Imagine, praising Tories. Do people not realise we're a week ahead of them in terms of shutting things down?

Exactly, we are a week ahead of them with closing down places and they are a week ahead of us with their 1st positive case

We have made the Brits looks like fools so far

Oh no what will we do, Boris is suddenly the world's savour.

Jesus christ go live in the UK if you think they have done such a great job.

This is a style of comment you'd find on a playground.

Boris has stepped up restrictions. That's it. No tears

We have thousands of idiots going around like nothing's wrong. Our figures grew by more today than ever. We had two deaths, we had four deaths in eight days before today.
Tomorrow is likely going to be worse again.
4,500 tests daily and rising. Yes they will get worse and we know that, deaths included. If what we are mostly doing now is effective they will still rise for a while but more slowly.

it's going to be interesting to see how the British police enforce this in certain gangland/ghetto areas of London.

I doubt they will bother. Who is going verify whether they do or not?

I think that the time has come to have a lockdown. One of the first things that you have to decide is what would have to happen to enable the lockdown to be ended. It could be some time before it ends

Is Varadkar going to extend the ban on gatherings past 29? Any word on that?

I'd imagine that announcement will be by Wednesday/Thursday. I can see this being extended to another 2 weeks and roll as needed

    Get real

You’re probably one of these food snobs that looks down your nose at convenient food, and when nobody is looking, have a little pigout!

Are all the posters tonight new to the party?

Boris is great? Leo is a fool?

I’d sooner be eating the cake one slice at a time (schools shut. Pubs closed. Paddy’s day cancelled. And a lot of restaurants and hotels locked up) for the last 10 days or so... along with a whole lot of visible social distancing...

Than having The WOLE CAKE shoved in my face to wolf it down in a stupidly short space of time!

The UK are what, 18/19 days into this (since 1st death) and ain’t going to see any results (from this lockdown) for another 2 weeks!

How many will be dead by then?

They wasted precious time and more importantly LIVES!!!! With their ‘herd immunity’ approach!!!

This Friday - we will hopefully see the fruits of our approach.

    And we are the fools?

    Are we fûck

    Good speech by Boris Johnson.

It just shows how vacuous Leo Varadkar's address to the nation was, where he addressed the nation and with nothing new.
Sir O sums it up pretty well.

Leo's was a hearts and minds speech and delivered well enough and needed too, but the measure of him will come if he can give a non fluffy we're in a war against an invisible enemy type speech and deliver on it. The phony war is over, now we need to start shooting back. If an eejit like Boris can...

Dont think boris is saviour of the world. He f*cked up and now he is trying to rectify it. He has put my family at risk in england. I find ireland is doing a great job with the virus but idiots at the weekend have spoilt it for us sensible ones. I dont want a full lock down but i think its the only option now.

Agreed we have to assume Leo had advance knowledge of this, I’m thinking Mary Lou also had advance knowledge judging by her demands for more action earlier. Maybe even Michael Martin also had been tipped off because this is the first time he had song from his own hymn sheet perhaps we are now witnessing political distancing in play

We all can't work from the safety and comfort of our own homes. Lock the country down for the sake of the rest of us. We don't want to contract the virus

Massive testing differences. Uk doing no community testing and only testing hospitalised patients

    i fear that too.

Will only take some over-zealous police to make a riot kick off. Especially in parts of London.

Guy I know just had his flight cancelled by the airline. The flight wasn’t till July though which is crazy.

I think we’re in this shambles for a year to 18 months.

We're testing huge amounts more per million, even if not aggressively enough

    UK figures are total ****

Jesus Christ, people don't seem to get it.

By needing a 'lockdown' (it's a quarantine lads) means you have completely lost control of the situation. This is not a win for Boris. The UK, like ourselves had the jump on this thing. We relatively quickly moved to the 'social distancing' approach. minimise the effect on the economy & interruption to day to day life while achieving the maximum gain.

Boris was hellbent on letting this infection burn through the population, an aim that he has achieved. This is a mere smokescreen to the damage already done.

I am glad we have our caretaker government in charge. FG seem interested only in achieving the best possible outcome for the situation we find ourselves in. Not bowing to populism, but basing policy on the best scientific advice available to them. I hate to think what would happen if we had a government that looks to just react to whatever the loudest populist rhetoric in the room might be.

I'm truly glad to be this side of the Sea.

People praising Boris here need to take a look in the mirror. This man is just after performing a massive backtrack...

Isn't that a good thing? Never be afraid to remedy your mistakes for the greater good.
