I see the UK are still carrying on this patronizing clapping for front-line workers....

    When's our next one?
I hope never, it is extremely patronising, my OH agrees and she is a care worker.

I’m not sure what’s acceptable level of risk for some of these activities. Some Businesses will be in trouble even after lifting restrictions unless they reimagine themselves in a pre vaccine world.

Why are you still posting tweets from that fraudster?

Cause it’s a free country bro. Nah seriously it’s because I never thought about some of the business that might be in trouble despite crying out for restrictions to be lifted. I won’t be going to the pub for a very long time.

Well spaced Picnic benches in a field with a bbq now I might consider though.

Spain does it everyday at 8pm but since over 14s allowed out between 8pm and 11pm not so many doing it now.

Yeah government would be better off paying them more. Both here and in UK. And people clapping need to remind TDs of that. Otherwise it's an empty gesture.

That is kind of a poor graphic, as the ordering is wrong. The ordering should be based on proportion who would v proportion who wouldn't. The order is upset by proportion shouldn't have done this before virus, which is second order statistic.

A lot of people here seem to be misunderstanding what is going to happen when we ease the lockdown, potentially by August 11th. Things aren't going to go back to normal when we ease the lockdown. Social distancing is here to stay for the next year or so.

I think everyone understands that. Chances are though social distancing will probably fade away. Its human nature if there isn't any further waves that it wont be adhered to.

While they will recommend distancing not a hope people will keep to it .. this week you would swear they had announced the virus had suddenly disappeared.
In the town nearest me it’s back to normal even some of the shop that are open seem to have relaxed on numbers and enforcement of social distancing .
Today was the first day since lock down started that I was actually in traffic.

New cases relatively low, although we've had false dawns before. Long may this current trend continue.

I think people are slipping already. Be such a waste if people threw all the hard work way by taking the piss over the next few weeks.

This is bizarre, I knew they did swine flu all wrong, but wow. Damn.

    "
Michael Thrusfield, a professor of veterinary epidemiology at Edinburgh University, told the paper he had "déjà vu" after reading the Imperial paper, saying Ferguson was responsible for excessive animal culling during the 2001 Foot and Mouth outbreak.

Ferguson warned the government that 150,000 people could die. Six million animals were slaughtered as a precaution, costing the country billions in farming revenue. In the end, 200 people died.

Similarly, he was accused of creating panic by overestimating the potential death toll during the 2005 Bird Flu outbreak. Ferguson estimated 200 million could die. The real number was in the low hundreds.

"I much prefer to be accused of overreacting than under-reacting," Ferguson said in February. On April 16, he told an IMF meeting,"We don't have a crystal ball."

Last bit is brilliant. Can see Tony saying something similar.

So if the ICU numbers are continuing to drop can we assume that the majority of deaths announced this week have been where people died in care homes??

109 of the cases in long term residential homes.

Hear hear. Despite the HSE it’s down to the hard work and sacrifices of the Irish public. Good to see the new cases creep downward. Less cases= less transmission risk to new people

My partner is a nurse and sometimes we like to make her cringe by clapping at the door when she's heading off to work.

I hear this constantly. In what way? Huge numbers of businesses are still closed. I’m seeing lots of people outdoors exercising- it doesn’t mean they’re actively risking transmission

So the 65-69 year olds are the worst hit for deaths - not what I expected

    Must have misheard him

    Sure are

We had 1000 cases at our peak.

Nursing home testing will be completed soon, take them out of it could be 50 cases a day at current pace
