I don’t understand this, if someone is killed on the road you will have a name the following day at the latest why is this different.

If someone dies from cancer they dont release it.

In the current circumstances, purposely coughing on someone is tantamount to assault.

Would be interesting to know if these cases around country are traceable back to Dublin. Can't believe Dublin is not in lockdown and contained from rest of country.

    Dr Tony:

"Don't just focus on the testing"

I personally know somebody who has recovered from a flu like illness who's cohabitant now has breathing difficulties and fever. GP said will take 2 weeks to get tested.

What about all those people flying back to Cork and Galway - including the doctor

    So 451 ICU so far

451? Someone mentioned 600 a couple of posts ago.
This is an important figure to get right.

Several stories on the news of people purposely coughing in other people's faces for a laugh? Is this for real? People like that need to be rounded up and culled.

If somebody does that to me, given the current situation, I am taking it as a threat against my life (and my family's lives) and will be letting the fists fly (even on teenagers).

What are people's thoughts on these stories and how are they planning on reacting if this situation happens to them?

Fine the fcukers and their parents if underage

I think you will find it helps a lot if you contextualize your ire, by quoting the post you're attacking.

Forgive me. I'm not expressing it the right way. It's a fact under normal circumstances vested interests fund elections. If they had won last election with a majority I'm not sure we would see such decisive action in the public interest. I may well be cynical. The country's last election saw a massive swing to the left. The outgoing government is acutely aware of this.

Events are dictating action. I can envisage a situation where there are decisions to be made where there is a diametrically opposing opinions between business and public health interests.

In that scenario the shackles are off and the government is acting with purpose in the interest of public health.

I thought FG acted with integrity post-election -they said -ok we lost, we get the message so we'll become the opposition and the other 125 TDs can work it out among themselves. I didn't get the impression that anyone else were busting their butt to get into government even before the virus appeared as a presence in the country.
What could the outgoing government do ? Would they be have been thanked if they resigned en masse ? Could they resign now and say -actually folks we realise that we don't really have a proper electoral mandate to stay in office -so we're off -good luck with the virus thingy.

Thought that Dr Holohan was showing the signs of strain at tonight's DOH presser. A bit spiky I thought with his answers. Any thoughts?

UK report suggesting 45 millions cases in UK already, and none of them showed symptoms

I’ve been involved first hand this week again in a large hospital in Ireland. I’ve seen approx 60 patients with covid or ? Covid. I know some people here will scoff and call me a HSE shill and think I’m a wanker etc, but....

The effort we are making (As we should) is ****ing massive. This week we treated 2 patients with expensive experimental trial drugs and they both are cautiously improving. People are being flexible accommodating and generally sound to work with. I said initially that we really do have some fantastic docs here. I stand by that. There is a unique Irish balance of attitude, practicality, common sense and surprising smartness that we hide a lot of the time.

I sincerely hope it’s not a false optimism but I genuinely strive for us to look back at this and say we threw absolutely everything at it and we will compare favourably when we are looking back with the benefit of hindsight. It’s early early days. But we need to stop the exponential phase. Everybody needs to work really really hard at it.

    Thank You

So disingenuous comparing it to influenza testing with the 40%.

The damage wrought by this disease is orders of magnitude greater. Given it is more contagious and has a 20X greater death rate.

i.e it's worth getting more negatives. Hence the WHO advice that we are now going against.

Two assumptions, correct me if I'm wrong:

    1) Recovery numbers aren't being reported because the majority are self-isolating at home, and nobody is keeping track.

    2) ICU Number of 39 is total to date, there's less than that in ICU right now.

Also Italy are heavy smokers do there be lung damage there.

Maybe, but respiratory illness seems to be less of a factor in the fatal cases than diabetes and cardiac issues. I think the figure was something like 16% of fatal cases being related to respiratory problems, despite it being a common symptom. An average of 4 extra years of life across the population would make for a much larger pool of vulnerable people.

Diabetes and heart failure are huge issues in the US, so that might become a problem if they hit capacity on their ICU beds.

I wonder as well, since NYC is the hub in the US- the population in the city will tend to be much younger than even the US average.

Boris will be looking to see what % of the population he can get back to work ASAP with those home testing kits.
