But why ? Does he envisage using the Army at some stage ?

We don't really have an army, not in the true sense anyway.

    Next to no force projection.

What we have is a glorified national guard. (But they're fine men & women the lot of them!) ;)

Switched it off when Harris started speaking. I've no interest in listening to someone I've no respect for.

I think I've gained new respect for Harris and FG in this pandemic

We'd really need to work on our data transparency. I'd like to see a webpage instead of Dr Tony playing north / south / east / west.
    https://www.againstcovid19.com/singapore/
There is one somewhere. He usually mentions it in the DoH briefing but we are not down to towns.

Something good and huge that came out from today, is that if you get sick with this and need hospital treatment for this Coronavirus, people don't need to pay. Did I get that right? If so, isn't that fantastic news for those who need to go to hospital with this? You won't be stressed in a hospital bed thinking how will you pay for treatment.

    Once again.
I suspect he's referring to the province of the same name (pop. 1.1 million) rather than the town/city.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Province_of_Bergamo

City or province, the key data there is that a 1800 30 year olds got pneumonia from Covid-19.
Young(ish) people getting not mild symptoms, but pneumonia.

People in the UK and America who happen to see this broadcast will be envious of the people who we have leading us at this point.

    Key points.
Well done to everyone making the effort in this unique time.
We need to continue and increase our efforts.
We are following what has emerged as best practice in South Korea and Singapore.
We are seeing positive signs of our efforts thus far.

UK have guaranteed 80% of their income.

Folks new symptoms to watch out for. Loss of sense of taste and smell. Feeling fine, bit of headcold but smell and taste gone.
Gp has referred me for covid 19 test as the above is a red flag symptom.

My cat has eaten something that's giving her the foulest smell. Sitting beside me ripping away, so I have a detector for that symptom good and running. ;)

They are all so calm. Paschal now clearly outlining the economic plan.

Yes this brings into question the idea of a universal payment for everyone.

However you won't find much sympathy for someone who hasn't worked in years trying to get an increase.

Not everyone on welfare is a dole for life merchant. On the contrary, rather than looking for an increase, what justification have they for raising the rate for those let go because of this virus? Change in financial circumstances? Anybody let go has a chance in financial circumstances.

I thinks it’s a sensible and balanced approach. I’ve been calling for more measures for a while but I think this goes far enough without us being in total lockdown.

All I'll say is if I had Crohn's there's no way I'd have the balls to be out and about and in as many different places as he is every day.

Will people on the dole (€203 a week) get a rise?

If anything this is just the kind of national emergency they were designed for.

Some fantastic measures introduced today, and I'm no fan of Fine Gael.

I don't see why they would. Financially nothing much has changed for them.

RTE cut off the news conference WTF

But maybe they had to because another vacuous celeb has contracted the virus and they need to tell us all how they're doing...

All this lockdown talk and essential services is far too subjective....

Up until yesterday, Krispy fooking Cremes was an essential service....

Absolutely. Such a contrast to the US and UK leadership who care more about the economy than the people. I got a little emotional when Leo said our health was the most important thing.
