RfLol. That's brilliant. Where did you find that factoid? The back of a cornflakes packet? :D

And no I never mentioned that there was a corona virus vaccine btw.

But more importantly its certainly not up to me or anyone else to provide "peer reviewed scientific research" for any of your daft claims btw

    You are very pessimistic.

And you offer 0 solutions. I dont know what else to tell you, apart from the fact that you dont have a single peer reviewed scientific published research to back up your pessimism.

Look at the amount of fitness enthusiasts that emerged when told to stay in at the start of this. We must be the slimmest and fittest nation in Europe!

I live in England and I have been doing a lot of running for many years. There is a 2000 acre park near me where I do most of my runs.

You would not believe the shear amount of new cyclists that have emerged. Large Asian families (with 6-7 persons) have just appeared out of nowhere taking a sudden interest in nature.

The only people that are really at risk from Covid 19 are the over 65's. We should be cocooning the hell out of those people. Instead we feel bad for them so encourage them to come out and walk at peak hours. (Lunch time) Terrible advice considering over 90% of deaths in that catergory.

Meanwhile, the countries economy falls apart while everyone at very low risk sits at home.

We've made a right mess of this and its no wonder other countries are laughing at us.

    My sentiments EXACTLY!!!

We should be changing our approach based on 8 weeks of data...

Instead - we are prolonging the pain.

    Idiotic

Heading to a park in a little while, will be interesting to see is it just mostly over 70s there during the stipulated times.

Yet you think the government are trying to restrict the amount of Vit D that people can have? Who is pessimistic?

absolutely , the over 65,s should be cocooned indefinately , structured recreation within strict parameters can be arranged until we are over this

there will be a new normal for vulnerable demographics , it doesnt matter if the government chicken out for a few months more ,eventually things will be forced to reopen but many will still be vulnerable and they must take responsibility for themselves

Even before all of this, it has never ceased to amaze me how violently some people react to any official request to show consideration for others.

It's like some people wish to reserve the right to be a dick, and any request to pause their dickishness for a brief period of time is a personal assault.

I am disabled with a muscle genetic disorder and the park beside my home is the only place I go for a walk, but parks are for everybody and nobody can be stopped to go to the park at any time.

Not sure it should be banned outright but I sure will not be getting on a flight for the foreseeable future.

would not cost me a thought getting on a flight today , ive two kids under four and a fiance , we would happily take a holiday if there was anywhere to go to which wasnt locked down

Everyone is aware of what the article says. Consider is used as it is legally unenforceable but the essence of it is that they're telling people under 70 not to go to parks at certain times.

now in italy police are sedating people that are against this crazy rules!

I know, all those countries laughing at us - no one is laughing at us, and even if they were it says more about them than us. People talk like we are the only country left with restrictions, the only country instigating a phased opening, the only country that will have a large unemployment spike...newsflash - most countries are experiencing the same as we are and the only difference is the order of whats is being opened.

Sorry sorry sorry sorry, Leo's plan is saying its fine for people who cocoon to go out and get a bit of exercise/sun while maintaining social distancing.

County council takes that then and allocates park times to over 70s only.

Now we can't go to the park for 2 or 3 hours a day.

    Who initiated this?

I am not saying that you wont get your vitamin D, you get good bit of it if exposed to sun for 15 mins or more.

Just to get it straight, if there is a deadly disease out there which kills 90% + of over 70s, I do not believe that we should allow over 70s to walk on the streets or in parks. You can not expect compliance of strict measures from young millions of people of the population, people have house parties for crying out. Surely you agree?

The parks thing is something dreamt up by the council I wouldn't worry about it. Nothing is being enforced anyway, although I haven't tried to drive anywhere so can't comment on that. Groups of people of all types are meeting up in parks and at seafront near me and Garda just drive past.
Really the only lockdown in place now seems to be some businesses not being allowed to open.

Even cocooning itself is not legally enforceable

They'll probably be very little options in terms of a holiday from now until the end of summer.

Lol. You making daft claims about"herd immunity" does not equate with 'solutions' '. Pointing that out is not 'pessimism'. It's simply reality.

I sincerely hope the Gov is not as foolhardy enough to wait until it is 100% gone before 'opening up'.

It is not going to disappear any time soon and vaccines take around 18mts to perfect at the best of times (accordingly my microbiologist scientist buddy who works with a large pharmaceutical company).

I suppose if every other country does open up then Ireland's hand will be forced.

I dunno. I'd say that there will be some very cheap holidays to be had in July or August at the rate other countries are opening up.

Are you being deliberatly obtuse or just posting for the crack?

You do know that not all care homes cater for the elderly yeah? That many of those over 70 live also live in their own homes yeah? Trouble seems to be you only read the bits you want ...

Not being obtuse at all, I will remind you of what you said exactly, regarding deaths.

the issue of Covid-19 is not only with the over 70s and those in care homes. Only half the current deaths can be attributed to this cohort.

You are saying that only half the deaths are from these categories.

    Simply untrue.

This is very worrying, because most cases that have severe covid19 infections all have vitamin D deficiency. Getting to that stage where government is dictating who gets vitamin D and who does not?

Does any other country do this nonsense? thats what i wonder. I havent heard of any country having 2km 5km 20km craziness, now you can go to a park and I cant because i am not a certain age? NPHET has lost the plot

Three cars were destroyed and 70K worth of damage done to a separate property in Gorey over the weekend, by a fella who was temporarily released from prison due to fears of Covid-19 spreading in the prison system.

Yet, they don't seem to have taken any measures to protect the elderly in residential care settings. It's a national scandal.

I disagree. I think over 70s should get some fresh air and exercise where possible.

Sounds like he wants to return to prison. No pubs no hookers no sport. What's the point.

I think the park idea and times for shopping for different groups is ridiculous,i think the whole thing is if i am honest, but its not killing 90% of any demographic but even if it was we have no right to force any age group to Cocoon.

Its their choice as it should be everyones choice,we all know the age and health status of our families at home and its each family to make their own decisions and protect themselves accordingly.

Likewise I'll get on a flight and go somewhere if its open.
Wouldn't bother me in the slightest. I'd rather live my life than waste it living in fear
