Given the new testing criteria is it safe to say that the official number of cases is going to be almost completely useless?

Death rate in Bergamo currently, blue line the average death rate in the city. Green is already confirmed coronavirus deaths. Would strongly suggest that the theory that coronavirus has been widespread in the Italy/Europe for a long time is not true

If half the population of the entire USA was wiped out it wouldn't bother Trump as long as they were not in his voter base. The man is a complete moron and needs to be removed from all decision making now.

Can we wait until he gets some of those treatment drugs into circulation first, before we "remove" him?

    Could come in handy! ;)

It would be ironic if Trump actually managed to get drugs onto the market, that might help us fight this battle... but I sense he'd still get no credit for it.

    44 in ICU

Would many of them be made up of people from the care home in the east and the geriatric hospital in the south?

No, it should mean they get fewer negatives, and it does mean that comparison with past numbers comes with a giant caveat about the sampling method, but the numbers will still be meaningful. They may increase as a result, since they'll be able to test larger numbers of people who are more likely to be positive.

Yes. They were always pointless really.

So are we looking like we're gonna be okay overall?
I haven't seen any massive surges in our figures, thankfully! Does this mean we're probably going to be okay if we continue to maintain social distancing and stay at home unless essential?
Or does it just mean we haven't really started to see the impact yet?
It's a mental rollercoaster tbh, something's I read seem really positive. Then others are grim! I don't know what way to think or feel at all.

You do know that hydroxychloroquine (which DT was trumpeting) has been around for years, don't you?

I'd say we'll need another week or two before any dip (if it comes) ever comes. And that's assuming this semi-lockdown continues.

yes but about 123k recovered and 23k died,so about 365k active cases

Bear in mind it has a 14 day incubation period, so the lockdown results may only be seen in next few days. The current cases could well be result of activity a couple of weeks ago or more.

Is that Bergamo the region, or the city? Deaths from covid seem to have dropped sharply. Getting a grip on it there it seems.

The reporting figures don't make much sense. A percentage based result would be better. IE: X number of cases out of Y number of tests = Z percentage. Having different numbers if tests per day will skew figures both good and bad.

I'm not sure, the article just said 'Bergamo'

Only 13 of those in ICU are aged 65+ so no.

    For malaria... not for covid19.

But he is putting pressure on the right people, to make quick decisions over its use here. I think he deserve credit for this.

Until we get a breakdown of figures (assuming we do at all) nobody can say for sure.

There is a daily break down of age groups released by the HPSC.

    https://www.hpsc.ie/a-z/respiratory/coronavirus/novelcoronavirus/casesinireland/

See page 7 of the Epidemiology report.

It's already been used for treatment. It's just an off-label use.

New infections and deaths are stabilising. Bear in mind that deaths are likely to occur a couple of weeks after infection so there's a lag between lock down and results.
Also deaths are falling in the north and moving south.

The lockdown is starting to plateau their graph.

Although they are so far gone.

There's no "just" about off label use. They're a specially-monitored class of cases in pharmacovigilance, on account of the higher risks.

I'm all for not dropping our guard for one moment but a week ago we were being told that we could have 15,000 cases by the last day of March, worse case scenario at this point would be less than half that, if they are now telling us a surge is due and it fails to materialise people might start to ignore further warnings.
