I figured as much, but would have thought recording the recoveries is pretty important in understanding rates etc. It would even give people a bit of a lift to see that number rise.

It would. But when we don't have enough ability to test all symptomatic people then testing confirmed cases who are now well can't really happen.

Why are they constantly reporting a lockdown,

Boris never said the word lockdown,
Told people they can go too and from work if they can't work from home.
People can have multiple walks outside and just say it's there first walk of the day
    You can do your shopping
    You can walk your pets

My definition of a lock down is like in Spain.
Maximum of 2 people in a car
You can't walk the streets unless you can prove you are going from A to B (shopping, chemist, walk dog only to do their business and straight back home)
€600 fines for people on the street.
All shops, cafe's, beaches and businesses closed
Real enforcement by the police and army

What are the chances that the actual covid 19 virus is seasonally affected ? Not the hospitals response but the virus itself

Waiting on my doctor to ring me back to check on symptoms. My 2 year old had bad nappies for 24/48 hours a couple days before I got my dose so thought nothing more of it, hopefully the doc reckons I'm fine

It is. It's why it's spreading so much compared to influenza. Basically a smart virus that infects, is pretty contagious, and for the most part, doesn't really affect people.

It would be far better if it made people very sick like the flu does.

I know it's origin is from wuhan wet market until proven otherwise but this a helluva virus which would make a very effective weapon.
    • long incubation period
    • asymptomic people can infect
    • more contageous than the flu
    • just high enough percentage of critical care / ICU to completely nullify effective treatment
    • untold economic damage

I do not think it's a weapon, it's just interesting to see how "effective"/"destructive if it were. Before people go mad at me, we live in a world where a huge amount of money goes into developing such programs.

Any reason why we have terrible reporting on cases in our country?
What is worth the information as 'one woman died in east of country'??

total boll***s... as it means absolutely nothing.

does not require a name but could say this old with there health conditions infected this way or whatever..
not just about deaths but generally reporting here is boarding on criminal.
no wonder why it is spreading this much this fast since people are absolutely not aware of the dangers of it.

I think they will start releasing stats on fatalities but will wait until the number rises a bit higher, just for privacy for the individuals and there families. They did similar with cases here, originally only giving, south east or west but now give county, age and other information.

That word unknown rears its head again. Saw that some Chinese scientists had suggested it could die out over summer. Trump of course jumped on that!

Just to add - i live in a working class part of Dublin

Since we have been told to keep our social distance none of the kids of the street have been out playing whatsever

Fair play to them as the area is full of people over 60

No one knows... the virus has only been known to science since the beginning of January.

Trump's lies still having an effect, it seems.

There's no data on it as the virus is too new. Here's to hoping, but it's still pretty active in hot places.

Also, seasonality may well be to do with cold weather causing people to be in easy-to-spread high densities. So, the various mitigation measures may be creating the same effect i.e. spreading people out and making transmission less easy. There are a several theories on seasonality but, the changes in human behaviour in hot weather may be a lot to do with why certain bugs don't spread.

Trump is going to be responsible for 1,000's of deaths in the US.

They need the 25th amendment enacted to get rid of this moron.

Depends on your definition of "travel transmission". every case outside china can be related back to travel transmission.

Did he make the connection between Diarrhea and people having worse symptoms or a more severe case of the bug ? I cant remember where I heard that, just curious if hes also seen this happen . .

I would also wonder that if people end up on hospital with breathing difficulties would a few of them forget or fail to confirm that they had diarrhea ? (when you cant breath, going to the toilet would be the last thing on your mind).

One thing that scares me in relation to this. I emphasise that this is speculation but it stands to reason in my mind.
    • you could have covid with mild symptoms and diarrohea
    • someone in household could have a bad dose with more respitory symtoms
    • that person using the same toilet could be exposed to increased viral load envioronmentally via aerosol
    • thus worsing their respitory symptoms.

Some of the video above is from about 5-7 days ago, at the start of restrictions in Spain. I'm not sure that those incidents are still an on-going issue. They were initially as you'd tourists who were behaving pretty ignorantly and not complying with beach closures and so on.

With the new measures coming in, what will that mean for deliveries from online stores for non essential goods (electronic, clothing etc)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,734 ✭✭✭✭kowloon

Hubs went to Lidl on Sunday. It was well-stocked. We got everything on our list except for rice and eggs. Eggs are the gold dust item currently, I’m finding. Probably a surge in home baking happening.

Which I find frustrating as I have Chickens, but they're old girls now and don't lay anymore .

People asking in different threads if barbers are still open? What reason is it at the moment for people to get a haircut?

it was the last thing an 80+year old male persom I know did, 4 weeks ago. Probably, sadly incase they die. I dont think the reality of a closed coffin and possibly a cremation had struck home yet.

Well, in the US, on one side of the house you have them screaming that the medicine and associated huge economic damage is worse than the effect (deaths). On the other side, the appear to me willfully hoping for a massive **** up that will swing the November presidential election in their favor. The whole political system over there is huge a mess! Always is! If/When they get "President Biden", it'll be the very same, except the opposite way around!

yes indeed they are - when the lockdown went into force in Spain.

The Spanish cops didn't mess around.

Where is it summer right now in the world. Australia is in warmer season and only has 2k positive tests, nobody said it would disappear in the summer seasons but the numbers getting it might reduce.

    That's very scary

I'm not picking on you here MOR316 but it is alarming that this is not general knowledge at this stage and may help explain why we continue to have so many in the country flout the recommendations made by the HSE et al.

This added to the questionable statements about wearing masks, the 15 minute nonsense, and no highlighting of the potential for aerosolised transmission could be doing untold damage in this country
