Social distancing measures needing to be continued right up until a vaccine is found means pubs, restaurants, hotels, playground etc. will continue to be shut for another 12 months minimum then?

    No.

The backlog of 11000 tests is expected to be cleared some time this week.
80% of these are being done by the German lab.

When the backlog is cleared, they will be using the German lab for ongoing current testing, so at that stage the German lab results can be included in the growth rate calculation.

Percentages going down aside, 500 + new cases is alarming for a small country like ours..

Why 'alarming'... Harris et al suggesting it's very stable and manageable.

Given so many people are waiting 2 weeks to get a result - that seems to be the standard wait time- is there really much difference in the "age" of the German lab positives versus the "age" of the Irish lab positives? Many people online over the past few days stating they had just received results from Germany with swabs taken on 25/26th March. Is that really so much "older" than the Irish results that we can consign them to not being relevant to monitoring progression of the virus?

The wait is more 2 days than 2 weeks now.

New cases mean virtually nothing. ICU numbers are the ones to watch.

How no decrease in numbers by now so?

    Here we go again.
It's about flattening the curve at the moment, the decrease has yet to come. And this is exactly as expected.

Liz there may be no decrease for 3 months - people need to understand that this will be very slow process. No point coming on here day after day wondering why no decrease.

There was an overall 1500 increase on thursday or friday when all german results were added.

I know but I didn't get a text from one of my parents worried the end of last week. I got it today which I why I asked today just so I was clear in my head about them.

Our level of testing is one of the highest. More testing = more positive cases identified.

Must be hard for the 'powers that be' bots/shills to put a positive gloss/spin on 365 deaths and over 10,000 confirmed cases.

But I suppose we should admire them for trying.

They’re newly diagnosed, what part of that don’t you understand? They SHOULD be included, not all of us are in favour of Chemical Ali type reporting of numbers.

I think you are trying to be Chemical Ali 2. You know perfectly well that the German samples are from historical cases. Yes they should be included in our totals but as regards the ongoing trend they are not only meaningless but distorting.

"527 more cases of the coronavirus have been diagnosed in the Republic. In addition, there are a further 465 confirmed cases of Covid-19 from the backlog of tests at the laboratory in Germany."

    Am I right in thing8ng that's 992 for today?

He clarified in the press conference that he gave the wrong number in his statement.

Didn't see that. I only read the RTE article with the numbers updated for today on it.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Do you honestly believe what you are typing? It's been like 2 weeks of restrictions. You can leave your house anytime you want, you can spend all day outside if you want to, it's far from a lockdown, and your very naive if you think that supermarket only place people are out together.

So you're telling me people are breaking the rules? because you're; not supposed to go outside for exercise and gather people from another household.

You're hardly gonna catch something off some one if they are a good distance from you outside.

Do you seriously think it's more risky to catch the virus outside when people are standing well clear of each other? I would think supermarket is the most risky place as it's enclosed with narrow aisles.

But would people like that bother looking for a test, unless they were seriously ill, which you'd imagine most of them wouldn't given the age profile?

I'm living with two people at the moment who I'm utterly convinced will not tell me or isolate themselves if they start having symptoms.

All cases should be reported on the day the result is known, for the day the test was taken

Might have something to do with the CMO not ordering lockdowns in nursing homes.

You want Dubliners to live, fair play.

Blow all the bridges on the M50 and setup an escape from New York type scenario

I am presuming that you and some of your similarly-minded chaps on here will be chomping at the bit on the very first day restrictions are loosened to slip on your hard hat, hi vis vest and rigger boots, so you can manfully go on out there and share a one metre square and less than salubrious jacks in a welfare cabin with 15 other people, and spend the rest of your working day within hocking distance of your working buddies.
    Post pics please!
Or... could it be that you are a white collar worker who can stand back at a goodly safe distance admiring while your beloved economy roars back into action regardless of health and safety? Hmmmmmm....

So they keep saying, yet so many people I know left waiting in the past week. Are you saying that the 500+ Irish results today, for example, represent mostly results from swabs taken in the past 2-3 days?

It is not good though, is it. Well, just in my opinion. I hope these figures start going down soon. It may not be growth but persistent growth would be unthinkable at this stage . I cannot feel congratulatory that we do not have some kind of wild exponential growth when that would be impossible given our demographics. We are such a low density population. We have serious restrictions - supposedly. For a fair while now. And yet we have this persistence of numbers that are not great. About 40% extra on normal death numbers in a day any other year. I don't know what it is like in towns and cities, out here in the boonies it is silent, no cars, if you meet someone walking on the road we are backing up into gateways to give wider berth, the village shops are sombre places with people nervously keeping back from each other. Either this virus is bloody acrobatic or people are not staying at home somewhere.

We are low density overall but not in Dublin and that appears to be where we have trouble

I guess maybe my understanding of flattening the curve is wrong as with lockdown restrictions I was expecting decreasing positive cases and less deaths by now but from what I see both are still high in numbers and we haven't hit the peak surge

3 outbreaks in prison yet we were told they were case free previously

Just on the idiots that went to Cheltenham.
I've now heard of three who came back and went straight back to work and a days later had symptoms and ended up being tested and confirmed cases.
Those guys should be sacked imo. I don't care how good they are at their jobs, they are potentially responsible for some innocent person dying. There should be no job for anybody like that.

I agree with what you are saying but unfortunately that horse has long since bolted from the stable. Same story with the people who went on ski trips to Italy, the Italian rugby supporters who travelled to Dublin and the ones who went to the Liverpool-Atletico Madrid CL match. We are where we are.

Rest in peace to those that have died. I hope to God we've come to the peak of this. I still cannot get my head around gatherings like Cheltenham. The organisers have blood on their hands as far as I'm concerned.

The majority of the Irish lab cases are realistically from the last 10 days, meaning they're likely still active unless some of them had miraculous recoveries. The German cases are up to 30 days + ago.

But where are people getting the virus in the first place? it can't magically transport to your home. Everything else is closed so they must be catching it in the supermarket.

Up to 14 days incubation. All our contacts circles are a lot smaller. Could still take over a month to to spread within these clusters
