"Buying them" isn't the problem , taking delivery is.

Don't get me wrong - Him spending his own money is fantastic and he's a guy that I'd have absolutely zero time for generally so fair play to him for the donation , but any suggestion that the Rich/Famous can get any of this stuff faster than Governments just isn't true.

In the UK they are have distribution problems. That is to say they have warehouses of the ppe but they are only now putting in place a system whereby hospitals can order from the warehouses holding the equipment. This meant manufacturers had them and were making more than the government wanted but it wasn't getting to the front line.

In that case ppe got to the front line quicker from medical staff tweeting there was a problem and rich people buying from the manufacturers rather than the hospital ordering from NHS warehouses.

I guess full ppe was always so far outside the normal.

I wonder if we have the same issue?

At Federal level yes but each state still has a lot of power, each state basically sets it's own domestic policy for the state. For example a U.S. state would have much more power in the U.S. than say Scotland would have in the U.K.

yes - and the States have a lot of control over their local health system.
there's no "Federal Health Service". it's very much on a State level.

So Cuomo does have a lot of power.

Yes, the masks are accounted for.
They'll be waiting longer for another 100,000 if they ask tomorrow. Millions are required.
What type of mask do you know?

I'd love to know what they were doing in the HSE procurement admin side in the run up to this. They have known for quite a while and I have seen the staff call outs on twitter for PPE, with some of their accounts shut down albeit temporarily.

To answer your question. You may know some of these.

O'Neill's in Strabane have reopened their production line, 2 days ago, to manufacture PPE for the NI Trusts. https://twitter.com/ONeills1918

Great post regarding the sudden drop off in hospital numbers as soon as this crisis hit. The GPs were sent a directive to stop sending non medical emergencies to our hospitals. For obvious reasons I can't post the source up on an internet forum. When this crisis has passed I truly hope that the HSE, the government, and the GPs get together and deal with the amount of people clogging up the service with minor ailments allowing our A and E departments to deal with real true emergencies and not having to deal with all the time wasting that was going on before. Let's hope something positive comes out of it anyway.

So the years of blaming the government for the trolley crisis was actually all lies??

    Interesting.

Had to attend Naas A&E last night at my GPs incisteance, was very nervous going in but there were only 2 people in front of me and I was home 3 hours later after getting bloods, ECG etc done. It's amazing how people use A&E unnecessarily. Wouldn't it be great if that changed after this.

am VERY impressed with Cuomo on this presser.

He's really getting into the weeds, and the details. VERY on top of his brief.

Possible - That's where the Army/Civil defence etc. can be hugely helpful.

Northern Ireland have put out their numbers earlier than usual today, there are now the same number of deaths there as there was in ROI yesterday (7). They have tested 3,372 people and have 209 confirmed cases.

Ireland has completed 17,992 tests as at midnight on the 23rd

Seems pretty concerning that NI are now level on deaths with the South

Sorry was a bit of a rhetorical. In regular contact with China. China are the source.

O'Neills pulled off a major PR coup and fairplay to them. The impact will be minimal. They have other production lines they could have used which would have made a real impact.

But then there'd be little to post about, except of course the sanctity of privacy, GDPR etc.

He does , but the Federal Government have all the money - So if they roll back the "emergency" status at Federal level that cuts off access to huge funds and resources..

He could for example maintain a state level lock-down , but without Federal support the states run out of cash really fast.

Rumours some democrats want him to replace Biden as the democratic nominee. Biden's continues to make gaffe's and doesn't look as assuring or as commanding as Cuomo does.

Ive thankfully never needed A&E myself but due to a condition my child has we have spent many a night in childrens A&E. Im always amazed at the kids who need A&E yet gobble madconalds etc and spend their time running around waiting to be seen.

I think we have more than our fair share of time wasters in Ireland.

"McGregor" and "top class" are not three words that go together.

Just had text form a friend who has just tested positive.. no major symptoms bit of a cough which wasn’t clearing as he has a child with a poor immune system GP sent him to be tested.
Under new protocol he wouldn’t have been tested and he was sure it was only a cold.
    Still doesn’t feel majorly unwell.
His GP was on the ball and he was in self isolation from early on .. but he could have very well dismissed it as a cold and carried on with life.
Goes to show how important social distancing is , everyone should presume that everyone they meet has it ..

He's plain-spoken and has a very abrasive personality, which is perfect for this. Himself and de Blasio have git it into it during this.

    How stupid can you get?
The head of Public Health for the HSE is now in self isolation after visiting his family in England last week.
Has he ever heard of Skype?
EDIT: Head of Public Health HSE.

Havnt posted in here for 2 weeks - just wondering, anyone any idea why German statistics are so much better than Spain and Italy ?

Are they doing more random testing , and Spain and Italy only testing people very sick with virus -

Currently Spain have nearly 2,500 in a serious condition , and Italy nearly 3,500 while Germany has only 23 in serious condition.
Germany has a total of 36,000 cases ,
    Spain has nearly 48,000
    and Italy nearly 70,000

    NYC : 30,000 ventilators needed.

They have 4,000. Ordered 7,000. "still shopping"

    ( Cuomo presser)

We are lucky there. They are made in Galway. Medtronic do 50% of the world supply
    .

Both France and Germany banned the export of all medical equipment.

Only England though, not up here in NI.

Sounds like you guys might need them too.. how is your death total matching the south, with far less confirmed cases?

Is that under testing? Or something else?

If he is the head of public health for the HSE, why would he take a plane over to the UK in the midst of this crisis? Still Idiotic.
