15,000 people are murdered every year by guns in the US.

Covid will be lucky to get anywhere near that.

    Covid-19 bad 2nd amendment good!

Approximately 60,000 die from/with flu there every year and a further 50,000 by suicide.
Both of these are barely in the top 10 of causes of death in the USA.

It's estimated that as many as 80,000 died from/with flu during the winter of 2018-2019
Doubt if gun murders/killings even make the top 20 causes.
Cancer and Cardio-Vascular are far and away the biggest causes.

Miriam made a very good point tonight.

If someone is told they dont meet the criteria for testing verus someone who actually tests positive for the virus they are going to act differently.

It's alright all the experts saying to self isolate if you have symptoms but if your being told you dont meet the 'criteria' your more likely after say day 7 of being stuck in doors to pop to the shops. The person who has it wont move outside their home.

I'm very worried about change in criteria. Both Dr. Ciara Kelly + Claire Byrne tested positive but wouldn't meet the criteria now. That means we will miss a lot of people.

    Agreed.

Also concerned there will be people who will have got tested for the smallest of reasons whose test will come back negative... then subconsciously think "business as usual" and ease up on the safety recommendations.:(

Yes I agree that it may change people’s behaviour. For some people, particularly if they don’t have family support, isolating for 14 days may be more challenging than others depending on circumstances. There does seem to be a lot of volunteer groups so maybe it will be more manageable with this help!

We are all been told to act as if we have it.

    The criteria is clear.

    Are you actually serious?

Who said the people with the flu going are chancers????

Its the people who have a sniffle or a sore thumb.

    Ah why am I bothering.

You're lying and twisting and changing your story with every post.

I'm saying the hse can't cope with the winter flu outbreak. They won't cope with a pandemic. You said they can but a and e is full of chancers

They could cope with flu season of chancers didn't clog up the A and E.

This has been explained to you over and over.

Yet you still can't get it into your skull.

Is there anywhere online that shows each countries (or most) daily percentage increase? I'd be interested to see to compare with Irelands daily rate.
Testing protocols can be very different both between and within individual countries

Ireland is going to limit testing now, but at least that deals with the backlog and we should get more valuable up to date data from those who are tested. However the figures at the end of this week will be on a very different basis than the figures we have seen today. Likewise there have been suggestions that German death figures are not including many who had other underlying conditions. There is probably not a great deal that can be gleaned by comparing countries, although data within countries will generally be more informative

Yes but it's a psychological thing.

Acting as if you may have it is totally different than actually being diagnosed.

Both Dr.Ciara Kelly + Claire Byrne spoke very well about actually shock when they tested positive.

Why would you go and sit in a and e for 14 hours if nothing was wrong with you?

Does a and e function fine Monday to Thursday then?

The drunks would be more likely at the weekend

A 10 hour wait on a wednesday instead of 14 on a Saturday. They don't cope.

if you have ever spent any time on a trolley as I have in A&E the place is full of people with minor ailments, drunks, and malcontents sleeping off drink etc

So that's where the malcontents go when they aren't posting on boards. I always wondered.

yes but still its not mambo jumbo, the site i posted is very accurate i am checking it daily for the last 10 days, it is up to a case and each country updated for each day as soon as the release their daily statistics.
whoever is managing this is doing an awesome job.

Now they have a reason etc say " F- off lads " , normally they cant

    hence no trolley crisis

The night my mum fell and broke her hip, there was one in A & E with nothing more than a mild case of food poisoning accompanied by an entourage of 6.

Government obviously still believe there are 15k cases in the country but they feel they are testing the wrong people. They are changing the criteria as they desperately need to find cases.

Every hypochondriac in the country wants a test aswell as one for their kids. Its worse because GPs cant physically examine those showing "symptoms".

On top of that they simply cannot process the amount of tests carried out. A negative test also still requires responsible actions, its not a licence to go back to normal as if you are off the hook.

this is bizarre. how does this gowl get access to PPE that health officials and governments can't?

But the 6 didn't require treatment so wouldn't have added to a waiting time. It's irrelevant

Anyone watching trumps latest car crash presser. He's lashing out at everyone, media, the EU (He's going to crush the EU once the crisis is over, he holds all the cards apparently). He spent 15mins listing sh2t he made happen that no other president has done.

He says they're lucky he's in charge or they wouldn't even have a country left. He's gone off the rails completely

They are. Heard of one HSE dentist who was trained in taking test sample on Monday morning and was working that afternoon.
