There's been a million individual tasks and difficult decisions required over the past few months, and you're including "Photo ops" in your criticism? People seem pretty happy to know that their Taoiseach and Health Minister are taking an interest in what is going on, unlike say the UK.

    This endless negativity is wearing.

This government's response regarding care homes is criminal. They had all the time in the world but did nothing, they even counter signalled arguments to seal them off. That's whats fu*kng "wearing".

I think they'll start opening up employments soon using a phased approach/timeline using specified groups of workers.
They will start with outdoor construction workers and then add another grouping 3 weeks later.

Apologies if this has already been posted, looked at the last number of pages but didn't see it.

The census of long term residential homes was published on gov.ie today.

Our first recorded case was in Cork (CUH) 29th February, but this census has one confirmed COVID-19 death in the week up to 13-17th February, and two probable COVID-19 deaths between 24 Feb - 1 Mar.

So is this saying that there were more COVID-10 cases than we knew at that time, and we had it before the 29th Feb?

You will have to explain this one to me, as I don't see it.

Both countries have a strong pub, restaurant and café culture. We both like our sporting events, their Aussie rules is similar to our GAA in terms of importance. They are fanatical about sports, as are we, and much the same sports. It will be interesting to see if they reopen mass public events.

They like going to the beach on a warm say, so do we. They are known for their sociable behaviour such as neighbourhood bbqs.

Most of their cities are like Western European cities.

The only really difference I see is the Aussies take border security very very seriously. Whereas we don't.

They also took testing seriously, they ran a hugely successful Cervical HPV screening program over the last 3 years testing every prevalent lady in the country. You might remember that cervical testing is not exactly Ireland’s strong point.

Any how once Covid popped its head up they used their high throughput HPV analysers to run SARS-Cov2, they were doing 90,000 per week but had capacity to do 300,000 per week if pushed. Also they have a reserve of 10million tests just in case.

The other thing they did was close off flights from China early on, Australia had its first case on 25th January so they managed it well considering they didn’t close schools and shops and only went to a L3 lockdown. They exiting out of that in 3 weeks

Some virus guy was on the other night ref vaccines and said if it's standard dose of say 5ml they should be ok for vaccinating a good portion of population but if the vaccine requires lot more per shot then its going to cause serious issues and it will be a case of who can afford to get it and not who really needs it.

It will take some speech to undo the horror show the Irish media have been animating over the past months.
The economy is going to open and open fast!

He should just be honest he listened to unelected overpaid so called medical experts.

Giving that he is unelected and his party as been utterly rejected by the country we all know he is just a snake oil salesman anyway.

At least Trump was elected to his office unlike Leo who can not just do what he was clearly told by the Irish voting pubic jog on Leo.

The CMO saying on Mar 11th (or thereabouts) restricting visits to Nursing homes was unnecessary?
The clusterf*ck that is the whole testing/results debacle?
    PPE??
Veradker and Harris (maskless) travelling around the place enjoying photo-ops?
    Direct Provision?!?!

I agree. Though we as citizens cannot do anything about that, we cannot influence it. Have we been let down ? for sure in all the above regards. So as citizens in the meantime let’s fûcking do OUR bit right so WE are not adding to the clusterfûck. Political people and medical people dropping the ball, doesn’t give the rest of us a hall pass to do the same.

I can only be responsible for me and in turn influence only those around me, which I am doing, family and friends and indeed my own behaviors.

You think the media have been orchestrating a narrative that would destabilise their primary source of income (advertising) jeopardising all of their jobs? :pac:

At least we have some comedians in here to keep the mood light!

I'm not sure anymore which rules apply and which do not. There's an impromptu birthday party in my neighbourhood. Relatives of one of my neighbours were just going to pop by and wave from their car to wish one of the kids happy birthday. After a while encouraged by the shouts of "oh gwan now, you can stay a while" they left the car and there's a lovely gaggle of people outside definitely not keeping a distance some of them also popping inside the house now for a cuppa. What part of Skype or Zoom call don't people get?!

Oh well, I guess anything goes now. After all, we've flattened the curve, right? And as long as everyone stays outdoors, it's ok?

Looks like the entire rulebook was just thrown out. Now they've got old folks there too celebrating the birthday. After aunts and uncles left the grandparents arrived blocking people's driveway. Everyone happily indoors congregating. I've always known they were selfish #@*% but this confirms it.

The team at Oxfoord say they can produce 1 million doses of vaccine per month should it be successful. That would take 5 years just to cover the UK and Ireland

They have since teamed up with AstraZeneca. They would have much more capacity to scale.

Im thinking now that if I get to see my neighbors exhibiting similar behaviors do I sit of my hands or fûcking lift the phone. This lock down be fûck all fun and having to potentially die or become seriously ill not to mention piss broke as a result of the curve exploding again isn’t in anyone’s interest. So all you needy huggers and ‘need to see X personers ’ kindly try and do the impossible , by sitting and watching your television.

Hopefully Varadker stops with the cringy quotes.

Nothing against him but he tries far too hard at these briefings.

Following on from "Not all superheroes wear capes - some wear scrubs and gowns."

He could stick with the theme and try to encourage mask wearing with something like........

"Most superheroes wear masks- now you should too."

LOL. The reason the health service didn't crash with a influx of sick people like Italy, Spain, the UK and America is because of the actions taken to slow down the spread of the virus.

Masked crusaders! Wear one all the time, fight the Covid climb!

I don't know if I have it in me to listen to another cringey speech. I'm not even particularly critical of Leo's overall handling of things, but the speeches I find painful.

221 is a fierce low number. Did they say how many tests?
