I think most would prefer if they agreed a time with the press going forward. Quite often during the week it also clashes with the news. Why don't they just agree a time like 7 or 8pm each evening....

You must be reading too much in to individual days figures so. this is not Coronation street laid on for entertainment either

Exactly, so we should be doing better than the U.S... but we're not. (so far)

Adjusting the numbers for relative population size, is certainly not pointless or useless as some are suggesting. Far from it... it's actually a very useful tool for analysis.
    In what way?

    Analysing what?

It isn't unreasonable that the figures be released at the same time everyday so everyone is aware if they wish to tune in....

Because they’ve more important things to be doing.

yep, it is important information, I doubt people would like it if they kept changing the time of the news.

edit For those telling me I should switch off. I have been switched off most of the day only came back on at 6

But the US will likely end up worse than us. At the start of an outbreak the size of the population probably doesn't make too much of a difference so 1 person goes on to infect 3 others who goes on to infect 3 more and so on. The size of the population comes into play when it comes to clusters that follow that pattern. If you have a big population your likely to have a lot more clusters so in time infect a lot more people.

    "Likely" ??

That sounds like yet more anti Trump/America wishful thinking...

Why are Brazil and Mexico (as just 2 examples) not exploding with cases? Huge populations, with a lot more poverty and a lot worse healthcare than the U.S... if your theory is correct?

Maybe it will be proven correct in time. Who really knows!?

I've said from the start, I don't think the death toll will be anywhere near as high in the U.S as many are predicting. They are quite a rich country overall, and have excellent healthcare generally right across the country!

I admire the way you can see the positive in every situation

As I said some of the things the HSE have been good, I think getting the PPE from China , granted there are problem was good, getting the message out about social distancing I think is working, all positive.

How anyone can look at the testings with thousand maybe tens of thousand awaiting weeks for results and the HSE constantly talking up the amount of tests, how can anyone say that is acceptable? I think only HSE and government cheerleaders could say it has been anything but a disappointment.

Hmm. That's actually a complex thing, so is it factored in to the models? So interesting.

If he helps in the area of healthcare, why does it matter if it’s spin? If he’s actually taking a physical risk with his own health (increased chances of getting it in a hospital environment) surely that’s a real leader getting their hands dirty and getting into the trenches with the soldiers?

I can think of a lot worse spin tactics used by parties, particularly spin that doesn’t put a politicians health at risk.

The Taoiseach is not running the country on his own, if he’s really helping out then it’s great. If all it does is increases the spirits of a lot of healthcare workers (the ones not completely cynical) then it’s a good thing.

Physical risk?? Can you catch Corona over the phone??

    2 questions
Do u think Brazil and Mexico have an up to date accurate count?
Do u think everyone in the US has excellent healthcare ?

He can use it to bash the FFers into compromise. FF will fear another election, they would get destroyed with a big photo of Leo in his scrubs fighting the virus on every poster, with Micky sitting at home wondering how not to be the firsts FF leader not be Tshock.

Sounds very like Leo. Picture in his scrubs before heading in to answer phones.

I hope so, the last thing you'd want is reports from around the country with 'Shouting' Thomas.

Well they should have, but it doesn't look like it:

It's a very odd thing to accuse someone of enjoying the suffering of others simply because they hinted at anxiety over waiting to hear how bad things are for them, their family and their country.

    It's very, very odd.
