The number of healthcare workers infected has gone over 5000. I fear nursing homes may be worse than we thought.

One thing to remember from the 700 new cases is the vast majority are likely asymptomatic, and probably wouldn't have been tested without the mass testing.

Yesterdays healthcare workers number was 4,847 , it's an absolute mess in those settings quite clearly.

Wonder if they can report on that

Surely wouldn't be hard to do? Simply tick a box or something to say that the person has no fever or cough or whatever. I doubt it's been done though.

How lovely that they get to go on day trips. Can't see anything wrong here.

If they enter our jurisdiction they should follow our rules. Utterly ridiculous. Send 'em back to where they came from.

Should the confirmed cases not be getting lower by now

Ramp up in testing means more cases being caught. That is not a bad thing. Identifying cases that are existing already is a positive for contact tracing.

We were told earlier in the week by the CMO to expect more cases as testing was ramped up.

    Exactly. Turn them back.

There seems to be legitimate reasoning been used to explain increase in cases. However surely we should be seeing a reduction to allow for easing of restrictions next week

I have to say it is one part of the response that I have found utterly bizarre. The complete reticence around closing borders is something that leaves me scratching my head when you compare it to the in-country response. I'm at a complete loss to explain why the policies have remained so loose with regards to our national and international borders.

If the nursing homes are kept under lockdown then I think they can loosen restrictions.

Thanks. Its good the WHO clarified their position that they expect most people who have recovered will have antibodies going forward.

A couple of people on here last night tried to claim there was no evidence full stop of immunity after being recovered. Turns out they were wrong as usual.

I have no evidence that I'll be alive tomorrow, but I expect that I will be.

    See the difference?

The law is a complete ass in this regard, in a nutshell "non nationals" get off the hook. Many of them are Irish citizens to start with.

Close contacts still count as community cases

We are not in lockdown. There are restrictions. It is not like in other places where one would be allowed out only with a permit etc. Children in Spain for example will be allowed out tomorrow for one hour closely supervised outdoor exercise after being not allowed out since March 14th. This " lockdown" is quite mild compared to elsewhere.

How di we know very little in the community?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,813 ✭✭✭joe40

Does anyone have experience of testing. I have raised temp for the last few days, but no other symptoms. I'm going to phone GP tomorrow about testing but not sure if I fit the criteria. I am self isolating in the mean time. Keeping apart from family members, no food shopping etc

GP referrals for testing has fallen to low levels and hospital numbers are falling.

The people in the Republic will not tolerate this and take law into their own hands and restrict their movement and rightly so.
