That cannot happen, would kill far more than it would save in the long term. Already some area are seeing increased deaths due to heart attacks. Cancers will go untreated, mild or chronic issues will become life threatening. We have to plan to never have a vaccine, and put the necessary supports in place to treat the large numbers of people who will get it, like used to be the case with TB hospitals. The next few months of restrictions should be used to put those plans in place. After that we have to plan to return to normal. If the vaccine comes it’s a bonus

We can't live with this level of restrictions for three years. And we won't.

The question is what could we do for three years, if that's how long it takes. I suspect the vaccine will be a lot faster to market than a typical vaccine given the sheer importance of it.

Saw a rake of people buying Easter eggs yesterday. Hardly essential. One person bought only Easter egg's, so the only reason for traveling was to buy non essential items. Disgraceful.

Tesco filling up sections of thier shop with plants, fertilizer and gardening items, because the hardware shops are closed.

We can all congregate in supermarkets and spread the virus, but can't go to a gardening center or hardware chain, or collect a trampoline bought on DoneDeal.

This lockdown is farcical. Open the hardware stores, furniture shops, home appliance shops, etc. Open the building sites.

All you need to close are pubs, restaurants, cinemas and tourists spots / beaches.

How long have you been an epidemiologist yourself?

The word fearmongering has been thrown around a lot the last few weeks but this post is the absolute height of it.

Where in the name of Beyoncé did you get the idea that doctors are going to stop treating cancer patients?

According to the Sunday Times FFs Simon Donnelly says we have the 10th highest death rate in the world from Coronavirus. How did this happen?, haven’t seen this written about anywhere else.

1 in 15000, hardly spectacular for one of the worst countries

I'm broken after hearing it tbh.

Some people still think they'll be going to Albruferia in July.

A lot still in the denial stage.

And what about the long term side effects (if there were to be any) of this rushed in vaccine? Do you think a company is going to leave itself open to being sued due to long term side effects there may be, that the company didn’t pick up on because they rushed through the vaccine?

I thought temperature and UV levels were the reason that colds and flus tend not to happen in spring and summer?

    This.

It seems that with a functioning health system where critical patients can get treatment the disease has a case fatality rate of around 0.5% when asymptomatic and mild cases are accounted for. As time goes on we will better understand the virus and how it works and be able to apply more targeted treatment measures and hopefully some antiviral treatments/antibody transplants etc will help to increase the capacity of the health service to cope with the volume of patients will help too.

The idea that we can lockdown the country indefinitely and come out with a lower amount of deaths than a disease with 0.5% case fatality rate is obscenely uninformed dangerous nonsense.

We had the landscape people in last week for our apartment complex. I was surprised as it's hardly an essential service. I'd imagine the same could be said for painters.

The reason I asked is as follows.
Friday night tubs and Amy huberman spent 20 minutes waffling about how important the whole social distancing was, and how it’s vital that we all stay at home.
    Fair enough so far yeah?
“I hear you got a dog”says tubs to finish an already sh1te interview up.
It’s not bad enough the late late insist on interviewing either Amy huberman or Brian o Driscoll once a week but now they are interviewing the fcukin dog.
So away goes Amy and lands back with the dog and explains that the gardener and painter were holding the dog in the hall while the interview was on Incase it would bark.
    What’s the story with that?
Tubs and huberman the 2 wafflers caught waffling.ye all stay home but we can carry on as normal.
Do as I say and not as i do.
Did anyone else see that farce?

Apart from having poor taste , I don't think they are hugely in denial. I don't see Euopean airlines not getting their summer season in or their wont be any airline in the Autumn. There might be some restrictions on oap flying, wearing masks on flights

It’s a running joke. The painter and the gardener she’s referring to are both her husband Brian O’Driscoll.

I didn’t see the interview but she’s great craic on Instagram.

If the Late Late bothers you that much, switch it off?

Yeah I had a trip to Italy in June and one to Germany in August planned. Written both these off. I'd say June 2021 will be an optimistic date for a sun holiday

Breast cancer screening & cervical screening has stopped & doctors are expressing concern that this may lead to an increase in undiagnosed cases.

Spain has broken a 3 day trend of reducing deaths.

619 new deaths today vs 510 yesterday.

Edit: new cases are slowing though, with 4,100 added

Far from it. If all other countries were using the same accounting system it would be cause for concern. Otherwise it's meaningless

Is Amy swanning around the city doing, self promoting, puff piece interviews essential?

And before you go on about mental health, I'm fully confident that long term exposure to Tubs and Amy, will have detrimental effects.

If everyone hates him and the show why watch it? Viewer numbers are a big part of what keeps a show or it's presenter in place. I haven't watched it since Gay Byrne left and the plank took over, and I don't watch his show on VM.

I suppose it does provide a public service as per the broadcasters remit, in giving people something to moan about.

Nope, it was done over video call so cool your jets. Based on her insta she hasn’t left the house. She posts pics of herself, Brian or the dog with funny captions. It’s enjoyable light relief.

They nearly had to connect Boris Johnson to a ventilator when he got sick.

When Tubs got sick they connected him to a slurry agitator.

I’m sorry now but that mans off his head if he thinks people are going to carry on like this for 3 years.
Three weeks more will be the most that people are going to be able to take of this.

We have to get back to some sort of reality. How can we continue this way.

We don’t know how many have it throughout the country , Testing is a shambles wait ten days for a test and another ten for results that’s nearly a month to know whether u had it or not and then try and trace who you’ve been in contact with...

We still have people coming into the country for god sake.

The experts can give their opinions from their studies of what we need to do in an ideal scenario

That’s their expertise and yes they may be right but there will be nothing left here if we continue this indefinitely.

How long can we foot the bill for this so called lockdown.

So far 1 in 15000 have died, man of them elderly in nursing homes, or with underlying conditions.

In 19 days we need to move on.
