Can somebody explain if & why a drive would be against current guidelines?

I.e. getting in the car at the house, driving and not leaving the car until returning home.

People have been driving to beaches etc.
Of course your scenario poses little threat, but they can't create many rules for every situation.
The message is STAY AT HOME.

So you have a problem with someone telling you to do something which might save your life or that of your nearest and dearest?
No one is stopping you from throwing yourself under a truck passing your door, try that if you feel like taking a risk.

Are the "lockdown" cohort on here finally satisfied?

I certainly am, it might finally knock some sense into my mid 70's mother who refuses to see the seriousness of the situation and is out gallivanting daily. I tried everything short of tying her to a chair, after the announcement tonight it seems to be finally sinking in.

How will it be over though? This virus doesn't just disappear.

Once restrictions are eased, do you think the virus will complement us on our measures and be on its way?

No, we may have a year of on and off restrictions until the vaccine.

That said testing would help. Get everybody tested.

From one runner to another runner I hope you get a good belt of the baton for going outside 2km.

Listen and adhere to the advice you entitled ignoramus.

Are you complying as a runner?
Why - because you were told and no other reason? Because that would be something an ignoramus would do.

Good question and I don’t have a great answer. But I deeply believe MMT is just a way to kick the can down the road and make the problem even bigger. At some point we’ll have to go through a lot of pain and probably a reset in the financial system.

Precisely what I believe too. The current economic downturn will be exacerbated by the 2008 hangover. A reset will be needed one day.

No steps are too far to save lives, nobody will care about their inconvenience in a few weeks but death is permanent.

Actually , that’s stuff and nonsense , because if humanity really believed that , there’d be no cars , and lighting fires would be banned , not to mention mechanised farming and fishing

There is absolutely a “ value” but on human life and we balance that “ vs,use” every day

Just you and yours, yes? Everyone else staying at home?
That would be fine. Of course!

Go and have a chat with yourself, will you?

Family member died overnight. Had been having breathing difficulties. Will be waiting a few days for results. Had pre-existing conditions. It's getting real, I won't be seeing a lot of people for a decent amount of time now.

I really really feel for them it’s everything taken away from them. Even more so for the older people without families to look in on them :(

A grim day has seen the number of deaths in the last 24 hours in Italy revised up to 969 from 917 earlier which was first reported.

The growth in cases going to ICU is not as quick though.

Stay 2m+ from each other and we'll be A1.:) My keeping within a 2km radius does nothing. I won't be complying. There is no virtue in blindly accepting instruction without rationale. The 2m convention however is scientifically backed.

I don’t know what I’m more incredulous of, your level of absolute tone deafness or the fact that you clearly have an ego the size of the sun.

As you said QE causes inflation in assets prices, because the printed money is injected in the financial economy. I.e. inflation is where the money is injected.

With helicopter money, the goal is to inject money in the real economy rather than the financial economy, and thus it will cause consumer prices inflation rather than asset price inflation. That inflation will be particularly visible in constrained spendings such as essential consumer goods and rents (rents is a big one as there will be more money competing for the same constrained supply of rental properties, and more money chasing a finite and essential ressource logically leads to inflation).

Any QE has to go directly to the people this time.

Polling numbers for a president during a crisis do tend to improve.
George W Bush approval rating jumped 40 odd points during 9/11.
I wouldn't read too much into polls atm.
The numbers in US are totally soaring especially in New York and Trump is already keen to lift restrictions.
