So how do you know if they haven't ordered PPE for staff?

Do you also not think that they might be hard to get during this time?
This in a big way. I know that because I bought a P3 face respirator last year long before Covid for a completely different reason. Cost me 20 or 25 quid. I've had a couple of people recently asking me about similar, so looked on ebay for my exact one and here's a running auction for one currently at 70 odd quid., here's a Buy it Now at over 140 quid, being viewed on the regular. What hope have medical staff and the HSE? Even if individuals wanted to buy them personally and lord knows if I were a doctor, nurse or other healthcare worker likely to come in contact with this thing I'd want more than a paper surgical mask(though would be better than nothing), good luck in getting one any time soon.

Took 6 weeks for global cases to reach 100k
12 days after that to reach 200k
4 days after that to reach 300k
Likely will reach 400k worldwide tomorrow, which will be 3 days total to add another 100k

You’re obviously going to get more cases if there are more people.
Raw number of cases per region analysis doesn’t really give us any meaningful data. Per capita might or transmission rates might.

Nope. The population of Madrid is about 10% of all Spain, yet it makes up 33% of cases. Dublin has something like 50% of cases with 25% of national population. London, Lombardy, NYC would also have disportionately high numbers of cases and deaths.

Attack the post not the poster. Is this a rule or can we all depend into name calling? Doesn't seem that anyone actually moderates this.

No, we are adopting the current Government policy - everyone has to act sensibly and to assume personal responsibility.

According to worldometer, worldwide confirmed cases now at 350K. Of that, 100.3K recovered and 15.3K dead.

Well if you are to be believed you are the "model citizen" who does exactly as hes told, and are not swayed by "maybes".

Unfortunately this is not the norm (see videos above), and we need to deal with the norm to get this under control.
Not model at all but I do see the logic of the advice. There are many things we have no control over in this but there are quite a few we do have control over. I think mental coping skills are as important as anything else we have to do during this and an ability to process what information we get to reach some semblance of calm is vital.

Somehow I don't think that many if any of those are NHS workers.

i did a search on twitter for "tesco hull" , and yes , it does confirm that they were NHS workers

Anyone got stats based on population density? That might be a good indicator.

Well said you will always get stupid people in any society. Im british apart from family in england all im worried about is the way we act in ireland.
+1. In one way it's worse here, because we have a much lower population density than the UK, especially England(thank christ and hopefully this crisis knocks this we need more people bollocks that's popular with some). In a pinch we can actually feed ourselves, which the UK most certainly can't. If their borders were actually cut off they would have hungry bellies. And yet we had enough of our dribbling bloody morons hoarding bogroll and pasta a while back and we clearly have the same percentage of dribbling bloody morons who don't understand staying the fuck a safe distance away from people unless absolutely necessary.

Yep, the attitude here over the weekend is as bad as the UK, despite what the Brit haters infesting this thread believe. Get our own house in order, why keep looking over there?

The ESB meter-reader just came into my house. Surely one person literally going door to door in a neighbourhood can't be a good idea? Also do people really need to go for NCT tests? (apparently YES!)

I think God only talks to Bono, the difference between God and Bono.
God doesn't think he is Bono.

Type of housing another major factor I'd bet. Take Madrid. A lot, if not most people live in apartments. It's a very high density population. Most Irish people live in houses. Low density. Fewer shared points and surfaces. If one of my suburban neighbours gets this pox, unless I go hug them or lick their front door handle my risk is pretty low. If my same suburban road's inhabitants were packed vertically into an apartment block my risk of infection would go up significantly. .

Again I'll bet when this dies down and routes of infection are looked at more closely apartment dwellers will be shown to be at much higher risk than those in houses. Again Ireland has a major advantage here, but again if morons will stop being morons.

Don't even need to go far to see it. I didnt even have to leave the house to see stupidity outside yesterday. 2 birthday parties full of kids, another house looking after other peoples kids inc baby and people/kids in and out. Another house had 4 generations from at least 3 other houses visiting.

It's a bloody stupid idea. Why didn;t you just tell him no? Ask for the card they carry and do your own reading. I've done that so many times in the past when I was too busy to be dealing with them. Never had a problem.
Also do people really need to go for NCT tests? (apparently YES!)
And another completely fcuking stupid idea at a time like this. They are a shared surface and human contact pinch point and should be on hiatus for the interim. Their workers are majorly exposed, who could go on to expose others. Moronic.

I actually wouldn't and I would accept that 5 days and be happy to explain why to anyone in the household. It is something that nobody can do anything about but I would see it is being resolved now.

Five days is nothing for god sake. People are so self-centred and entitled. My daughter started showing symptoms last Monday, called GP Weds and and was tested on Saturday. I didnt expect instant results.

I wasn't attacking the poster. I'm making the point that it's very easy to criticise things after the event.

Also, maybe you should read the charter here about back seat moderation if you're so worried about people sticking to the rules.

Nct test centres would be ideal for covid testing.

Had to run an errand into tesco and also the chemist here in Sligo. No queues in tesco (thank feck) but the chemists was a bit more interesting.

Was greeted inside the door (which is being kept permanently open) by a girl in a kiosk protected by glass/plastic. She asked me a bunch of questions about my general health before allowing me to proceed any further. There was literally only one other person inside anyway, but I assume customer numbers are being restricted.

The town in general is extremely quiet. Whatever about the rest of the country, Sligo has definitely gotten the message loud and clear.

Watching a well known YouTube food blogger there were he's in Iran, what strikes you is how on top of each other people are, at bazaars and in Kebab shops, no wonder its spreading rapidly over there

Try explaining this to some of the Brexit cohort. Two U-Boat campaigns weren't enough to learn dem gud. It's ironic that Churchill is deified by the same people.

Yeah, it is sarcasm. Of course no one like being locked inside their houses. But if the alternative is being forced to one of those "hospitals/isolation centres/camp" because of only having mild fevers/mild symptoms. I think they actually prefer to stay at their home instead.

My pal is a meter reader (I used to be also) and was told not to knock on doors currently by ESB, make of that what you will...
