I mean seriously, has the man no clue for what his role is and what he's doing.
He gives an interview and starts making outlandish claims like that and then turns around afterwards and said they were just his "opinion" and he will now to the superior knowledge of the CMO and his team.

Who in the name of jaysus is actually running the country right now?

These are very worrying times, where the acting government have handed over the reigns of the country to a bunch of unelected academics and a less than stellar CMO, who's previous track record would have seen him marched out the door in a functioning society.

I suppose the SF incumbent would have been so much better. That is probably what you think. Get a life.

Oh and I think you meant to say "reins" rather than Reigns, that smacks of her majesty somehow.

We're going to have a diabetes and liver disease pandemic following this not to mention the pension crisis in 18yrs.

Throw in the economic and mental health ones too, they’ll be even more immediate if we lash another two months on top of this

Ok, I understand, you haven't heard about the tens of thousands of people killed due to a highly contagious disease that is going around.

What elections were suspended by the way?

Great to hear minister Harris come out and give a reality check for the anti lockdown crowd.

Gone right up in my estimation

I absolutely guarantee you there will be an upswing in illegal parties shortly. This isn't China.

Big time and that's where we need the security forces of the state to come down hard on these morons.

Maybe if we tax it like cigarettes or climate change it'll go away, we're not in lockdown due to smoking. We're at what a few hundred deaths and smoking kills about 7000 a year here and yet the government have no problem taking the tax on them.

Also cash has been abolished? People have been placed under house arrest? When did this happen? I must have missed it.

It wouldn’t surprise me unfortunately. I sincerely hope it does not, as it’ll be two months since lockdowns began which is a very long time

The lack of medication to treat this virus or an vaccine??

Its likely over 1000 deaths here by 1st may,way things are headed

I do hope people don't get complacent

We have two weeks to stick the restrictions out and get the virus really under control

    Get the numbers further down

Some worrying videos of street parties from the weekend

It's a small minority but I hope it doesn't spread

Stick with the restrictions so we can begin to relax them in May

I think we'll have one for the road, another extension of one or two weeks as the numbers still won't be where they want them to be.

Beyond that I don't think it's feasible to expect people to lockdown further, people just won't want to know at that stage.

I can't reasonably return to work myself until the school/childcare situation is resolved and I would imagine a lot of people are in a similar position. I'll likely have to leave my job if it reopens before childcare is available.

Drop the 2km Rule for 2 weeks, if successful open the creches, 2 weeks later the primary schools. It's about the only way really unless the government comes out with a scheme where parents can't lose their job and can remain to get paid until the little ones have somewhere to go.

No it's a real one makes bang bang sounds, judging by some of the posts here it may be needed to fight fachism yet.

Still waiting for the army to be deployed a few weeks ago based on the super secret information that you were privy to.

Also you keep using the word fachism (fascism) and you don't seem to know the meaning of the word.

There is quite a severe lockdown in Ireland backed up by unprecedented draconian legislation. It seems with some people unless the army aren’t on the streets beating people with canes it’s not a “real lockdown”.

The only reason people are seeking tougher enforcement is because large numbers of people are witnessing many others in large numbers who are very actively disregarding social distancing. There shouldn’t be a need to enforce at all. It should be a given that when the health of our entire population comes under threat the whole of the population come together to distance and to heed the advice of the authorities on this.

It’s unprecedented certainly but not draconian. Less enforcement will only encourage more to give the “ohh look I miss Paddy, Frank, Mary we are just meeting for one hour”... end up like I witnessed, the fûckers all hugging each other  what I wouldn’t have given to see a cop car turn the corner at that minute.

Dropping the 2km rule while people are still at home & the weathers nice could be a mistake.

Getting people back working where possible first whilst still restricting movements otherwise is the way I see it going.

I don't see a problem as long as people keep their distance, they could possibly still keep the carparks and public toilets closed in areas people will try and flock to. It would be enough to keep people away unless we're going to turn into India when it comes to toilet behavior.
We've enough of inside, insulate the at risk.

Letting people go as far as they want risks moving the virus from a high infection, area to a lower infection area, increasing the spread, distancing is not 100% effective, it reduces the risk, but doesn't completely eliminate it.

The best scheme that can be hoped for there is something like 350/week IMO along with a 3 or 6 month mortgage break where needed.
WFH & flexi hours might allow couples to manage looking after kids and both working in lots of cases.
Prior to the current set up when schools closed where my GF works extended office hours from 6am to midnight to allow folk get their 39 hrs in over a much wider spread. It was something I suppose.
Primary schools will be closed in July & August as normal and likely won't be opening before that. I can't see social distancing of 2m being implemented in May/June is primary schools and that must surely be a must do in the short-term.

Health care workers got no assistance/facility for childcare so far.... Going forward the rest of us likely won't either. Primary schools likely won't be open until September.

Dunno about creches TBH. Messy one also.

There will be restrictions after May 05th... Restrictions will ease beginning may 05th.
It's not known what restrictions will ease first.

That was exactly what happened for the Together at Home healthcare workers tribute performances this weekend. Maybe artists performing from their homes will be the only possible way to allow concerts to go ahead for the foreseeable future.

That was just a load of “celebrities” filling their need for attention. You can rest assured that very few of them give one rats about healthcare workers.

And what, savagely beat them with batons for giving a hug? Is this what it's come to?
