    C.....! Read the entire post.

I did read the entire post and plenty of of other articles mentioning that drop in accounts. I'm not saying I believe, just find it strange and also I'm not taking any report from China as gospel

I hope you're not calling me what I think you are.

    Thats not true.

I have spoken with one of the biggest PPE suppliers in Ireland this morning and they will have 100,000 masks landing here in two weeks, order received and confirmed by China manufacturers.

Yes, the masks are accounted for.
They'll be waiting longer for another 100,000 if they ask tomorrow. Millions are required.
What type of mask do you know?

The vital PPE gear that's currently required for frontline staff is NOT readily available from China. It's being snapped up before being ready. Lots of back orders.
If anyone can source IIR masks let me know.

Does any Irish companies make? We need to protect the healthcare frontline

Another problem is countries are starting to stop export or just claiming oh we need to check whats in your truck.

South Korea have a government, a system and a population ready to deal with this after having these sort of issues before. South Korea were also dealing with the start of this when the rest of the world was open for business and medial resources easily available.

Ireland trying to follow the South Korea strategy is great but to expect us to be able to match what they are doing is unreasonable. People are holding our government to a ridiculously high standard without factoring in no country is prepared for this. We aren’t the only country struggling to get the resources we want to deal with it but at least our country is trying to be more like The best (South Korea) at dealing with it , then trying to make sh*t up (uk/USA) or leaving it too late like the rest of Europe. So far the tiered closedown has been way ahead of a lot of European countries or at least level with most...

Mistakes will be made, but that’s supposedly what happens in crisis, the key thing is to learn from mistakes and to regroup.

All I was saying though is that it is either a mistake or a lie to claim we are following the SK strategy; as we are very clearly missing key components of that strategy in our own strategy (all of which being easy to identify).

I.e. I am not talking about the quality of execution of the strategy, but simply explaining why it is incorrect to say this is the strategy we are trying to follow.

I'll say it again. Population density and the amount of people in a country will come into play here. The potential for growth in countries with a smaller population just isn't there. Our population although more urbanised than in the past still has a large amount of people living in small towns and rural villages. There's a natural social distancing that comes with that.

Well in some cities it may have only been 40 days but Hubei was certainly for much longer, around 60 days at least. Important to remember that Europe is far more deeply affected than even China's worst affected province Hubei

The people here in Norway are respecting social distancing and staying at home.
And to be honest, people's jobs are more protected here and will most likely have them back when this is "over" so people are more likely to comply with government restrictions... in my opinion.

Sweden have delayed their response to this and will be a little more feck'd. Not sure why they're not listening or seeing what's going on in other countries.

The only part of China which was ever as bad as most European countries currently are in terms of infections is Hubei Province (most cases/deaths in the Chinese numbers are from there). The rest of the country was always pretty much under control.

So I think when we look at what is coming for us, we should be locking more at Hubei that at China as a whole.

Yeh thats true, would be interesting to see a growth chart of Dublin beside the rest of the country. Dublin is probably much closer to the 30% growth rate than the rest of Ireland

I read that they were still taking a softer approach, long after others have done a 180 on the same. What do they think is unique about their country that hasn't worked elsewhere?

Northern Ireland have put out their numbers earlier than usual today, there are now the same number of deaths there as there was in ROI yesterday (7). They have tested 3,372 people and have 209 confirmed cases.

Ireland has completed 17,992 tests as at midnight on the 23rd

And the first delivery will be here in days thanks to an Aerlingus flight going out to Beijing in the coming days..EI to run 5-6 flights per day to bring back the total order. More details on the aviation forum

You think. That's were you went wrong.

If 45% of the infections are from community transmission, do you

    A) test all those people and hope to reduce your numbers infected and isolate them and repeast the procedure until numbers are no longer presenting themselves

    b) abandon all of those people 11 days later because you haven't the capacity to do it and give them shít excuses, gambling that it wont spread like wildlfire, and that only those really affected will present themselves in a heap in your ICU, for ventilation.

    c) make some obscure remark about an unrelated illness hoping nobody will notice
Hmm. If you are so right then why aren't you driving national policy?

I think you look at paltry return on the mass testing to date and ask if it's the right route. They clearly think it isn't and they've modified it. It makes sense to me how they explained this change. None of us have the data to state if it is a good or bad idea no matter how much we browbeat others for being wrong. I'm happy to wait and see and adjust to things as needs be.

The only difference is that they have a current WHO person advising them directly.
