Seems all the celebrities, sportsmen politicians etc get a mild firm of this or the get a miracle drug that stops them getting really I'll. Something not quite right here.

    1. They are either rich or very well off - and have their own private doctors.
Therefore they are testing for the virus constantly - and thus, the minute they get a positive , their private medical staff swing into action big time. Hence "mild symptoms"

    2. Joe Bloggs only gets the test by the time they arrive at the emergency room, with full on covid19 pneumonia, and has to be shoved onto a ventilator , if one is even available.

That would be my , hopefully reasonable, explanation as to what is going on here.

Spain is under a far more severe lockdown than we are. Maybe something along those lines?

Do you mean the way street patrols check why people are out of their homes?
I really do not see it coming to that here.
For starters, we are embarrassingly lenient with anti social behaviour. Imagine trying to manage a lockdown like that in certain estates around the country? I may be totally wrong (and very open to admitting that) but I imagine this scenario will be avoided at all costs.

Probably the biggest issue left now is what is considered 'non essential'. For example, phone shops, vape shops and dealz etc are all still open.

Does anyone know, how many are in ICU in Northern Ireland ?
Surely if Ireland is under pressure for ICU beds, some patients can be taken by Northern Ireland and/or somewhere else in the UK ?

At that stage they are projected to be worse off than we are in terms of beds.

How much more locked down can we get, really?

we are nowhere near the lockdown of france, italy, spain and the UK just off the top of my head. people are still free to go where they want and there is no gardai or army enforcing it. supermarkets have zero restrictions and huge amounts of people are still going to work.

Maybe one of the DoH officials is unwell causing them all to go into isolation

Safest thing to do is cancel the briefing

I am surprised that no elite person has actually died from it. I try not to feed the conspiracy theoretic part of me but nothing surprises me anymore

Why would you be, only 9 people out of 10k under 40 have died. If your fit and youngish the chances of dieing are tiny. If your elite even further again.

Testing has been a total farce but they cant even seem to report on ICU capacity in a sane manner now either.

What difference does it make to the day to day life of people?

Whether the cases are 50 or 5000, the instructions are the same. Stay home, go out only when necessary.

They are numerous offices open that don't need to be open, because some bosses don't grasp how serious this is. Start there firstly.

Also building sites need to be closed Asap.

But I was of the impression that very little can be done to change the course of the disease. It's viral (which you can't really treat apart from with unproven drugs like Remdesivir) and then you get the excessive immune response. Which again, I'm not aware of much that can be done for that.
That's why I thought you'd see more high profile (especially elderly) people dying.

They're too cowardly to come out and say they can't handle it anymore.

Really ? That’s worrying. I guess no news is good news.

We're on the curve and it isn't as sharp as we thought it was going to be at this stage.

    Need to keep pressing on.

Can anyone explain why Australia are doing so well?

    Ireland (NI+ROI) - 35 deaths
    Australia - 13 deaths

I've noticed daytime temperatures range between 25C in Sydney and 40C in Alice Springs at the moment, wonder if the weather is helping this. Ireland's never going to hit those temperatures this summer anyway mind.

I think longer daylight hours (regardless of temperature) is supposed to help, but I don't think anybody knows what impact this will have on the coronavirus, if at all.

If every death in the East occurred in Dublin, then yes, it would be. Dublin's 900+ cases compares to NI's 275.

from another poster in the thread earlier, it's been cancelled apparently.

Another poster mentioned that Leo is due to make a statement instead ( but no source link was given.)

Other posters are therefore predicting far a more rigorous lock-down , Spanish style.

I don't predict a Spanish style lock-down ( let's be honest - the auld Spanish police do like a bit of Fascism when they get a chance) - i think it'll be more like the British approach..

"please go home.. please... or else i'll fine you £30"

it'll be just enough of a threat, without becoming all Spanish Franco Police..
