We were told May 5th (3 long weeks ago) was our Holy Grail.

No, we were not told that. It was never anything other than a routine review.

Some posters here were acting like it was.

    It never was.

At the end of the day the correct decision has been made for now to be very careful in moving forward.

The last thing anyone wants is another full lock down having to be reimposed. This is the best way of achieving that.

So basically 10th August we'll hopefully be back to some sort of normality, large gatherings at sporting events etc allowed subject to whatever the government numbers are on gatherings, back to the office , pubs open etc so I take it that means we can travel abroad depending on whatever country your going to

He said that there was a time limit on how long the current high level of garda monitoring could continue.

"We can't keep going at this operational tempo, which began around the 16th of March, indefinitely, or indeed, for very much longer," he said.

If they care about citizens they would close the borders back in January. Any Irish returning to the State - two weeks quarantine. Any non-national, sorry, stay where you are.

Most EU countries closed their borders in around the same time so you can't blame the government on this point.

Can you show any peer reviewed studies on any thesis relating to this Virus?
Has any study had time to be peer reviewed?

We can only go from what we have.

...but he didn't say that. It wouldn't bother me in the slightest if he'd said, "Sorry, I can't get you the peer reviewed scientific paper that you requested but here's a valid one." What he actually said was, "Here's one I've posted a million times before that you can ignore again." Can you see the difference?

Maybe constantly shifting goal posts to help save lives ? Or maybe it's just to piss us all off?

"Stage 5" looks like a bucket to throw stuff into which are never going to be opened before a vaccine. I wouldn't hold my breath we'll meet that date.

Travellers have been able to go to funerals , have 21STs , set up camps , have group fights ... why should they be exempt from the lockdown ??

Can someone explain to me why I can buy, stationery in Dealz but my stationers has to remain closed, plants in Supervalu but my Garden Centre has to remain closed; music in Aldi but my musical shop has to remain closed, flowers in Tesco but my florist has to remain closed etc etc. Also why don't the smaller specialist shops campaign for earlier reopening.

It's because all those that are open are also selling food. I understand what you are saying though.

Well the things in stage 5 aren't going to wait for a vaccine that may not come.

We have no idea what will happen between now and August. Will people cooperate? Will the disease be contained?

Perhaps, but if you've no customers you've no business. And if people are scared of getting a virus, they won't be a customer - even if you're open.

Shops opened in Germany this week and they're about 25 to 40% of normal business.

We're stuck until we can convince people it is safe from a health point of view.

Some of these EU countries have 200k cases and 20k deaths..

We are on the island. The natural barrier to any infection. Easy to monitor borders. the only problem is NI border, but I believe it would be much easier and cheaper to monitor NI border than the whole county national roads. OR could made an agreement with UK that they close the borders with NI.

So if the numbers aren't right we should just move on anyway?

The lives have been saved, the curve flattened, the PPE brought in, the staff trained up, the social distancing habits formed, the extra beds and step down facilities put in place.

So with that in mind, I won't be waiting until mid July to see the other half, it's been 7 weeks since I've seen them and held them, I've given my compliance, they've had their time, the deaths are down and community spread surpressed.

I shall be seeing them come Tuesday, I don't accept the further moved goalposts from the original Easter Sunday goal to this Tuesday and now to July, I've a right to see my spouse and I shall see them, I'd like to see a judge try and enforce these laws from stopping me seeing them.

The only real difference between our lockdown and Italy is we are allowed exercise close to home with members of our own family

Copy and paste everything else tbh.

As you said apart from the evident differences of exercise restrictions, theres also the banning of funeral services there. Then there is the requirement for a certificate for anyone leaving their residence for any reason - with those who lie on that document facing a jail term of up to three months or a fine.

Oh that and anyone who has been quarantined after testing positive for Covid-19 and “intentionally violating” the order to stay in their home - facing a prison sentence between one to five years.

Yeah as you said pretty much copy and paste here

Sure let's just make an agreement with the UK that they close their border with NI. How hard can that be?

I know myself I will be a bit cautious for a long while about going out and about to shops and all that.

Don't want to bring this virus home.

I really don't know what is best now, but I suppose you go with your instinct and try protect your family.

I think I may have skimmed through the roadmap too quickly to fully understand...but when can I actually go to my partners/friends/parents houses and give them a hug? Without social distancing

We're not enforcing these laws because we hope people will have the maturity to realise that:
    1) The laws are there to try and protect us
    2) If everyone did whatever they wanted, none of us would be protected

Well it's up to each business to decide if they want to reopen when they're told. Now is the time for them to have the discussions with government etc.

Personally I'll be out and hopefully back to 90% normality in August, not going to hide in fear. I'll live my life and go back to whatever activities when they're allowed in each phase.
