You think Leo is doing this just because?

You think they want us all too be suffering?

Kids were allowed outside for the first time in
    6 weeks in Spain yesterday.

We have had these restrictions for 4 weeks.

What we have to do is nothing compared to other countries.

Because we were told that the actions we took and the timings of the actions that we took etc were implemented to ensure we did not end up in a situation as bad as Spain.

If thats not the case then lets hear it rather than the mixed messages and skewed rhetoric we have received to date.

If this isnt working then lets hear it. Lets go back to publishing the minutes of meetings between the NPHET and the Government as was the case up until the 31st of March but has suddenly stopped for some reason.

Ive no doubt if those minutes exist it will provide some clarity as to the issues involved in ramping up testing and the decision to shift patients from hospitals to nursing homes and the subsequent spikes that have happened in said nursing homes, maybe theres no correlation at all, maybe there is.

Maybe just maybe we arent actually handling this outbreak as well as is being claimed hence the non release of meeting minutes.

Or maybe we should just continue on regardless and not ask these questions?

anyone care to speculate when pools, gyms and things like being allowed to play five a side football will resume? would this fall under this first wave if there is an easing or restrictions?

The idea that loses of life through suicide equate to deaths from covid is some misnomer. The fact that one group consents to death is fairly key, no matter how terrible the situation.

I was watching this line of questioning for Andrew Cuomo last week, like they were trying to lead him into belittling mental health issues. But at the end of the day a suicide is not the same as a non consensual death and the spreading of a disease to innocent third parties.

If you believe a person in a severe depressed state of mind who commits suicide is consensual in their death then you may need to review your understanding of mental illness.

How about those who wants restrictions to end sign waivers that they'll forgo hospital treatments so that they can carry on with their lives and go to the pub. Those of who are more concerned with the health of people rather than the economy can get treatment then if we get it.

In relation to easing our restrictions our government and health advisors missed one big area. Nearly all eastern countries are doing a very comprehensive media campaign for social distancing.
They are not mincing there words about the importance of it and reasons as to why.
Irish people are not getting the message of how important it is one government produced booklet and a few posters stuck up doesn't cut it.

Yes and you can pay for them privately yourself if you so wish? How you feel about that?

So now the lockdown merchants are saying saving people in nursing homes takes priority over saving people who suffer mental breakdowns over their business collapsing.

    Sick.

Not everyone uses those - I certainly don't. Making uses of social media in some form what be good here.

I also never got any booklet - were they sent out in the end?

    Not a hope.

You know this isn't a flyer. I work in the health service and I don't see much rationale for continuing at this level of lockdown. Now, I don't believe we should have pubs open but it would be nice to get more than 2km away from the house.

And if people aren't paying taxes what do you reckon will pay for your treatment? Think about that before you pat yourself on the back.

Indeed, anyone who thinks otherwise is a loon or braindead.

Whats your plan then? Stay locked down until a vaccine arrives? What if it doesn't?

What do we do when the money to pay people runs out?

I'd be ok with the loosening of the 2k. Not so that we go back to people cramming beaches, parks and mountains like we had before the 2k limit came in, but enough so that people could do a bit more exercise. If people showed some cop on and obeyed the social distancing stuff it'd be fine. Maybe open some hardware stores/garden centres etc with capacity limits and social distancing. Likes of Harvey Norman/Curry's could open too as they do sell things that could be deemed essential for home working.

Some are advocating for pubs to open which shouldn't even be close to on the table. Restaurants, pubs, cinemas, gyms should be well down the line for opening.

Google some of there media videos for it and you will understand what I mean.
An example is neighbors talking to closely then cuts to a real person on a ventilator
And the family interview asking people to social distancing.
Shock factor is what we need

It looks like the weather is going back to being the usual crap in the coming days, so if there are any easing of restrictions at least that might help place from getting crowded

The lockdown is a dream come true for long time dole bums as all "activation measures" have been suspended until at least the end of July.

    Thast the thing.

99% of people couldnt care less about the pub opening yet its the same simple rhetoric put out there, people just want to go to the pub etc.

Personally couldnt care less if i didnt get to a pub for 6 months, all i want is a bit of transparency and honesty in whats going on and how decisions are being reached.

Theres a nagging feeling i have that we arent actually doing as good a job as we have been claiming to do and some errors have been made.

Lets see what comes out, if anything!

For certain things, unfortunately yes. Most can be opened as long as social distancing can be maintained. Some places can not operate with social distancing tbf though. So they either hike prices to accommodate the shortage of people e.g. cinemas, restaurants here or they can't open.

Some things will likely never go back to normal until a vaccine comes in, or at least some reliable treatment options are found e.g. crowds in stadiums, large concerts, nightclubs, packed pubs etc.

Well unfortunately their argument only works if they're able to pigeonhole us as a bunch of sloppy drunks looking to go on the piss so there you go.

Anyone know if dentist practices are open?

Nope. Emergency treatment only. And even for that, I understand it's difficult.

Leo would want to have a very good reason come Friday, or whenever he makes his speech, to extend this lockdown until another arbitrary date.
    He won't.

I called it out last week, and the media are still at it; hyping up the "we're going to be locked down forever!!!!" train, when there's been no indication that this is the case.

Italy is the poster child for how badly this outbreak could go, and they're lifting their lockdown on Monday. Granted, they started 3 weeks before we did, but their numbers indicate that at this point they have the virus about as under control as we do.

And it's the same in other EU countries. I think for the most part there will be a relatively uniform plan across the EU for this in terms of what is lifted an when.

Rumours have been emerging all over the place for the last few days about non-essential workers being prepped to get back to work on Tuesday.
I work in an area where most of our business involves our clients forward-planning their employees' movements, and we've seen a large uptick in transactions. Which is a clear indicator to me that many companies are confident that they will have employees back on the road inside the next two weeks.

    If I had to put money on it, I would say that;

    - The 2km ban restriction will be lifted, and maybe rolled back to "do not go to holiday homes or hotels"
    - Social distancing guidelines will remain in effect, but Gardai will have the powers to disperse and/or close any public areas deemed to be too busy/crowded
    - People will be advised that "merging" extended family groups is OK provided that it's done on a very limited basis
    - People with pre-existing conditions and those over 80 will be advised to continue cocooning, with those over 70 without pre-existing conditions will be advised to avoid mixing outside of their household.
    - For non-essential business, working from home will still be required unless the employer can provide a good reason why it is not possible/appropriate. And if they cannot maintain social distancing in the workplace, they will have to remain closed.

You still can't leave your region, you'll have to wear masks if visiting family, they're not exactly going back to normal, nowhere near normal.

I'd be over the moon if the 2km went to 5km. Even 3km would make a really big difference, as my usual walking route would then be open to me once again. And as I like to be away from crowds, I don't mean walking down O'Connell Street in Dublin!

There are two large threads on this forum about the pub, so it clearly looks like people care about pubs opening. Both those threads have more views and posts than the mental health sticky for example.

I mean looking for transparency and honesty is fine, and I'd agree we're not doing a great job based on how our numbers have gone vs other countries (I've been comparing ours to similarly sized places like Denmark and Norway and i'ts not good)

I'm mostly interested in if I can visit family again. I'm in Dublin at the moment and they're in Cork. If this drags on, I'm giving serious consideration to terminating lease in Dublin and finding somewhere to rent down in Cork.

I wish they could give some clearer indication of how things are going and if people will be allowed to travel long distances to see family members so I can plan accordingly.

Sure, but aside from a few gobsh1tes, nobody is looking for a return to normality.
