I reported this by email to Gardaí (perhaps I am overreacting, what do people think?). No response, and notice is still up on facebook. I'm not a busybody look out the window type, but organising a gathering like this is 2 fingers to people trying to abide by the restrictions.

Around 10,000 people die each year from cardiac issues that's not including cancers etc.

In the south there’s virtually zero community cases in the last few days. Only 1 new case in Cork between yesterday and the day before. It’s Leinster is the issue.

It is actually Ulster that is the issue now

Did he just say about 200 of today's cases are in the general public or did I hear that wrong?

He said that. It's community transmissions and he said they can't trace it to a confirmed case or a cluster. It's high especially considering the restrictions and the social distancing measures in place.

To be honest we're doing ok. Best case scenario is we get new cases down to 100 ISH a day and keep deaths below 20. That's as good as it's going to get until we have an effective anti viral treatment and further down the road a vaccine. It's not going to disappear completely no matter how we lock down. People expecting that are not being realistic.

They are currently averaging about 300 cases a day from limited testing of the population. If they were to extend it to the community or even to loosen symptom criteria this number will go up. And when they increase it to 100,000 tests a week it will definitely go up. The chances of us seeing 100 cases or less in a day are a long long way off. So Vardkar using a criteria such as less than 100 cases or less a day would be foolish by him.

We will have to adapt and live with this virus while also having a functioning economy. So mask wearing, etc will be part of that.

Staying at home on €350 a week is very appealing to a lot of people. A break on mortgages, loans. A daily stroll to the shop. Stop the handy Welfare and people wont be long wanting to get back to work.

What about people like me who won't be back in work until the summer at least (airport worker) who will struggle without the €350?

    They’re literally always late.

Women: "I'll be ready in 5 minutes" = Men: "I'll leave the pub in 5 minutes" = "The press conference is in 5 minutes".

My brother and my cousins husband were both very sick with it but didn’t go to hospital. The truth is we don’t know what % would actually need to be hospitalised.
The very sick and very old who get it don’t need to be hospitalised unless there’s a very good chance that they’ll recover.
People don’t want to hear that but it’s true.
They need to be allowed to die in comfort and dignity in familiar surroundings.

Again, these posts of yours convince me that you have absolutely no idea, not even an inkling.

I've said numerous times what I think about the whole policy of not admitting elderly people to hospital/ICU - I'll only add that you don't know who can or can't make it (and how) unless you try and you see it from the other side. Lots of people are being written off needlessly.

Besides that, it's not only the "WHEN" we die that matters, it's also and especially the "HOW" we die that matters. If you've never seen the inside of an ICU, if you've never seen anyone fighting for their life in any context, if you've never seen anyone dying suffocating, gasping for air, struggling with their whole body and soul to try and take the next breath and when they manage it nothing goes in, if you've never seen how much they suffer, in how much pain they are, how frightened they are, then thank your God and consider yourself privileged. Do everyone a favour and don't wish that death on anyone and don't dismiss it with a "so what", either - it could also be your turn, one day, so think about how you'd like people to behave towards you, if and when you get in that situation.

You sound either completely callous or completely clueless or both.

Hehe, no offence branie2, but after sonofenoch said the above I looked and you do have a lot of RIP posts, the other post I noticed was "looking forward to the next thread" :pac:

Maybe I should have, it would be interesting to read the next thread

    You are though.

On what basis do you claim its a gathering? Maybe people go in one at a time and pick a book, did you think of that?

Wasting police time is an offence too. Stop giving succour to our invisible enemies (the microbes I mean, not the voices in your head)

I think it's a bit harsh calling people out for saying RIP to those who have died. We are fully entitled to offer our condolences.
However, I think 'RIP to the 31' is like firing out a mass text, or burying them in a mass grave. If you really want to do it, do it with respect, and offer your condolences to each of the 31 in turn.

    So, just to clarify:

    1) You're ok with them not abiding by the restrictions
    2) You think I'm wasting time by notifying the Gardaí that restrictions are being broken after the Gardaí publicly stated they wanted to be noted of same?

    Got it?

    NOTES: -
    * Daily increase numbers on these dates represent both new cases and older cases reported from Germany which results in skewed daily % increases and average case reporting % changes, numbers are broken down as:-

** "Recovered" rates are not reported by the Department of Health in the above link, these figures are taken from the Worldmeters and Johns Hopkins websites which use data supplied by the DoT to the ECDC under the WHO Guidelines for reporting.

