Are you doing video calls with people? Finding that is both enjoyable and necessary all round.

I am, but I should probably do a bit more of it. I have a video counselling session today too so hopefully that helps.

Absolutely, the polls suggest that large percentages of people (Trump voters) still believe this isn't as bad as it seems.

So when Trump dribbles out nonsense large swathes of people believe him, which means large amounts of people will get sick and die.

    He is a dangerous dotard.

IIRC that's how South Korea got into the mess it's in!

South Korea are noted as been the most successful country at handling the covid crisis. So what ever you mean by "the mess its in" is beyond me. You would think as a moderator you would try and be a little more factual

I believe that is in reference to that cult church as 5000 cases came out of that.

Apparently A&E in hospitals are very quiet, people have not stopped having strokes, heart attacks, cellulitis, accidents and the like so where have they all gone?

People having medical emergencies are still attending.
There is a huge drop in those self referring to A+E.
There is also a huge drop in GP and nursing home referrals.

The flip side is, that some people who should genuinely attend A+E aren't attending and there may be when the numbers are crunched after this a concurrent rise in non Covid-19 related mortality.

It does give an indication however, of how much actual primary care is needed in Ireland.
A+E has for far too long been a catch all, where everyone ends up from minor ailments through to serious medical emergency.

    Just got call from Supervalue.

Waiting 2 weeks for a delivery of food.

Got told they can't make the delivery. Only 2 people in today.

I said, "what am I supposed to do the fridge is empty"

Sorry I'm just making the call.

    Good luck everyone.

I usually online shop, no slots for 2 months. So I am going to the supermarket.Has to be done. You have to eat, be practical about it.

A lot of the cancelled routine operations is freeing up additional resources that support A&E and is clearing backlog.

    Prior to covid 19 crisis

1)Person collapses and hits their head

    2)Abulance called go to a&e

3)We don't know why you fell but its important you don't leave here without a scan

    4)Go to trolley

5)Be classified as a non urgent case

    6)Wait 8 days

    7)Get a ct scan

Now while 1-3 is the same, steps 4-7 is replaced by

4)As all routine scans have been cancelled you can get a scan today.

and, as the previous poster has already highlighted:
In the Netherlands there is an outright ban on forming groups of more than 2 people in a public space.

In Ireland groups of 4 have been allowed.

    2 < 4 -> Dutch are more stringent.

Just because a mayor of a town in Italy or Belgium says something doesn't make it the case. Plenty of politicians talk nonsense or provide a soundbite to get their name into the media.

Of course this would not be required if we properly funded the defence forces and they had even one heavy lift aircraft.

    A national embarrassment.

How would one Defense forces heavy lift aircraft do 6 daily rotations to China?
How many crews do you think it would take to crew this operation?

A national embarrassment would be the waste of resources having enough heavy lift aircraft and crews at the ready to undertake this mission.

I assume this must be in the east/dublin? I got a SV delivery yesterday and another booked for Monday and will book another for the end of next week in the next day or two. Pretty much full availably of slots from Wednesday onwards.

I checked Tesco alright and thats a total block booked but I normally shop in SV so I'm happy enough.

As others have said though (to the other poster), local GAA or other people in the area will surely be able to sort you out.

Docarch doesn't mod this forum. As such he is free to be as much an uninformed idiot as anyone else.

That said given that the majority of Korean cases can be traced to a superspreader at a big church thing I do feel he did make a serious point.

I don't think we need a heavy lift aircraft. In fairness though, every time ther is a national disaster / terrorism etc we are heavily dependent on the RAF/ British foreign office to get people out.

    Libya?

I don't think are Lingus would be so generous with their fleet if air travel wasn't so badly hit.

It's a win win for shareholders and the public.

That's the mess I was referring too. If it was not for that church, South Korea would be in a much better place dealing with the virus than it is.

I remember reading an article a couple of weeks ago they had traced something like 1,300 cases back to one person who was at the church.

    Deaths per 1 million people:
    Italy - 124
    Spain - 74
    Iran - 25
    Holland -21
    France - 20
    Switerland - 81
    Belgium - 15
    UK - 6
    USA - 3
    Ireland - 2
    Canada - 0.8

Relatively speaking for their population the USA have done well so far. If they had the same rate as Italy they would be on 41,000 deaths by now.

You aren't taking into account population density or size. This virus is spread by community person to person spread. You cannot compare Ireland to most if not all of the countries on this list.

i've seen footage from one American mega-church, where the pastor is literally saying "Jesus will protect you".

Looks like Easter will be ground zero for another mass pandemic outbreak in America, on New York City levels.

    Get out to where?

A walk, social distancing does not mean you need to cloister yourself.

It means that you keep a safe distance, and keep aware.

You can leave your home, take a walk, jog, have a run.

In Limerick City, I am still quite fond of walking the 3 bridges or the Condell Rd.

You don't need to actually go anywhere special, even a circuit or 2 of your local park just to stretch your legs and dissipate some energy.

Also, things are going to really take off in the US over the next week, hospitals have mostly been able to cope up to now

You can't count a test if you haven't processed. Otherwise its counted as a zero test. i.e what's the ****ing point of sticking something down your throat.

Isn't our testing numbers above most per capital? (Baring places that were but much earlier obviously). - This is exactly why Leos first hire was a PR man.
