Each days delay in results causes in increase in community infection even though the people are in isolation.

This is as a result of the depth of the contact tracing. If it is known that you have been in contact with a positive case then your contacts are traced. If you have been in contact with a suspected case (awaiting results), then your contacts are not traced.

I am speaking from personal experience here, as no one has been in touch with me even though I was in contact with someone who was contact traced. If the original person had their results and they were positive, I would have been contacted as well.

Its a big factor, despite your post saying its not.

I will probably be lambasted for this, but,

We could find ourselves with Britain as the best friend of us if things went to ****, we have possibly food surplus here we could export to England, England still has huge coal reserve that it has stopped mining, also it has oil and gas, and operating Nuclear facilities. We are already hardwired to England to receive power.

If you look at the two Islands strategically without national anthems and flags waving, we could be very complimentary to each other and have pretty much what we need between us to continue with a decent survival of our peoples.

Ireland has the food while England has the power, trade our food surplus for essential energy.

Lets hope we don’t get to that point.

Great post... never thought of it like that.

    Things getting real in italy

Italy no longer treating coronavirus patients over the age of 60
    https://www.jpost.com/International/Israeli-doctor-in-Italy-We-no-longer-help-those-over-60-621856

This has been the case for weeks. It is why their numbers are so high. Triage due to overwhelmed/overrun hospitals.

The younger people get the ventilators. The older people get morphine from the anesthetists.

    Hand sanitiser

I just got this sanitizer delivered, said it was professional hand sanitiser.

Looking at the ingredients, does this look like it’s useless as there is no alcohol in it?

It now appears that those people were ostrich with heads in the sand about the scale of the problem.

Fun fact about Ostriches: They actually have very little to no medical knowledge.

For all we are doing to stop the spread in developed countries, wtf is going to happen when it kicks off bad in Africa and Bangladesh and such places? No chance the virus can be contained in these places. They will just have to close borders to these countries for a long time (a lot of people will love this decision however!).

Unless they've got better immunity than those in the parts of the world it's spread to, they don't stand a chance.

I am no expert, but anything with, 'Methyl' in it is an alcohol related ingredient.

Yeah there wouldn't be any chance of history repeating itself in that scenario. Britain always had Ireland's interests at heart. The tories would definitely treat us well

Rubbish, read you post again #2002.

HSE already know, they are putting efforts in now, it was you post that was incorrect.

Anyway, testing delays are extremely important, that's what post 2002 disagrees with, lets leave it at that.

Many sanitizers don't have alcohol, but are still effective; you'll have to look it up.
Soap and water is better than sanitizer; it washes away the virus. It there is dirt, the virus can cling on to it and not be killed by the sanitizer.

Potentially useless. It’s just a disinfectant. I’m not sure what the effectiveness of those is on Coronavirus.

Alcohol sanitisers have a fairly strong effect on Coronavirus because it’s a lipid (fat) envelope with RNA inside. Alcohol dissolves fats very effectively.

Soap and water is a better approach where possible.

The DDAC in it is a disinfectant.

Lots of captain Foresights who got relentlessly called doom mongers etc. A bit of balance would be nice. Calling people "captain hindsight" is derogatory and doesn't add to the conversation. It now appears that those people were ostrich with heads in the sand about the scale of the problem.

So you complain about people being called names and then call then "Ostriches".

    Well done.

There are a lot of people here wise after the event and have all the answers and just throw stuff out that this should be happening and the government aren't doing this but in reality they don't know any more than the average person, like myself.

Not to mention that you’re not getting a full nct anyway with the lifts out of service. In the majority of centers it’s already a 2 visit job. My nct and tax both out in May. Wonder what the story will be with tax if nct is closed?

OK, if the worst does come to pass, you can retreat to your candle lit cabin singing rebel songs of old while drinking poitin made from a milk churn.

And I will get on with exporting our surplus to England in exchange for more power across the inter-connector that already exists.

Those pictures from Spain are very scary. I wonder how long will we be saying oh it's different here, we don't live in apartments, we don't kiss, etc.

We are kidding ourselves. The only hope we have is that we have a bit more time to prepare.

    Maybe th Netherlands will change tactic now, after cases quadruple in a week from 1,077 (20) to 4,204 (179);

High level meeting this afternoon followed by press conference

Same thing crossed my mind, germany and the PE going to switzerland, France blocking the masks to UK and czech's commindeering the gear from china to italy. It's no longer a union but every man for itself. I think the UK will be our greatest ally and vice versa.

Benzalkonium chloride is used in many hand-sanitizers.

Its the same in large car parks.
You could park over in the corner hundreds of feet from any other car but within minutes a sheep will be parked right up close to your car.
I think a lot of people have lost the ability to think for themselves.

Cars usually congregated nearest the entry of an Aldi etc as so many are too lazy to walk across a car park. Some would drive the car into the shop if they could.

I dunno about that hand sanitiser.

Baby wipes, hand wash and a dry facecloth is as good. Put hand wash on hands and rub around with one or two baby wipes (add extra water to them if needed) for the recommended amount of time. Dry of with face cloth or a cut up old towel.

Sandwich bag to put used wipes in to.
