If you only allow freight in, how would that work with the truck driver, he has to self isolate in his cabin before making his delivery? Freight doesn't magically just arrive in the distribution centers.
If people wanted to come in, they can just arrive via the border up north. How are they planning on preventing that?
I hate hearing people suggest ideas, without having to come up with a practical plan to implement it.

Why is this so material when the result is an overwhelmed hospital system and huge numbers dying (unmitigated).

The denominator might mean some difference in mortality rate but it does not bring it anywhere near flu. To do so, you would have to a huge difference in the denominators for these disease. Where is the evidence that say literally everyone in Ireland is infected with Coronavirus (whisch is the only way these two denominators would be comparable).

Do these people at least agree the absolute number of deaths for unmitigated flu is less than a completed unmitigated Coronavirus epidemic.

You need to read more closely. They said hospital systems, not our hospital system. There are many hospital systems crippled across the world and that cannot be contested.

Several babies in Kildare have tested positive for Covid 19.

Nationally, 16 babies have tested positive and over half of cases are in Dublin.

Cork, Kildare, Wicklow and Meath have the highest number after that.

And, over 2,000 healthcare workers have now tested positive for Covid 19.

HSE figures show there are currently 117 outbreaks in nursing homes.

Dr Paddy Mallon is obviously not a doctor of geography. We cannot close the borders to the UK as it would involve closing our land border, we could however close our sea & air border with Great Britain (if we needed to stop the influx of British tourists).
