So schools etc. closed two weeks now, should we not see benefits now in the next few days? Why are they still saying we will see a huge wave coming (setting up morgues etc.). Is that due to it being in community so long? When should we see the benefit?

People are still out and about. I have seen nothing anywhere saying that 2 weeks is the exact cut off, I have heard anecdotally 3 to 4 weeks in could asymptomatic, this is far from over. Fail to prepare, prepare to fail. Look at the mega powers either side of us and the shambles they are in.

    ****ing hell...

The absolute pettiness on the last two pages...

    "You went for pints"
    "Yeah well, it wasn't crowded"
"You went for pints on the 15th, no one will forget that!"

Hopefully, doesn't it take for up to two weeks for symptoms to show?

No, 50% of cases show symptoms within 5 days, and the % goes up rapidly with very few being asymptomatic by 14 days.

Depends what they mean by huge wave.

Personally, I do not see this hitting 15,000 cases by Tuesday

That's not really it. More like:

    "This is the government's fault"
"You ignored government advice and tried to downplay the risk"
    "No I didn't"
    *LINK*

This this the kind of nonsense we're going to see a lot more of as things get worse, and I don't think it's petty to call it out.

Sorry, but people like that need to be called out. Be it online or outside!

Just heard this morning a lad from our estate is in a high dependency unit in hospital with the virus. He was out and about in Dublin city centre drinking in the pubs in the lead up to the closure and was diagnosed last Saturday with Covid19 according to my neighbour. He's only in his mid 20's also and i am unaware of any underlying health conditions he may have. Thought it was a bit strange not seeing him or his family out and about because they have 2 dogs which they frequently walk but obvious now they all in self isolation. Unsure if high dependency means ICU or not that's all the info iv'e been told at the minute.

This is very sad, hopefully he will be okay.

I'd be willing to bet quite a few people who have lives will forget that.

When did I describe the 15th as a Christmas Eve vibe?? Ye lads are tying yourself in knots trying to get one up on me. Such anger for calling out Simple Simon and Leo Varadkardashian.

What ever about your bullshít wind up act, the bolded part is a much truer reflection of you as a person.

We are already seeking the benefits.

Any day that the hospitals are not over run, and doctors have to choose who lives or dies, is a good day. We do not want to be Italy.

There is a reason it's referred to flattening the curve

China now banning all but the bare minimum of flights into the country to prevent a second wave of infections. Showing decisive leadership again.

Coronavirus seems like it is the extent of life for a lot of people on here right now. Very unhealthy I think

Yeh, imagine the poor punters that have to listen to him in the pub after a few pints.

I'd say half the people leave when he comes in.

If it's not corona virus it would be something else. These are internet people.

Guys, I don't know who the poster is. If I'm honest, I seen some of his posts on a topic before and the poster hadn't a notion. He got his knowledge from the tabloids. Sorry if that offends said poster but, it's the truth.

If you are ragging on him for not taking it seriously, fair enough. I think the majority are guilty of that, even to some very small degree.

But, if you are ragging on him for going for a pint, personally I'd drop that angle. That's very petty and comes across as "Well I was a good boy, were you?" in my opinion

The poster is 100% correct. The Government and HSE both said no gatherings of more than 100 people indoors, then 50 and then they changed their minds on the Sunday/Monday.

Either way, that was two weeks ago. The here and now is more important

Do you know how long it takes in general for people to have reduced their viral load enough to pass the PCR tests?

Can't find any info on this.

But theres no endgame, the country will need to stay isolated from all others for at least a year if not more.

You're a great bunch of heros calling out people on their behaviour. Not attacking the poster personally at all.

The goalposts aren't even on the pitch anymore with this post.

You went for pints on the afternoon of the 15th, posted here at about 5 o'clock saying you were just back from the pub.

But now that you've been caught out, it's all changed. **** off hahaha

Nothing has changed. I was in the pub on the 15th. The only thing I've said is that it was the night before that had the Xmas eve vibe.

It's not the same as ICU, but it's also not good. I think it's like 2 nurses per patient, whereas ICU is 1:1. He's in with a good shot of getting through it, but he must be in a bad way all the same. Poor fella, hope he clears it soon.

Someone who disregarded government advice on Covid is now blaming the outbreak on the government. I think that's a legitimate point of discussion on the Covid-19 thread.

Call a moderator if you disagree, by all means.

Is all of this going on in your head??

It is sad but someone like him could have spread it to dozens of people on a night out.

What's sadder is they may have brought it home it to people doing their best to not spread/get infected.

Which is all well and good until you get to the part where he's blaming the government for the spread in Ireland, and flagging up Leo's ethnicity as a relevant part of the discussion.

As you say, lots of people underestimated this thing, but most of them have the decency to keep their heads down.
