    I presume he will be triaging the patients, assessing whether or not they require isolation and testing. At the moment, most GPs are doing telephone triaging. This job would be in line with his skillset in a previous life (GP).

    He is not giving up his day-job to exclusively do this. The article says that he is doing it one day per week.

    I am not a particular lover of politics. But credit where credit is due. He has trained for nearly 10 years in medicine (5 years in college, one year intern, 2 years on the GP scheme). Being a doctor is part of his identity. He has a set of skills, and is putting them to good use. I have friends who are coming back onto the register, after leaving. They want to put all those years of training to use. And if at least one patient benefits from those skills, fair play!

    The gesture means a lot! And it might encourage a few doctors to reregister with the IMC

    Why don’t you post here what you are doing to help the problem and allow people to assess that.

    He’s a Trained medical professional, if he can help in some way then let him. When all this passes and he’s back to the full time Gig then you can assess if it Was worthy of not.


    And it’s a damn side better than “you should be wearing masks but I’m not gonna” Tool that’s across the pond.

    At least by doing the one session per week, it will give him an insight into the reality on the ground and what medical professionals face on a daily basis. Thus, he will be able to make better informed decisions about the profession

    Couple of days ago I challenged the nonsense of comparing Ireland or anywhere else for that matter on the basis of relative populations.

    It's a nonsense because there are just too many disparate factors necessary to give weight to before even the crudest comparison could be made with any justification.

    Can't understand why people carry out and hold to theories based on such meaningless comparisons with such determination and passion.

    It might not be a bad idea for Leo to trench out here and see what's going on, he could make important decisions for healthcare workers based on seeing what's actually going on there.
    Fair play to him putting his shoulder to the wheel. I'd say he's sincere.

    The starting salary for a clerical officer is €24,104.

    The starting salary of a Garda is €23,750.

    I wouldn’t call either of those salaries too well paid.

    But you can imagine the cherry-picked ward he'll end up in, which will hardly be representative. Its quite conceivable he'll only just be a serious distraction from the normal business of the hospital
