I do. Make our peace with the fact that about 10,000 of us will die.

Makes you think, the UK are allegedly not even counting deaths in nursing homes and the like. Where are they at really....

Not quite.Over 50% were nursing home residents but in the majority of cases the patient had been transferred to hospital prior to death.

An article in Politico from a couple of days a go looking at how Italy can attempt to lift the lock down and the risks therein.
Italy looks at life after lockdown - with fear and reluctance

In Codogno, a small town in the northwestern region of Lodi, people have been confined to their houses for more than six weeks. But many aren't anxious to see life go back to normal — at least, not yet. Before the coronavirus epidemic hit, Codogno was a town just like any other in the region, with its low-lying, pastel-colored houses and surrounding fields. That all changed in late February, when the community of 16,000 people suddenly appeared on every front page in Europe as ground zero of Italy's rapidly exploding outbreak — and one of the first towns on the Continent to be fully locked down.

The transition from normal to coronavirus lockdown happened almost overnight. On February 21, a 38-year-old local man showed up at the hospital in a severe condition and tested positive for the virus. The next day, there were 40 new infections and two people had died. On February 23, Codogno and 10 nearby municipalities were shut down and formed part of a so-called red zone. “The citizens were in shock,” Sara Boschiroli, a local psychologist who started a hotline to support residents, recalled. As the contagion spread to other regions, Italy soon became a case study for researchers in the rest of Europe and the United States trying to predict how the virus would affect their communities.

Your numbers seem to be wrong maybe some have updated since but the UK is 145 per million not 50 as you say.

    Rest as below

    Holland 154
    Sweden 88
    USA 60
    Ireland 58
    UK 145
    Italy 322
    France 202
    Spain 350
    Germany 33
    Holland 147
    Israel 11
    Poland 5

In this light I don't think Ireland is doing too bed.

UK bad and probably worse in relaity due to how they record deaths.

Holland really bad when compared to neighbours, they don't really have a lockdown, people can roam about and people being told that children do not carry the virus and it's ok for kids to play with each other.

Sweden's policies starting to show as a failure too.

Sky News confirmed that the UK total is just from deaths that occurred in hospitals. If we were using this methodology, our rate would be around 28 per million

Not quite. Over 50% of deaths were of nursing home residents. Some of these occurred in hospital after admission, whether or not in ICU. Some occurred in the nursing homes. I am not sure (don't recall) if a figure was given for the latter.

We're probably the only ones giving the full figures both in and out of hospital too. Thats a huge difference. It would mean about 50% less deaths in our case. I assume those not reporting them will be similar

The US is taking up an ever bigger presence when looking at daily fatalities alone in global terms

    Screen%20Shot%202020-04-11%20at%2011.18.10%20AM.png?itok=ju1qJ-do

Their total deaths have actually just passed Italy's.

Leaving out Asia and Africa at the bottom there is the USA not proportionally enough represented in that chart? They have 328 million, Europe have 750 million population. UK, Italy and Spain together have 180 million thereabouts, and much worse than US so far. I know some say US will explode further but others say it is calming, like Ceadaoin who lives there. There is kind of a curiosity to see America fail on this hurdle - seems a bit mean. They are doing as well and as disastrously as many of the rest of us against a novel virus. Don't you think?

Big jump in deaths reported in Florida today.

48 yesterday, 114(?) so far today.

That state of all states is the one you'd have most concerns about.

    The governor's an idiot too.

    (I'm assuming worldometers is correct)

I mean, I said 10 minutes and wasn't really rigid about it so what are you finding issue with?

I have issue with you talking about 'enough', in terms of sunlight and viatami D when there is good evidence people in Europe don't get enough of either, in general. There can be negative consequences from too much sun exposure, but I have seen an article which made a good case that mapping sunlight levels vs all cancers tended to indicate that there was actually a correlation between high sunlight levels and a protective effect and reduced risk in terms of total cancer numbers.
Evidence is also emerging that vitamin D may help reduce the risk of bowel cancer and other cancers and may be linked to a number of other diseases.

With this in mind it is important to make sure your vitamin D level is sufficient for good health.
    https://www.cancer.ie/cancer-information-and-support/cancer-types/skin-cancer/vitamin-d-and-the-sun

Ensuring people have plenty of vitamin D would likely play a significant part in reducing the numbers ending up on ventilators as people with robust immune systems are more likely to see no or mild symptoms.

The shine a light thing tonight could be very emotional. We actually have about 25 Chinese latterns that we will release tonight. I've shared them out with neighbours. It'll look amazing and give a little hope

BERLIN: A fire at a zoo in western Germany in the first minutes of 2020 killed more than 30 animals, including apes, monkeys, bats and birds, authorities said. Police said the fire may have been caused by sky lanterns launched to celebrate the new year.

Expect reports of gorse fires tomorrow.

Please don't. The emergency services have enough to be doing without having to put out the fires these things cause when they land.

how are Sweden's policies starting to show as a failure. 17 deaths today with a population twice ours. How long until people accept that they got their strategy correct

I see 200 of the 288 deaths occurred in hospital (including nursing home admissions). I'd assume that most, if not all, of the remaining 88 deaths occurred in nursing homes.

Judging the major reduction in cars in the car park here in the last two days, I suspect lots of people aren't shocking to the rules and have gone somewhere for the weekend.

Because of the transfer of some nursing home patients to hospital prior to death their deaths become included in the hospital deaths. The most recently available figure for hospital deaths in this country is 200 or 70% of the deaths at that time.
