The situation is fluid, I'm wary one of putting faith in (conservative) projections seven days never mind three weeks from now. I'm pleased in the immediate term that the rate of increase is <20%. Obviously the increased prolificacy of testing will change that, however one find must solace where they can.

Doesn't the amount of people testing positive mean next to nothing seeing as our testing system has been a disaster so far (understandable given the circumstances) It's not working well enough yet for the numbers to mean anything at all.

The most positive thing is the rate of deaths and those in ICU. Are these running at a slower rate than that of Italy and Spain I wonder? It does seem we haven't been doing to bad in this regard and this must give some hope?

Deaf ISL user here. It's very complex interpreting a visual language into a spoken one and vice versa. Different part of the brain is used. It gets very tiring. The quality of the interpretation deteriorates hence them swapping. They usually work in pairs , interpreting for twenty minutes at a time.

Ah ok fair enough. Good answer. I didn't know. I just saw one of them dash of stage

I briefly tuned into Matt Cooper there this evening, and apparently someone doing some of the testing texted in to say that 10 people didn't show to appointments on Sunday.
What an almighty waste of time and resources....

Sure with the waiting lists to get tested they may have recovered before getting tested.

Holohan although saying he hadn't seen paddy Cosgraves tweets, called it out for what it is, disgraceful and a breach of privacy

Mention of a high profile person on Twitter revealing info about a deceased person.

    Hi Berties

i total agree, the number are conservative, i put up number last night with higher numbers, it to show that any change in how people meet and deal with others needs to be put in place at least 14 days before you see the affect

When Tony Holohan talks about 5 contacts per case, does he mean that the person who tested positive had only been in contact with 5 people after being tested?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 801 ✭✭✭frillyleaf

Unlikely. We can't do stuff like that in a liberal democracy apparantly. Ring your GP, Gardai or maybe let your TD know about it. Its clowns like her who are spreading covid 19. She'll probably be in the queue panic buying tomorrow.

There was a reason the Chinese forcefully quarantined positive cases, it was to protect others from them.

Because of people like her it will take us years to resolve this.

I feel feel the tests are taking too long to come and people described as above won’t take it seriously. That’s the fundamental difference, we aren’t quarantined here where as far people with a temperature were likely packed away and quarantined in China to protect others.

Some people just don’t take it seriously at all. I’m sure people like this person described is out using ATM machines etc

Change in case definition for a test.

As expected a large number of people simply with a cough or even a bit of a head cold looking for testing.

Must have 2 symptoms now, previously cough or fever, now both.
was that Paul Cullen Irish Times that asked that question which document did he spot the change in I don't see it here https://www2.hse.ie/conditions/coronavirus/coronavirus.html

    it is here
Ireland has adopted the World Health Organisation case definition for COVID-19; A patient with fever and at least one sign of respiratory disease e.g. cough, shortness of breath.

Outstanding work by the government and the HSE. And the private hospitals to join together. One for all and all for one.

Can you still have sex during this pandemic or is that a breach of social distancing?

Had only been in contact with 5 people prior to asking to be tested. Close contacts. 5 is a very very good sign.

Does this surprise you? No shows are a huge problem in the health service as well as morons who rock up to A&E that shouldn't be there.

The Uk has roughly the same population at France, but half the number of fatalities.

I think that is the most telling stat.

Looking at this from a numbers view we probably have one in every 300 people with the virus now (most not tested or showing). This means that on average if you cross paths with 300 people in the day you are likely to contact one with the virus. More likely in Cities. Limit exposure by keeping away from people or where many people have recently been. Supermarkets must be avoided as much as possible and all care taken when you have to go.

Or if considering taking a long haul flight or working as cabin crew that’s one passenger.
