It is no surprise that people in responsible positions are contracting it...They are always near people.

I'm sorry I have to admit I LOL'd when the RTE alert came in about BoJo.

The irony of it all is unreal.

    CoJo?

Or like I was saying, this could be way way more widespread than is currently thought.

Which is a good thing because it means a lot of people have it with no symptoms or mild symptoms thus meaning the virus is much less lethal

Glad you think someone having the virus is funny.

I wish him all the best and hope he fights off this terrible illness.

If that's Boris then it kind of is...

Boris isolating with the girlfriend...could have some more fighting over the laptop headlines.

Without Googling, you can probably name less than 10 famous people who have it - some of whom are to me, famous only for having Coronavirus. I had never heard of some of them before - wouldn't have been able to identify Idris Elba out of a lineup before his Covid case!

Plus the likes of Johnson and Prince Charles just would probably never have been tested but for who they are

    You mean David Harewood?

Why, how many famous people are there?

The likes of Boris would have more contacts per day than the average, so it doesn't surprise me.

He was in a packed Westminster Abbey a couple of weeks ago along with Prince Charles.

Mass community testing in South KOrea, Iceland etc has shown that its not

At the same time I'd doubt he is pushing and barging himself through throngs to get onto the Tube or bus.

It's Miriam O'Callaghan presenting the Late Late Show

It'll be just like an extended episode of Prime Time on a Friday night in a spankier studio

Could have been worse I suppose - they might have had guests talking to Joe!

Except more high profile political leaders to contact the virus. Virtually impossible for them to maintain effective social distancing in their line of work. And it's not Iike they can walk around wearing ppe either.

Boris did look wrecked in the last few press conferences, like he'd been up 48 hours straight.

It was an illegal market. The local party and medical chiefs were sacked.

Once they recognised the potential scale of this they acted fast and likely saved millions of lives in China.

And they gave the rest of the world a lesson on how it can be beaten. Its a pity western governments didn't take heed rather than burying their heads in the sand and hoping it would go away while giving out about doomsayers.

And there's still a large number of heads in the sand.

I mean they also villified the doctor who first started treating it like a big deal. They initially went into cover up mode and only broke when they realised they couldn't contain it. They probably stuck their heads deeper into he sands than anyone else initially.

A point I've been trying to make but people would rather believe it's Ebola Mk.2. For some, it's the only way to mentally deal with everything falling apart.

We all need some good news.

Maybe rte will just have a movie(maybe a comedy) after the news?
Perhaps that would be better than an overpaid muppet explaining to the country how kind we should be, and then talking about death and misery for 2-3 hours.

COVID-19 loves politicians, particularly incompetent ones. : o

We just need the big orange orangutan in Washington DC to catch it now, or even Easter week for some really beautiful beautiful irony :pac:

At the time of testing they had no symptoms. Maybe they wont show, but just because they didnt when they were tested doesnt mean they wouldnt develop

Sorry by "it" I mean the show. Not Ryan. :)

It has never not aired an episode when it was supposed to.

Gerry Ryan filled in for Pat.

    Contact your GP.

I would expect the virus will still be in your system when you experience symptoms.

Thank you, yes I contacted GP yesterday and have an appointment to be tested tomorrow morning.

It's an interesting one, since I've had a dry cough for 6+ weeks and then I got the other symptoms on Paddy's day (4-5 days after last exposure) which were worse (but not debilitating).. I don't know if it will still be in my system.

As a point of interest, the person I was in a lot of contact with had it and was tested positive on a Monday and a week later got give the result, tested again immediately and was negative. So I guess they were coming to the end of the virus being in their system when they were first tested.
I'm not aware of a definitive source, as there's so much new research being published constantly, but the generally accepted position seems to be that you're contagious for 7-14 days after symptoms, assuming your condition does not become very serious, in which case it lasts longer.

The test will probably pick up viral RNA for some time after you've stopped being contagious, but I don't know how long that lasts. Depends on how long viral RNA remains intact in your nose once the capid/envelope stops being viable.

Thank you for this info. I have been trawling through what I can find but it's all over the place.
