I still don’t get it who they want to be testing? Healthy people?
Absolutely. In order to properly drive this thing back, we'd lke to be testing contacts of confirmed cases. Someone in a workplace gets it? The whole workplace gets tested.

At the moment we're still sitting back and waiting for cases to come forward. This creates a lag and is one of the main reasons why numbers can explode out of control again.

If we can get ahead of it by detecting cases before they come forward, then we can keep the reproduction rate low without widespread restrictions.
Confirmation this morning that the restrictions will not be lifted or eased from May 5th.
That's not what he said though. :)
I can't believe how many seem to be in the denial phase of the crisis curve. I'd have expected more in the acceptance phase by now.
Funny to see the amount of people on this thread crying about the amount of money that's been spent.

My big lament is that when this is all over there will incessant years of whining about how FG spent billions and put us all in the poor house for a lockdown that was never necessary.
These people don't seem to consider the damage that would have been caused if there was no emergency unemployment payment and no business supports.

"When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all".

I seen Gavan Reilly asking a few questions this morning amongst others.

So it now seems the inability to carry out 100k weekly #COVID19ireland tests is one of the factors against relaxing lockdown. Yet it was explained at the weekend that we hadn’t expanded capacity to 15k a day (105k a week) because there wasn’t a case workload to require it?

    https://twitter.com/gavreilly/status/1255399732601671686?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet

I wonder if Tony had a chance to approve and sign off those meeting minutes hes been hiding from the public since March 31st i mean theres no history of issues with transparency there or anything????
I think it's the ability of the system to respond that is more crucial, that 24 hour turnaround. The 100K, as I understand it, is to make sure we have a big enough capacity to test effectively. We don't appear to have a current need for so many tests but it should be there as a proper responsive system.

Poland has announced more restrictions to be lifted. A broad range of services to open up over the next month. Details attached

One thing I can't quite understand in the suggested first phase of relaxation is that the garden centres and DIY places are going to open, but you aren't allowed drive to them as that's not essential. So nobody can go there unless they fall within their 2km area of exercise. So why bother opening when some are already doing online ordering?

Agreed and distance restrictions would need to go hand in hand.

Presume they will be made essential when given the chance to open up?

No opening of schools it seems only for childcare staff.

Will it be extended by 1 or 2 weeks I wonder? Hopefully just the one

Hoping that the plan if released in Friday has some substance to it.
Highly demoralising looking at other countries right across the EU starting to lift restrictions and giving people aims and dates to work towards. If you look at Poland for example they'll be realistically back to normal in June and we could be essentially still where we are now.

    Let's see what Friday brings

At a guess I'd say 12 days. Current restrictions end on a Tuesday night, so 12 days brings it to midnight Sunday 17th.

Anyone see that video doing the rounds of a car stopped on the quays in Dublin it looks like. One Gardai directly in front of the car, as his female colleague speaks to the female occupant of the car? My god, what a toerag of a woman that the female Gardai has to deal with. Well spoken woman, but really vile....I saw it on FB this morning.

2 more than likely, it's simply buying the HSE time to get testing and contact tracing up to scratch, same thing we were told a few weeks ago.

More waffle, pats on the head but no real changes. Utter lemons

Yup but a hell of a lot open

Also gatherings of up to 50 by 1st June

Be very interesting to see how they get on

The 'lockdown' (it's not a lockdown) is a symptom not a cause.

The economy was going to be severely damaged regardless as countries closed borders and trade with each other.

I can't believe how many seem to be in the denial phase of the crisis curve. I'd have expected more in the acceptance phase by now.

How is it not a lockdown?

All these plans are aspirations really though but hopefully yes we will have a potential roadmap by the weekend. I have young children but can’t see anything changing for them from a school perspective.

If there aren't any sort of easing of restrictions the government will lose the compliance of a hell of a lot people.

People are starting to get angry and pissed off.

It will indeed, it's a tight timeline but mirrors quite closely both Spain and Italy in terms of phases

Two weeks initially. Then when we are nowhere near that pie in the sky figure of 100k tests per week and the testing criteria changes again it will be extended to cover the June bank holiday weekend.

So 5 more weeks of this I guess...

In big cities maybe, utter nonsense in rural Ireland. Lots of over 70s have been out through the whole thing, come on half the farmers in Ireland are over 70. My parents in their 80s have been exercising as much as they like.

I live in a housing estate in Dublin, many here are 70 or a few years older .They have all stayed indoors mainly .But most at some stage of the day when things are quiet have gone for a walk , its very easy to avoid or stay at 3-4 metres from others and they go because if they dont they will get stiff and sore . No one can blame them at all because they all know if this carries on their joints and muscles will get stiff , they have to keep moving to avoid it .

That ^^^ reads much better than, "The HSE can get ****ed, we've done our bit," call to arms you posted earlier.

Sorry about the overly emotive language :)

From a school perspective I dont think there's much point really, secondary bar leaving and junior certs would be winding down through May anyway.
Primary will be interesting but I'd say they'll just say see you in September

Yeah probably about primary schools. Hard to see it happening given the expected delays in opening things up this weekend.

All other governments bar UK opening up will put pressure on Leo & Co

If he goes for another 2 weeks with no lifting of restrictions then we won't even be at phase 1 by 18th of May

Unfortunately that looks like what'll happen, I'll wait till Friday to see but compliance is already slipping, you can see it out and about now. For anything to be successful they need public buy in, they had it at the start and a well laid out and detailed plan on Friday might get that back.