Recovered statistics are only be published as "recovered" following two successful tests of being clear of the virus under the WHO reporting guidelines, as a result it is likely the recovered data is skewed. Updated on 15/04/20 - The WHO reporting criteria has been changed recently to eliminate the 2 test requirement before reporting as recovered, now an outcome report is sent within one month of initial notification or when an outcome is known, the available health outcomes are either “recovered/healthy”, “not recovered", “death", “unknown" or “other", weather this helps create more accurate recovery numbers or skews them further is yet to be seen.

*** Due to the above issue with reporting of recovered cases the number of active cases is also likely skewed.

**** From 24/04/20 probable deaths are included in the official death figures, this is to comply with the WHO definition of COVID-19 deaths issued on the 16th and adopted in Europe by the ECDC yesterday, this is in compliance with what is known as the International Statistical Classification of Diseases known as the ICD-10, as a result a new column has been added into the charts to separate confirmed and suspected COVID-19 deaths – see this post for an explanation on this change. As a result of this change in reporting the CFR is skewed as a corresponding number of cumulative case numbers is not currently part of the official records.

Don't believe the scare stories you hear that we won't have a vaccine. This thing is not mutating in any significant way, phase 1 trials are going well and animal studies are showing good responses.

I dont necessarily believe the stories but its ridiculous to promise a vaccine to 100 million people when it is does not exist and nothing not a single thing is known about how it affects certain demographics, what it will cost the government, how it will be distributed, where it will be produced etc a massive number of completely unknown(and impossible to know at this stage) factors

Really because you were saying that old people not being admitted to hospital was due to communism not so long ago

And that is just one of your posts on the subject, you really just like being a wum I reckon.

Christ! You really have no idea how this thing affects people. I'm glad your relatives were ok but they were lucky. Spare some thought for the minority who will die or suffer serious illness from this. You may say it's being realistic but it's selfish and lacky basic humanity. My sister in law only recovered because there was room in ICU for her. Had there been even a few more people needing treatment she may have died.

I'm delighted to hear she recovered :)

Where do people think we are going to get all the masks to wear in public each day? They aren't reusable and need to be replaced often. We don't even have enough for the healthcare workers at the moment...

He said that. It's community transmissions and he said they can't trace it to a confirmed case or a cluster. It's high especially considering the restrictions and the social distancing measures in place.

    Asymptomatic spreaders?

I actually think if they allowed visits to sit in a garden with good social distancing and encouraged 3 metres between us that people would in fact adhere to it
If they don’t give an inch on Tuesday they run the risk of people doing exactly as they please
By giving a little more people will stick to it and by engaging with the public and driving home the distancing they will get more on board and less breaking the rules

A meet with a friend or family within a certain range in the garden with 3 metres between would calm a lot of the uneasy public

Make some reasonable fabric ones or buy one on the web?

Not sure masks suit my complexion. I think I'll pass

For those (few) who say Yada Yada we gotta die sometime..
Sure, we have all the usual suspects. Cancer, accident, a coronary. As mortal beings we have made a fairly uneasy peace with that. Whole philosophies and empires have been built out of that truce-making exercise.
But a couple of months ago an invisible space ship started haunting the sky out of nowhere and it started shooting out lightning bolts. It looks like the bolts hit those not able to run fast the worst. Over 1000 have died. That's just here. Parts of Italy got crucified. Spain too. France. New York. Bolts zapping 10s of 1000s stone dead.
A lot get hit from the invisible ship and don't even feel it but now they can shoot out invisible bolts from their finger tips that might zap someone else pretty bad.
A lot get hit and fall down but not too bad and they get up and are relieved. Phew. There are a lot of bolts it seems, pyung pyung pying. Easy enough to get hit. Thank goodness most zaps are okay.
Some are getting hit, getting up but feeling really lousy afterwards, even weeks and weeks later. Those ones are saying Fcuk man, I got a mild zap they said but you really do not want to get zapped by those invisible bolts.
We know hardly anything about this space ship and the mysterious invisible bolts. It is kind of simple to say Yada yada it's been 2 months already people, just get on with it.

Perspective is always good, aye. Here are the daily Covid19 deaths compared with the average daily top causes of death in the US.
