Similarly I was surprised early on in the pandemic to see different shops adopting different standards when it cam e to staff wearing gloves at tills, I respectively pointed this out to a local store manager one day in a discussion to be told that they were advised by their health and safety officer that gloves were counter productive, yet 2 days later all members of staff at the tills were wearing them and changing them after each customer.

There's many good reasons to wear masks during the pandemic, obviously practising good hand hygiene etc needs to be maintained.
