    This is an honest question...

If this was 1990 and there was no social media... would corona virus be a mere footnote on Page 11 of a newspaper??

Would have been noted as a bit of a spike in flu deaths in 2020, and we'd have moved on.

So, are takeaway food businesses closing? I have no idea if I'm working tomorrow now.

I think Leo said you can leave your house to collect a meal. I'm assuming that means that take-aways can remain open?

I work in a medical device factory, do you think that will be classed as essential or will it be shut on Monday?

2km in this rural area is very restrictive. I know we can do the weekly shopping but simple things for older people, like a daily newspaper, requires 5km or more to the local shop.

Dead right, we don't need any more PPE or other daft essential equipment flown in. Socks wrapped around the faces of our medics is good enough for them and their notions.

Jesus Christ, the stats are readily available as to how it's being passed on, have a read.

    Passenger flights.

Am I reading it correctly that two adults from the same household can't walk or jog together? (within 2km of their own house)

    Yes.

Not that simple. Exercise might be part of somebody’s routine as advised by a GP, consultant etc for certain conditions (cardiovascular etc).

Do you know what else might be part of their health routine? NOT catching this.

How much you want to be there's going to be massive public order incidents in the usual Dublin spots over the weekend. RIP Lidl.

Why are they not closing the f*cking airports? Shut the place down.

What is this obsession with airports! Vital supplies come in and out of airports every single hour of every single day. Thousands of people in this country have this now. The odd flight bringing essential supplies or returning Irish citizens is not going to make any difference

So NO ONE is to go to work now unless it's for essential public work and public transport is only for essential public workers?

    Is that correct?

It's an arbitrary recommendation and a request. Now is the time for the Irish people to show their true calibre. Majority compliance will be a win.

We can do this, stay home or 2km from your home when necessary, let's save lives, flatten not fatten the curve

I’ve been ordered by the Taoiseach to stay indoors for two weeks. That’s a sentence I never thought I’d type!

Pretty sure they’ll stay open. Leo said they’re an essential service a few days ago for people who cant get to supermarket or cook etc.

Again, 2km radius was only mentioned for exercise etc and not for other essential needs. I stand to be corrected but from what was said in the briefing thats what I picked up.

Quite a measured response and let's be honest, this is quite likely the start of the 12 week lock down that was alluded to by the UK when they outlined their cocooning strategy.

That a government led by our right of centre, business and LL friendly party has taken the steps needed.
That the citizen has been put squarely before the economy is a brave and forthright step.

Yes lockdown could have come sooner, and indeed my own posts in earlier threads will show that I believe it could have.

It's easy for me to say lock it up, It's not so easy for Government when the ability to pay for that lockdown needs a stable economic outlook.
Brave action, strong leadership and I am sorry we have not seen this side of FG earlier in their tenure.

To everyone here, stay safe, stay healthy and above all else...
    Stay the fúck at home!

It's till midnight? My family have a place in West Cork it's okay to head there tonight so I presume? Better to be in lockdown by a beach rather in the city I think. Thank goodness I didn't have a glass of wine this evening

Don’t know how the airports are staying open makes this 2 weeks pointless if passengers are still coming in. Cargo etc is fine

Where are passengers coming in from? Irish people being repatriated maybe, but there are no tourists landing wondering what is going on. The whole world is at a standstill due to this.
