    yet another potential Darwin Award

Tennessee woman gets coronavirus after bragging about not social distancing

A 21-year-old Tennessee woman who bragged on social media about not taking the coronavirus outbreak seriously has been diagnosed with the deadly illness, according to a report.

Ireland Tate joked about not following instructions to stay home and practice social distancing amid the pandemic just days before she fell sick, news station WZTV reported.

In a social media video, the Nashville resident told her followers that she’s “aware that we’re supposed to be self-quarantining and social distancing” to “keep everyone safe” — but that she wasn’t worried.

“Cool. I get it. I just don’t think that I’m going to get the virus,” Tate said in the video.

But just days later, Tate found herself suffering from symptoms associated with the dangerous bug and tested positive.

    Stupid ****

8:45 press conference is cancelled. No reason given to the media.

My guess is the nanny state leaders don't want to give out the bad news in case people starting panicking.

One wonders how China got this under control so quick when other no European countries could, they didn't even go through a prolonged flattening phase, it's was down as quickly as it was up. Miraculous really.

    By extreme totalitarian force.

I'm not exaggerating by saying that China has a system of concentration camps - you don't play ball, then off to the Gulag with you.

Not really... they put draconian quarantine measures in place when they had just over 400 cases and very few deaths... and it worked.

The virus had no one else to infect and died out.

They're too cowardly to come out and say they can't handle it anymore.

I'd imagine its they've better things to be doing than answering the same questions as every night for an hour.

I'd much rather 2 or 3 press briefings a week and to let them get on with their work.

They're too cowardly to come out and say they can't handle it anymore.

The pressure became overwhelming and they packed it in. Everyone for themselves now, keep an eye out for a fleet of rogue JCBs.

You're away with the fairies if you genuinely believe that.

Are they going to announce lockdown?

Can anyone explain why Australia are doing so well?

    Ireland (NI+ROI) - 35 deaths
    Australia - 13 deaths

I've noticed daytime temperatures range between 25C in Sydney and 40C in Alice Springs at the moment, wonder if the weather is helping this. Ireland's never going to hit those temperatures this summer anyway mind.

Its like they are trying to cover up something but theres nothing to cover up why are they fudging this no more than the ridiculously vague details they gave out?

Like 59 on Wednesay, well 13 have died since then but its highly unlikely theres only 46 in ICU now....so whats the point in 2 day old figures?
All they have to do is give the current no of patients in ICU. The current no of patients in ICU with Covid-19. The total cumulative no of patients in ICU to date with Covid-19 and whether those no longer in ICU have recovered or died.

Incredibly patronizing to tell everyone to flatten the curve and then not provide any meaningful figures at all. The confirmed cases figure I suspect is a joke as well. Are they collating figures here from different test dates? What with different waiting times for results between different testing location; triage of testing based on urgency? There is no proper context to these figures at all.

And why isn't the Irish media asking these questions?

Seems all the celebrities, sportsmen politicians etc get a mild form of this or they get a miracle drug that stops them getting really Ill. Something not quite right here.

    Where you getting them figures.

My own limited attempt at predicting where this is going.

As mentioned in a later post, you would need to subtract deaths and discharges from ICU to get a more accurate number for Covid 19 patients in currently in ICU.
However there are also non-Covid patients in ICU that should be added.

The day on day averages in my estimates predicted 58 -66 (best-worst case) numbers for today, so I think the projections for 1st and 4th of April still hold.
Also, anyone being admitted to ICU now, is likely to be still there on the 1st and probably the 4th.
I've read that the length of time in ICU is very long for Covid 19 patients.

Spain is under a far more severe lockdown than we are. Maybe something along those lines?

Testing has been a total farce but they cant even seem to report on ICU capacity in a sane manner now either.

China saw huge exponential growth daily for 3 weeks despite completing locking down Hubei province.

No European country has undertaken the severe measures to counter the spread that China did so flattening the curve will likely take longer.
