And back to where we were 3 weeks ago a fortnight after that.

Stats from other countries dont seem to show that to be fair. The lifting of restriction is very light. Not much will change in 2 weeks or even a month. We wont be back to where we were. Even if we were the health service could cope.

So the 65-69 year olds are the worst hit for deaths - not what I expected

    No, the worst was 85+.

Finally a good question by Zara King. There's no way the schools/colleges can re-open in August if the LC couldn't go ahead in late July/early August.

    Dr. Neil Ferguson's greatest hits:

    Foot and mouth
    BSE/CJD
    Bird Flu
    Swine Flu
    Covid-19

This will be his swansong presumably? Or is he already in the beginning stages of models showing that a unique strain of influenza will kill 65 million people next year? I love a good scare.

Not true. Hasn’t been the case really in neighbouring European countries

    When's our next one?

Royal Mail painted a handful of post boxes blue the other day to show support for the NHS, kind of an empty gesture, how about doing something more concrete that NHS staff might actually benefit from?

31 of unknown age is a bit mad! Maybe homeless people or people with no next of kin/records?

Are there tests still being done in Germany?
And if so, are the results from them included in the current figures now?
Apologies if this has been asked and answered already

I'd say not necessarily. Think decision had to be made for students studying for the LC sooner rather than later in their interest. There will still be a few months to monitor how virus is between now and September.

If the schools can reopen in August the leaving cert can go ahead.

Slovakia implemented a strict 14-day quarantine:

The IATA has an up to date list on all countries travel restrictions. A lot of countries have mandatory quarantine.

I guess at this juncture they decided it wasn't possible to hold LC. Does not necessarily mean by July or August, whenever decision is made that schools won't reopen.

its far better to look 5 and 7 day averages which are consistently on the downward.

Or people in direct provision, perhaps? Or, more simply, by that time they had been notified on the deaths, but hadn't received any further information about them.

They're really trying to stick the leaving cert decision on Holohan aren't they?

If the schools can reopen in August the leaving cert can go ahead.

If they can. If they can't, there'd be even more stick that they didn't act sooner/students studying all summer to be told last minute the LC is off.

If they can open in August, what, have the LC in August, results in October and college admissions November/December? Missing a semester?

Either way, there'd be criticism from somewhere regardless of the decision made. There just is no decent option and one has to be picked. So they went with this one.

It’s awful rubbish and not very Irish- I think we are a bit more honest and not into this kind of crap. Not in our culture. We can pay medical staff the respect they need in other ways. Let’s hope no one suffers pay cuts or tax hikes in the next budget.

    27 new deaths RIP

    156 new cases.

Why such low number in cases when we just broadened the criteria during the week?
