Epidemiology of COVID-19 in Ireland - daily reports don't add up last few days
19,383 confirmed cases for midnight 26th, 19,095 for the 25th and 18,431 for the 24th. Yet they say 415 new cases since previous day on the 26th and 690 for the 25th.
Where are they getting these numbers

Reported cases are based on reporting up to midday each day (sometimes 11AM), epidemiology is based on cases as of midnight each day.

I'm just reposting this in case anyone missed the opportunity to see real life proof that there are idiots in society right now making sure the lockdown can be extended.

Libraries are excellent for outreach and community activities these days.

Unfortunately they have an over inflated opinion of themselves as an essential service. They operate in a back slapping bubble.

Something not right there, showing a 817 increase on yesterday's figures, but yesterday's official figure was 55,258 according to the CDC.

Worldmeters listed 2470 new deaths yesterday the 28th, but the official CDC release showed 1337 new deaths

Info all from first page of epi reports and from same time each day. New cases should read 288 not 415.

Reporting is a mess, should really all be in 1 place and all data from a certain time each day for breakdowns.

That is an excellent analysis and clearly illustrates we are past the peak

Previous performance is no guarantee of future performance. Investments may fall. HSE is regulated by the Irish financial conduct authority.

CDC has a few caveats regarding the accuracy of their figures.

Your mistake is looking day to day. The reporting is erratic therefore it’s a fools errand to look for signs in daily data. Applies equally to Monday and Tuesday lest I be accused of only looking to the positive. Trend over a few days is what tell you direction.

I’m looking at published numbers from the start.

And it seems that the government and CMO are also worried about the numbers.

Why so late, bad news, well there is ever good news

Reported by date. The by death date data shows a clear trend.

I am a bit shocked people still watch those briefings religiously. I haven't watched one in weeks. They are very very very repetitive apart from a few key metrics which you can source at any time, if you wish.

    https://www.irishtimes.com/opinion/blame-for-expected-extended-lockdown-shifted-onto-the-public-1.4239955?mode=amp

To be honest, I find his attitude impossible to understand but completely typical. The Irish media and perhaps society has never wanted to accept the problems it itself responsible for and covid is the latest in a litany of examples. Varadkar is absolutely correct, if people stop behaving and keeping to the restrictions, the restrictions will have to officially remain in place for much longer.

I've posted this many times before, but 10% not adhering to the rules makes the measures only 50% as effective. Talking about testing is a complete red herring - you are meant to isolate if you have symptoms. You are meant to be social distancing, reducing contact to family that you live with. Each and every case for the last month has been contracted during the lockdown - we need to remember that.

Society needs to step up and be responsible for itself, instead of looking around for a scapegoat in the Government. You can only bring the horse to water, you can't make it drink it.

More than 26,000 people have died in the UK with coronavirus - the second highest total in Europe - as deaths in care homes and the wider community were included in the government's figures for the first time.

Where are you getting this from? New cases on the 26th was 701, not 288 or 415.

For goodness sake. It's almost ghoulish the way some people await the daily death toll. Ever consider they may be a bit on the busy side? When the figures are out you can just look at any news feed for the details.

Briefing very late. Must be very very sobering numbers about to be released.

Will the lockdown be tightened on Friday>=?

I think they have become a daily ritual routine for some :o

UK has added at least 3500 additional deaths today, presumably either probably deaths or nursing home deaths

Thousands more to be added, 8,000 or so more roughly

I'm hoping none to very few deaths and low cases, we are not all looking for bad news with high figures

We might need to get on with it.

If we had of let this overcome us itd be all over by now ...the outcome would have been horrendous but life would be beginning to return to a semblance of nomral if the exponential curve was allowed. ho hum. hummm

A quick google would have told them that but far easier for them to have a go on here.
