I like listening to Yates but in all fairness he is a shít stirrer. If he thought he'd get more people talking by taking the exact opposite stance you can guarantee he'd switch to that tomorrow.

Its called playing Devil's Advocate, did you never hear of that? We need this more than ever in these times, questions need to be asked. These restrictions are causing untold hardship on many many fronts. We should not be acting like sheep!

We could wait 18 months for a vaccine and then when it finally arrives the virus could mutate, rendering the vaccine useless.
Disease is sadly part of life. Its why its so important to try to remain as healthy as possible and look after yourself.

We can carry on living our lives and accept that, sadly, a number of people are going to die. Mainly older people that already have existing health issues and are on the verge of dying from those issues.

Or we can try to save as many lives as possible by locking down, destroying our economy, stifling the education of our young, eating away at people's mental health, causing a recession that will take years of austerity to get through, causing deaths from delaying other important medical appointments.

I think it would be better to strongly advise the elder generations to cocoon. Let the rest of the country get back on its feet.
I'd rather more people die in the short term than destroy our entire way of life for years to come so some people can live a little longer.

Any more nonsense than the people suggesting we all watch netflix for 2 years hoping for a vaccine?

    What then?

Another two years for it be rolled out to everyone?

Amazes me how many people, knowing how short life is, want to spend theirs sitting in their underwear watching the television.

Thanks for at least following my advice.

Correct? Not your frankly rubbish league table selection for sure.

Ireland includes deaths outside hospitals - that's the point you evidently missed. Trying to make up bs comparisons with other countries who dont - doesn't really help the usual party political type propaganda diatribes being endlessly pushed on this thread

The point you are missing on purpose is you are picking what numbers suit you
    So Ireland’s are correct?
Why, because it suits your narrative
I assume Italy and Spain there numbers are right too.

It’s too easy with people like you

Poor unimaginative craythur. You really shouldn't think in such broad generalities, sweetie. Not everybody who isn't climbing the walls due to the lockdown is watching Netflix in their underwear...or is this just projection on your part, pet?

The future is worse if the measures are lifted too early because you end up in an endless cycle until there is a vaccine.

This will do more economic and societal damage than the current measures.

    EU-9-faXkAAlpgw.jpg

Posters are free to deny it and believe differently of course.

Are these the same people who predicted 120k dead here in a week.

Why does more lockdown translate to having to do it for another 2 years..?

I thought the goal is to minimise contact to allow the virus to die off (because it needs more humans to live).. once it is killed off enough, then we slowly start to lift restrictions with many restrictions in place until a vaccine is found.

Combined with decent testing to monitor the situation this seems to be what we are aiming for (and not like this heard immunity nonsense, wghich can only be truely actualised IF there is a vaccine and the immunity lasts).

So I would assume until testing increases and the virus has dies down a bit, we can look at lifting restrictions. If we go too early the virus will spread and another lock down will begin.

None of this translates to a correlation between an extension now meaning 2 more years of this. If just means right now we all have to double down a bit more for a short while in the hope that it will die out enough. Just like other coronavirus outbreaks over the years.

If they are not easing anything by the 5th of May, they sure as hell better give a plan. Not another 2 weeks, then another, then another one.

Listen, I've said it once already. Stop telling me what I mean and attributing words and meaning to me that are not mine. You clearly only come on here for a row. I'm not going to engage, so spout whatever shi*e you like. I think most people on here have you sussed.

It's a discussion. The ball is in your court. That said I reckon you could ascribe most of above rubbish re your own comments. If they are not as detailed and you actually mean something else - then by all means clarify. But dont try hide behind bluster - it does you no favours.

For watching netlix see painting, gardening, reading, baking and so on.

All perfectly fine hobbies but to spend our lives doing them?

Seems a bit mad given we only get one shot.

I think as well this thread is getting to the stage where petty sniping and arguing is getting a bit over the top - a lot of people just need to calm the fu(k down and see what the policy makers adhere to. It is an evolving situation and virus outbreaks in general are not seen here, never mind one on this scale.

It's crazy people trying to say masks are useless people because can't use them.

As the poster above said are condoms also useless people some people don't know how use them? so no one should use condoms

The masks can be effective, it's the people are useless I just witnessed someone doing everything you shouldn't a few minutes ago, they also had eye protection and gloves going in browsing for shovels with his wife who was just as stupid. Facemask around the necks putting them up when entering the shop. Same with the gloves and glasses took them out of the pockets to put on, probably used them all multiple times during the day shopping.

As for condoms, when was the last time you heard of someone on Rugby tour getting the ride and dying from phneumonia after because he didn't wrap up the little fella.
A stupid anology, granted you didn't make it up but were gullible enough to run with it.

They have to do it this way for two reasons - one - they are learning more about this each day.
two - people are morons - if they think there is going to be 6 weeks lock down there will be a run on supplies in tesco - all the alcohol will sell out, people will get even more annoyed than demonstrated on this thread..

    You are being pedantic.

There was a time when there was the Spanish flu, then there was a time when there wasn't.

We have a reasonable expectation that we will get to a point where we talk about what the Covid-19 virus was like, other than what it is like.

It won't be next Monday, but hopefully, some day, it will be.

Why would there be a run on booze now when we haven't seen one yet and we're like this since mid March?

I would think that garden centres and diy stores will reopen next week at least even if restrictions are extended.

But this poor man was suggesting we stay in lockdown until it goes away.

You haven't seen one yet because the off licences have been kept on the list of essential services. I am not wanting to go into that particularly, but in general there would be the same level of panic buying, I was just using beer as an example same as there was on pasta/ beans / random ****

The point was - you need to announce things in small chunks to get people on board - announcing another month of this cr@p would send more panic an unrest amongst people.

HSE cannot relax restrictions until numbers lower, it is as simple as that.
When they are al lot lower then contact tracing and testing should keep on top of it but social distancing, masks etc will have to be done until it is eradicated.

At this point, it simply doesn't matter what the Government decide. The people want an end to lockdown. There is no more difficulty getting a tesco delivery online as people are back going to the shops. People are out and about getting the exercise in. People that were getting deliveries for elder family members are now going the shop themselves and bringing it down. Businesses are starting to reopen if its at all possible. Thats why there is now more cars on the roads.

Regardless of what the government say on Friday, its time to start taking our freedom back.

Nothing is going to change in two weeks anyways. We know the demographic that are likely to die from covid. Advise them to cocoon.

When lockdown ends, the infection rate is going to increase. Ok course it is. There is no vaccine. But life must go on.

Congratulations. Thst has just been nominated for the most daft comments of the year award.

'De people' is it? Will you give over with the party political type broadcasts. Unless you've undertaken a proper survey of everyone's opinions in the country - you are evidently talking out of your rearend.

Tbh that comes across as little more than the imaginations of someone projecting a tough lad image tbh.

    And Newsflash for ya

Yes people are allowed to shop for others

There are more Tesco deliveries being organised

Yes people are allowed to exercise

Yes some businesses are indeed open and trading.

And funnily enough people use cars to go shopping for food and medical appointments - whats new!

Thankfully you dont get to decide what happens st the end of this week. And thankfully there are solutions for any eejits who might decide they know better than the medical or other professionals.

The same wouldn't know 'freedom' if it ran up and slapped them in the face.

    Why do we have restrictions?

I didn't say it will magically go away.

My understanding is we reduce contact to minimise spread of the infection. It will not truly go away unless a vaccine is developed, but it will drastically die off if it cannot spread to new hosts.
