Hence my orional point, its a shame keelings put the effort into advertising these jobs as well as they did in Bulgaria.

I and everyone I know were unaware of these jobs, especiually during a lockdown and yet Bulgairans were found and interviewed for them.
They clearly didn't get the numbers they needed in Ireland.
Advertising in bulgaria?!...it's more likely they went through an agency like they likely did in the past.
Maybe read article already posted, it is UK but similar thing.

This is what a world turning against globalization looks like, people start to wake up and realize the lunacy of the situation.

Think about Bulgaria. Apparently they are suffering from a shortage of such workers in their own country.

Hard luck dude. Ya can't use that as a cop out.

If you get the job you will be an essential worker and can travel to work.

Put your money where your mouth is. Or are ya all talk?

Your post is the definition of anecdotal dude.

My post was the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I am an expert on what I have seen first hand

It's an essential service as you well know.

You seem so keen good luck with your interview

Btw Keelings, I will never buy your products again or off a company you supply to.
I thought it was obvious when I said I wouldn't buy the products they supply. I believe Tesco's sells many thousands of products not sourced from Keelings for eg Dairygold, Heinz Ketchup etc etc.
Practically all of Tesco's fresh food is distributed through a depot operated by Keelings. I thought you should know. No way to tell those apart in the shop though.

You were unaware that people pick strawberries? That it existed as a job?

Did you think they just spontaneously grew overnight in a little plastic punnet on a shelf in a supermarket?

I am fully aware these jobs are done, I just assumed the lads who have been doing these jobs for the last few years were still you know, Working?

Isn't it a sad situation that that is the case
Wouldn't call it "sad", but like our over-reliance on China for manufacturing, it goes to show how we've placed too much emphasis on certain forms of education over others.

This is an opportunity to rebalance our priorities and show young people that being a farm hand, fruit picker, binman, or a bus driver is just as honourable and valuable to society as being a doctor, an architect or a solicitor.

We've spent 50 years teaching Irish people that we should all aspire to hold university qualifications, and that the "other" jobs are the dregs left for the failures in life. And we need to change that.

But lamenting that now won't turn a load of Irish people into productive farm workers overnight.

So your problem is now the cheap labour??
I am showing that even in a Lockdown Situation that the God of Cheap Labour has to be Worshipped regard-less of Pandemic and Lockdown.

I suspect the poster you directed your comment to wouldn't pass the stringent requirements that Keelings have ie willingness to work for less than minimum wage and long hours.

    Ok.
So tell me how much are they actually getting paid?

The government could easily make it so the long term unemployed or those on a covid payment could take up seasonal work without it affecting their payments. Since the imported workers are not tax resident here it wouldn't cost the state anything.
Such a measure would be overwhelmed with applicants willing to make extra cash and get out of house arrest.
Locally produced food where the labour is flown around and back is not local and is not good for the planet under any circumstances.

Farmers love to import exploited labour doing 18 hour days and charge them hefty rents out of their meagre wages. How else would gombeenmen get high rents for bunk beds ten to a room in ballygobackwards ? I know an eastern European charged higher rent than Dublin out of his minimum wage to live in the middle of absolute nowhere sharing with many others
    Its not anecdotal.

Some farmers possibly do exploit foreigner workers which is unfortunate but I don't know any farmers who do that.

Also I find it hard to believe an eastern European is paying higher than the average Dublin rent in the 'middle of absolute nowhere'. That sounds like a crock of shít to be honest.

Ahh jeez read the f'king thread will you!!! Most of these earn many multiples of minimum wage. They are highly experienced efficient fruit pickers who are paid in accordance with their output. Some of the really productive ones make huge money but it's very hard work.

Are they paid while in the 14 day isolation?

The narrower a man’s mind, the broader his statements.

Well, as you have no idea what im currently doing id suggest you havent a clue.

Remember, the Irish are above these types of jobs now accroding to you, so we must all be working in essential jobs.

Irish people worked in large numbers picking fruit in Holland in the 90s. Was absolute chaos though. Never seen such carnage at the weekends. Then it seemed to be Irish and poles at that activity in the Netherlands. The poles seemed to do it for the money, Irish people did it for a working holiday where they could get wrecked at the weekends. The owners of the farms always seemed to be trying to scam people out of wages but never worked out well

    Ahh, there it is, stereotyping.

Is it because I is Irish?

But you don't seem aware that strawberries don't fruit in December?

You know it's a seasonal job right? Like dressing up as one of Santy's elves for Christmas. That one you can do in December, but you might find less demand in July. Perhaps you could merge both into some kind of elf-strawberry-picking hybrid superstar? (You'd still need to find other things to fill other months though too ... it might suit an aforementioned teacher though!)

The reality is that the Gang Bosses ain't going to tell you that because it would upset the delicate sensitivities of the Irish to know how much these workers are being exploited.

    Then what your problem?

Maybe Im concerned about the future of this country? You know , the country that has close to 1 million unemployed and will suffer a global economic collapse?
