    Thanks for that post.

Days from first death looks to be a hard enough data point to provide a comparative reference between death rates in different countries.

Son? So you're in a high risk category? No wonder you're so cross!

    I resemble that remark.

Gangs in the Rio favelas in Brazil have given a warning to youth hanging around...

    https://news.trust.org/item/20200324211101-ie7qp
"We're imposing a curfew because nobody is taking this seriously," the message said, according to Extra.

"Whoever is in the street screwing around or going for a walk will receive a corrective and serve as an example. Better to stay home doing nothing. The message has been given."

Well, it's finally happened where I am. Everything but pharmacies, petrol stations, and groceries closed. Won't change my life at all. Can't believe I haven't worked since January.. Being off is the new normal.

I thought we were supposed to be following the Asian (and German) model of mass testing?

Seems we don't even have the capacity to test everybody that is showing symptoms... they need to be in fairly bad condition to be deemed worthy of testing. (and even then it's taking far longer than it should ideally)

And yet apparently our government are doing an awesome job of handling this so far... yeah sure they are...

If this gets really bad, many people in this country won't see the signs until it's quite literally staring them in the face! :(

The USA reported 13,335 new cases yesterday. If it has same today, it will leapfrog Italy and China into top spot for total confirmed cases.

    Did I read somewhere there's 20,000 applications a day?
    That's one 15 a minute, or 1 every 4 seconds
Anyone that is giving out about backlogs is talking through their hole, how could any system, especially one that didn't exist a month ago, deal with that?

East to say from your house watching Netflix. The logistics of it are unimaginable.

Some people are a drain on the states resources, I really think in Ireland (and not just Ireland it happens everywhere) that a certain cohort of people hold the country back, not the government.

The amount of resources allocated to hypochondriacs, layabouts who won't work, criminals, junkies, drunks, people who want a free house is staggering.

In this case a large proportion of the 96% who test negative must have known damn well they didn't have it but went along anyway, maybe just to be involved or to see what the craic was about.

Some data visualisations based on increased ICU capacity via private hospitals. Total ICU bed capacity increased by 80% since Irish measures introduced.

First image displays projected number of cases which ICU capacity can handle:

Second image (requested by another reddit user) has a second Y-axis, showing actual ICU beds:

Maybe many of these folks have complex psychological issues!

My sleep pattern is all skewed as well, but in a good way. I'm usually a night owl.

No tips for sleep other than the usual, but mind the anxiety, we are all worried, but it does no good. Focus on something else. Music always helps, it processes the emotions.

Que? The measures taken in the Netherlands are more stringent than here.

U.S. troops directed to remain on aircraft during Shannon stopovers

    https://www.buzz.ie/news/us-troops-aircrafts-shannon-airport-361177
A civilian airline carrier has been making daily stops in Shannon Airport over the last few weeks carrying U.S. military personnel from the U.S., Middle East and European countries including The Netherlands, Bulgaria and Poland.

A spokesman for the US Embassy in Dublin said: "US troops transiting through Shannon Airport have been directed to remain on board the aircraft.

"Only in circumstances where a maintenance issue requires troops to exit the aircraft will they be allowed to leave the plane and in these circumstances, they will not mingle with other passengers in the terminal."

and all it took was a global pandemic the likes of which we haven't seen in 100 years,

    (still using the airport though...)

Do they have social welfare measures in place to help you out? January to March is a hell of a time not to be working.

I'm in a similar situation, made worse by the fact that my boss (and owner of the business) is coming into work today after being off 2 days with flu symptoms. He should be self isolating but won't. I may have to walk out of my job of 20+ years because of this today. I'm terrified of putting my health at risk.

Tried to get my colleagues to join me in standing up to him but I think they assume I'm just an hysterical woman and so I'm on my own.

Damn. Do you live with people who may be vulnerable?

I wouldn't quit, but have you talked to colleagues? Union?

Don't do this on your own.

Would have done one day a week at home as a normal routine.. but this every day at home is doing my head in.

If you're just out for a walk, there's not much need for gloves and a mask.

Hope you're feeling ok but without an anti body test, it's impossible to say that you've been through it so you'll have to stick to whatever precautions you've been sticking to up to now.
