Today's deaths show the trouble of getting into nursing homes. That is something that has to be stopped at all costs.

There may be a specific reason for such a spike. Wasn't a nursing home infected?

But it shows how serious this is and any piece of scum that spits or coughs at anyone should have a minimum sentence applied

Attempted homicide. Teenagers tried as adults, as per.

at 2k tests a day no f*cking way are they all recorded. The temp morgues are an indication of how the sh*t is about to hit the fan

    scaremongering rubbish.
we are putting these in place as worst case scenario

the death rate has jumped with median age from 44 last week to 79 this week

its obvious the nursing homes infections are going to skew death numbers up and median age

Overall cases are somewhat pointless since they are now only testing those basically guaranteed to have it

Community transmissions wont be recorded until they are in hospital.

No. No one person's life is. Selfish western way of thinking. If everyone's child is more important than the next, where do we end up?

See, that's where you have it all wrong. It's not "everyone's child is more important than the next", it's "EVERYONE is more important than money".

Men far more susceptible and have higher death rate than women. This is seen in nearly every country.

More susceptible as of historically been the worker of the house and been out in poor air work environment I wonder..?

Nursing homes are going to fall out of favour, but they must be better regulated. Thorough scrub downs.

And Holohan was against the homes closing the doors at the start.

I'd presume there's some other underlying reason, don't know what though....?

man flu is not just a joke, women fight off all flu better, to do with hormones and x chromosomes

Yeah the team should really stop everything they're doing irrespective of importance because lads on boards are losing their mind that they're not getting their infection fix when they expect it. Ffs get a grip.

Im sorry, but one human life is not more important, no.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news even if you could do what you like here (which will not happen) you be going nowhere outside our border as

    A) Others will stay with there airports closed
    B) No one will allow an Irish person in when our cases skyrocket

Also have you taken in to account what this will do to our hospitals and the people (other then CoVid 19 patients) who will need ICU but will not be able to get it as you could not deal with a little discomfort

We’re seeing now why it was so deadly in a country like Italy with such an older population. If you’re at risk this kills

New cases aren’t going up that much.

    Stay inside.
Stay away from at risk people.

We’re going all the right things!

I've been in China throughout this whole thing, and what I keep thinking of is when I was a young lad I remember the campaigns about 1) preventing drink driving and 2) wearing your seatbelt while driving. Both of these things became social issues for the greater good, and eventually, from being a norm, there was a social stigma attached to flouting these laws. The same thing needs to happen with this outbreak. You, personally, may not kill someone, but if you contribute to a culture where this is the norm then you are partly responsible for the deaths of vulnerable people in Irish society. The sooner you can grow beyond the denial of this, the better.

Please stay indoors, wear your PPE if you absolutely have to go out. Do not go out unless it's absolutely necessary, and practice all the good behaviours that are broad knowledge by now (masks, washing hands, etc). You have no idea how many people have seemingly died here in China. Nobody really knows the true figures, but forget the official numbers of dead/infected, I would say multiply by 15-25 to get anywhere near reality. I personally know of 5 people who died, and I don't live in Wuhan or have any connection to it, so the official numbers are not even worth looking at.

China ignored the existence of this virus for weeks, and have been criticised for it. European "leaders" have done exactly the same thing, adopting a "cross your fingers" approach when it's been obvious since late January that this was coming. I'm proud that Ireland has done more to combat the spread than other European countries, and the rate of infections & deaths in our country compared to others is beginning to show that. However, the virus is spreading across the country, and everybody needs to take personal responsibility for stopping it.

Regarding the virus here, it's obvious to everyone that China doesn't care about human rights, and yes, that is a highly effective approach to a viral outbreak like this. Can that approach be adopted in Europe? No it can't. In Europe we believe that people are capable of taking individual responsibility, which is not the case in China. Please prove us right!

(to eliminate one other rumour I saw: no, there is no mass vaccination process underway in China, that doesn't exist)

    Why?

Because there’s people going out every day (or night) and walking into an invisible danger. And they are doing it so they can care for and save the likes of you and I.

There’s also the likes of you and I who may be stuck indoors not knowing when this will end and leaning out a window or standing in your doorway and clapping and waving along with others like you and I is a sign of solidarity.

    Keep it going I say.
