Ohh so the public must be 'cocooned' from the dangerous over 70s

I thought it was the other way around !

Is she not capable of infecting other people?

My father in law used to go for a few pints almost every night, hes going a bit mad since the pubs closed, he wants to sow a vegetable garden, does anyone know where or how I can buy seeds?

I usually buy mine online. If he hurries he can still plant tomatoes, very easy to grow indoors or in a greenhouse.

Have the powers that be considered the effects of this 'house arrest without trial' on the over 70s.

They have a one in five chance of dying due to coronavirus.

What chance have they without fresh air and exercise... DVT risk, pulmonary embolism, depression etc. ?

Less than one in five ?

It has been established that they will be triaged and not get a critical care bed or a ventilator if they present to hospital, no matter how ill they are.

What is the point in enforcing this charade ?

I personally think that right now during this current lockdown that the elderly and vulnerable should do their bit like the rest of us to avoid it spreading to others, but after that it should be up to them if they want to be cocooned or not.

Some of the elderly vulnerable people do not have long left to live anyway, and it's not fair to deny them the chance to live out the rest of their days as normally as possible in the way that they choose.

Google seeds online Ireland for a start.

Deliveries are still happening. Best of luck.

Italian doctors issued a plea last week to other countries to try to treat as many cases as possible at home, to avoid hospital transmissions.

They also recommended setting up Covid 19 only medical centres similar to the "Fever Hospital" approach taken in London 200 years ago.

Infecting people by purposely not following guidelines because you simply don't want to is different than accidentally infecting people while adhering to good practice.

The virus doesn't discriminate. Try not to infect anyone if you can.

SARS was serious in China a few years back. As was bird flu. As was swine flu. Do you think that they similarly failed to get those under control. Perhaps they are still rampant in China and for some miraculous reason they aren't escaping the border......

In 2019 Swine flu ravaged China's economy and pork prices soared. It is still ongoing but it isn't contagious in people seemingly and is localized there.

SARS in 2003 was much easier to contain. It didn't have a long incubation period and wasn't as infectious as the new one.

How would people get food with all shops closed?

you refer to people staying in and isolating as a charade... How is self isolating for 2 weeks a charade ? The medical experts have said that the virus lasts for 2 weeks, so having most of the population self isolating for 2 weeks, will mean that the majority of the country will not get the virus, and those that have it will not be able to pass it on as they will hopefully have recovered by then... A lot of posters on here seem to relish the misery and sadness this virus brings, and will question anything that they are told by medical experts, it seems that a lot of posters here know a lot more than people who have spent a lifetime and career studying medicine.........

Just my opinion, but can't help but notice both the English and American midia are using bad news from other countries in regards to the outbreak to deflect from there own problems

HSE always give their briefing and quote international numbers directly after ours. Gives a nice comparison that not that bad here. Every country at the same ****.
    • Testing criteria
    • Post mortem testing
    • 2 day delay in reporting anatomised figures in order to "inform the family". Makes no sense as now there are so many cases in ICU that it is impossible to know.

It helps shape my opinion of people's attitudes and I will continue posting tweets and videos as I see fit to make my points.

There is an ignore button on the left. You don't have to view anything from me.

    Post and tweet away
Why would I put on ignore
I'm trying to reshape your opinion to the correct opinion
    Try this
Imagine thousands and thousands of miles of empty streets supermarkets parks towns and villages
    Ghost town after ghost town
Imagine a million of hours of it. You'll have to imagine it because nobody it going to post a video of something so boring
Then hold your 30secs of action next to it

Tip my hat to this man, who ran the distance of the London Marathon in his back garden.

    https://www.itv.com/news/london/2020-03-28/i-ve-trodden-down-all-the-grass-man-runs-marathon-in-garden-during-lockdown/

I managed 18000 steps (18k) myself pushing a lawnmower. Gonna smash the 20k with a little lockdown compliant and risk free run by myself later.

I have done online grocery shopping since 2012, I have never seen it so busy, for obvious reasons, but it seems the longterm customers of this service are being sacrificed with the wave of new people who signed up.
It is the longterm customers who made it a success and then we have a minister saying those of us who have used this service and made it a success if under 65 should go to the supermarket now. I know this sounds selfish but this service is there because of people who supported it in the quieter times and for many years, and I don't think we should be sacrificed for people under 65 who never used the service before.
It is like a rat race for time slots for deliveries now.

They need to be a little less strict on the alcohol side of things.

I just went to pick a 'collection' slot between 09:00-13:00 and wasn't allowed to have alcohol in my shop because they can't sell alcohol before 11am...

Sometimes with the elderly there is simply no reasoning, be it dementia or simple stubbornness. I had an issue with my father during the week. In the end I stopped arguing with him and took away his car keys.

No more so than anyone else who observes all the recommended mitigation tactics.

I'm following the guidelines. This woman isn't. Why is it nasty to question that? Please explain.

You asked, sarcastically, how many people has she infected. That's a mean uncalled for comment.

    Demean the poster... nice tactic.

How about answering any of the questions ?

    Your questions were nonsensical.

Do you not think the pros and cons of cocooning have been considered before the decision was made to adopt this strategy?

Also, when this is over, there will be such a backlog of demand on HSE services that it may be especially useful to have private health cover.
There's going to be a pretty big backlog across the board. I currently have 2, possibly 3, issues I would normally be progressing through PHI. I'm sitting it out which is entirely right in the current circumstances. They are all chronic rather than acute issues and another 6-12 months will be inconvenient but unlikely to kill me (AFAIK, but I'm not a doctor:pac:)

I was thinking it would be a fun time for a social experiment. Close all off license and alcohol sales in supermarkets. See how the country fairs out.

It might be worth phoning your GP again. I have asthma. It's a bitch without inhalers but not noticeable with them. Did they prescribe inhalers or other treatment for the asthma?

Have an inhaler. Getting better at using it :) Helps alright but still breathing is quite laboured.
Coughing up clear phlegm. Think that is that normal for asthma?

Even simple things like loading dishwasher am puffed out afterwards.

Whatever caused it is nasty. If Covid the virus is probably gone so would pass test at this stage. Hopefully antibody tests to come soon.

When did we know that? Didn't hear anyone talking about it until January.

Bill Gates predicted it 5 years ago.
