with Jim Reeves - Bimbo

Never heard this before so when it first came on I was like WTF is this, but by the end of the song I was singing away to it. It really grew on me and a lovely story inside it. Just not strong enough to place it higher up the table. I love it though! Thanks for this one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,554 ✭✭✭✭Trigger

In 14th place with 10 points is
    Deleted User
    with Beck – Lost Cause

I didn’t like this the first time I listened to it, but after a few more listens, I grew on me, a lot, after the first listen this was in the bottom 2. I do like it now though and wouldn’t turn it off if it came on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,554 ✭✭✭✭Trigger

gonna make a cuppa, and will see when i come back. I might just keep going as i have a bit of time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,554 ✭✭✭✭Trigger

Right, we are back.. i'll keep going as i have the young fella chillaxed!

In 13th place with 11 points is
    Necro
    with Heart – Alone

Beautiful song choice, I really like it, it would have scored much higher only for the songs it was up against. Probably the only song here that I felt bad in giving such few points to

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,554 ✭✭✭✭Trigger

In 12th place with 12 points is
    ShaneU
with Simon & Garfunkel - Bridge over troubled water

A rather safe choice, great song, I don’t dislike S&G as such but sometimes their voices just don’t work for me so that brought it down a bit, its depends on the day really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,554 ✭✭✭✭Trigger

In 11th place with 13 points is
    Sawduck
with Lou Reed - Perfect day

I love this song, it’s one of those that I knew well but havent heard with the implant before this, so listening with a new appreciation. This could easily have been chosen for the first round and I think it would have placed a bit higher in that one, its just up against some lovely tracks here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,554 ✭✭✭✭Trigger

    Right.. Onto the top 10!

In 10th place with 14 points is
    Three more big sleeps
with Joshua Kadison - "Begging For Grace (Dragonfly Wings)"

I had a provisional list made after the first couple of listens on spotify and this was in last place because I hadnt listened to it as its not on spotify, when I got the chance to listen on youtube, it shot up the table, it’s beautifully written and I really like the singers voice.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,554 ✭✭✭✭Trigger

In 9th place with 15 points is
    Beakerjoe
with John Legend - All of me

It’s a lovely song, really enjoyed it the first time and was higher up after the first listen. Never really listened to John Legend before so this was a new one for me and I really did enjoy his voice so will have a look at a few others of his

10 ten for two weeks running!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,554 ✭✭✭✭Trigger

The Top 8, these were really apart from the rest for me, only one has stayed in the same place over the last week and that is No.1, I've listened and listened and listened again(to all tracks) and this is the final positions, i have no doubt if i listened again the rankings would change again. Love all of these.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,554 ✭✭✭✭Trigger

In 8th place with 16 points is
    Baggly
with Snow Patrol - New York

Ive only ever listened to Chasing Cars from Snow Patrol, which I absolutely love. And this one is up there with it. The lyrics are great and again its one that I have emphasised with. Solid choice

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,554 ✭✭✭✭Trigger

In 7th place with 17 points is
    G&R
with LCD Soundsystems - All my friends

Submitter mentioned in his PM to me that he tried to tailor his selections to what I like from the first sign up post, he did not disappoint with this one, this is exactly the type of music I like. That piano beat is amazing, Lyrically fantastic, I was disappointed that it is only in 7th but I think it is the right decision

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,554 ✭✭✭✭Trigger

In 6th place with 18 points is
    LeVar
with Linkin Park fear. Kiiara - Heavy

When I first seen it I thought to myself that this isnt going to go well, but god I love this so much! It really is a beautiful piece, and I can emphasise with the lyrics, brilliant choice.

    Tusk
    with Evanescence - my immortal

The only song here that features on my everyday playlist. I adore everything about this. Nothing else left to say! Its amazing. Might have been a place or 2 higher if it was my first time hearing it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,882 ✭✭✭tusk

    2.The lyrical beast
I'm a big fan of Lyrics that have meanings in songs, so I want you to give me a song that has given you an emotion through the words. This could be anger, joy, sadness or dispair, anything really.
    :pac:

with Elton John – Indian Sunset

Enter Cheat code here. A proper Lyrical Beast, It really is an amazing song, ive never heard it before, well at least I cant remember hearing it before I went deaf. The story it tells is amazing, really highlights the plight around the American Indians. Throwing that together with Elton Johns voice. Yeah its fantastic. Love it and would be one I could listen to again and again
