Protect the minority of people who actually needed it, that's where the focus should have been.

Can you offer some back-of-the-envelope suggestions on how this might have been done without shutting everything down? Lots of vulnerable elderly live with children & grandchildren. How in practice could they be 'quarantined' in a watertight way while the rest of the household was going about their business and likely picking up the virus?

Paddy Cosgrave only caused needless worry and stress to those working on the frontline and also their families. What kind of kicks does he get out of it? Will be interesting to see if he'll apologise.

I would say there is about as much chance of Paddy Cosgrave producing a cure for Covid-19 as there is for him to apologise for this, or to stop his BS campaign.

Can't understand the extreme tight restrictions on funerals. If workplaces and supermarkets can manage to spread out crowds of people into acceptable distances, why can't the same be done in a large church or graveyard???

I'd imagine the risk is greater at the funeral of a person who has/potentially has died COVID19 related. Family & friends could be asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic carriers. Every action that has been taken is being risk assessed. My two cents.

I shudder to think what some household electricity bills will look like by end of April. Especially homes with lots of kids where the telly and game consoles will be running from the moment they wake up.

TVs and game consoles, consumer electronics generally are pretty low wattage, I wouldn't be concerned about those, maybe increased use of elec. showers, kettles & cookers for some people alright.

You would, unfortunately the reality is that they're up there with The Liberal.ie in terms of integrity with some of the scutter they put out.
One or two journalists look as if they are becoming increasingly vexed with the CMO's refusal to give up private data.

You're probably right. He seems to think that he speaks on behalf of us all, the little people.

Yep you can only do so many taps before you need to input your PIN for security reasons, otherwise someone who stole or found your card could do unlimited tapping fraud, makes sense, obviously a bit of a pain right now, just go to a shop that has proper hand sanitiser at the til and you'll be grand.

All relatively low power consumption compared to water boiling, heaters, ovens etc. An average large tv uses only around 50-100w of power. Smaller ones half of that. Game consoles 120-170w under load. Compared to say 2000w of a kettle and 700w of a washing machine.

Maybe there's a pigeon in the part of the vault where your account is, so they've had to close it for now until they catch it.

Just back on boards after a self-imposed break.. how I've missed it!!

    That is depressing. :(

That isn’t the number ICU now, I’m going to give up pointing out this constant misreporting at this stage.

He won't apologise. He doesnt care about anyone one else except his own self promotion. He doesn't/can't admit that his own F up caused issues across the board at his own exhibition, Instead he used his own position of "fame" or within the media eye to publicly blame other people, including being crass and attack individuals. All while not providing any "real world" potential solutions.

They can vex all they want, the CMO has serious integrity -

What do they have? - A proven track record of printing lies.

What would a microwave's consumption be like compared to a kettle?

Usually says it on the microwave itself. Around 800-1200 watts.

Pretty much anything that heats anything fast like kettles, microwaves, ovens, water boilers, washing machines, dryers, heaters are the main power consuming items in a home.

Modern lights, tv's, tablets, phones, consoles etc are very low in comparison.

Crazy how bad Spain is getting, doesnt look like itll be peaking for another while. It will have more cases than Italy by tomorrow and probably more deaths in about 72 hours

That isn’t the number ICU now, I’m going to give up pointing out this constant misreporting at this stage.

This has been made very clear. Dr Catherine Motherway warned that ICUs in Dublin are under significant pressure with 107 patients currently on ventilators while there are another 26 patients, with suspected coronavirus, in ICU beds.

    Where's the misreporting there?

So the numbers given of those in ICU due to the virus is not actually the current number, but the total since this crisis started? Is that correct?

How do you assume that? Italy's still about 3,500 ahead, Spain and Italy are adding close to the same numbers at the moment.

It's very clear certain posters in this thread don't venture outside too often themselves. Too busy monitoring their neighbours and curtain twitching.

They're in their element now. This is what they've been training for all this time.

Exactly and I truly believe that the further measures announce last Friday were as a result of these people putting pressure on government. We were doing OK with the measures that were in place. If you read back on the posts by some people last week they were assuring people that infections would go through the roof becuse too many people went out for a walk on a sunny spring day.

On Paddy Cosgrave, surely people shouldn't be surprised that someone who started something as pretentious as the web summit is an absolute gob****e

Report in Irish times now that current number in ICU now is 133.

As an aside, the terminology used by the HSE is confusing. Total Admitted in my eyes does not mean Total Currently in. They need more clarity.

Italy has recorded the most deaths in the country in one single month since WW2

wow that would be a day on day increase of 45/88 which would be 51% - I hope that's a typo and they mean 103

The benelux region is also now recording a similar number of deaths per capita as Italy and Spain

Nearly 400 deaths there today, it has a population which is about half of that of Spain/Italy

They broke it down. 107 on ventilators. 26 others also in intensive care.

The ICU figure is a mess. It alternates between being "current" and "cumulative" no one seems 100% sure as various sources claim either one interchangeably.
