I imagine it's an EU wide thing. We are a drop in the ocean. We could order enough for the whole country from China and they wouldn't be that bother. Try do the same for Germany or France and you start running into supply side problems.

We followed the same mental criteria as our EU partners despite the clear guidelines from WHO on how to contain this. I'd say that was supply side at EU level decision too.

We need to push back. If there are factories that can make them here we should stop all outside orders until citizens here are protected.

Germany has done this, china has done this, US have done this.

HSE need to get a grip and stop treating people like mushrooms.

Isnt there a company in Limerick that make them and that were reporting a few weeks ago that they have ramped up production in order to meet orders from china/asia. I'm sure the Gov/HSE are aware of that company and can place large orders with them if need be.

So who is allowed to say anything about this pandemic.
The CMO, people who have it, paddy cosgrave?

No, I'm just stating facts and they have stated the contacts per case have fallen dramatically. The contact tracing and testing levels are not related. 4500 tests from today.

Please do try and understand the maths.

There are only so many contact tracers.

By having a 4 or 5 day delay they are working on tracing 2 or 3 times as many contacts. They can not do as good/deep a job.

The official line that masks don't work, is dishonest. My reading comprehension is just fine, and my brain still works, so I'll research a topic and do my own thinking if those you call 'quallified' are being economical with the truth. And I will comment on said research and cogitations if I wish. Don't tell me what to post.

    Great username; very apt.

Go on then. Do whatever you like. Why don't you offer your qualified brain and go to the HSE on a consultant basis?

Given that the HSE never had a use for any masks ever before, and probably don't have any supply lines in place or logistics, you should just go in there and sort it out for them so that everyone can have a mask and then they can stop "lying".

Can someone help me out with this article
    https://www.rte.ie/news/world/2020/0322/1124706-italy-new-death-toll/

    the last line concerns me

"Generally, you need to be 15 minutes or more in the vicinity of an infected person, within 1-2 metres, to be considered at-risk or a close contact."

Personally i think this is very dangerous advice ( but I have no medical training). I have heard people quote this line to me, i think a lot of people will read it as we can be in close contact for less that 15 mins and its okay, but after 15mins you can become infected. Surely with any sort of close contact with an infected person i can get infected ?

This piece from RTE on 7 February, when China were experiencing country-wide lockdowns and the world were focusing on Diamond Princesses in Japan

    https://www.rte.ie/news/ireland/2020/0206/1113607-coronavirus-hse/

"the ability of the virus to transmit from person to person is limited"

"it is not believed to be readily transmissible from person to person, which is why there has not been a huge spread outside China"

If they were the official scientific opinions of the coronavirus, no wonder why we are in crisis now.

The reality that 40K are waiting tests is a failure of government.
Why the media doesn't hold their feet to the fire is another failing.

We don't have the resources to police it. A stretched Garda force and a very small army. We need to be realistic.

    Bit fcking late, eh?

I wonder if that's because member of staff might be showing symptoms?

Doing a roaring trade like they have over the weekend has downsides. i.e increased exposure. Statistically someone in that queue had it. The longer the queue the more likely that someone has it.

    It's a numbers game.

I dont like all this scaremongering that younger people are dropping like flies. Its important not to act like young people are immune, but the stats dont lie, if youre under 60 and have no health conditions, there are a lot of things far more likely to kill you before COVID 19, probably your car ride to work is more likely on a given day,

    Correct
This has been repeated over and over again.

why is there none of the numbers published how many recovered, given start the first cases should be well off, cant imagine this drags more then couple weeks in those who are healthy, so we should see even recovery rate by now, not just stacking those that test positive, if we have close to 1k at least 400 should be clear by now. so certainly a lag on reporting any positive stats.

    Its not really ,

They have done brilliant to manage the amount of Tests they have already,

No one expected this and even if they did it be near impossible to get everyone tested straight away ,

Yesterday we had tested over 10 thousand people in a population of 4.8mil
UK had tested 50k in a population of 66 mil

Lets be real testing is going decently well ,

Maybe they got roasted on social media for it? Any non essential business or person still operating like that are just money grubbing greasy till ringing bastards and they should be shamed for it and memories should be long, so that when this has passed to anywhere back to normal they should be reminded of it by silent tills.

You don't think the government and HSE are looking at what other countries are dong?

Despite them saying on numerous occasions that they are?

Do you think we need the likes of Paddy Cosgrave, who bascially organises parties for nerds, and people on the internet should be the ones to tell them?

Well if they have been then why the fuk have the not even ordered or got protective gear for Hse staff !!! The most the majority of Hse staff have to protect themselves at moment is a pair of gloves!!
They are being reactive to everything ... even as they we’re warned to pull the finger out and be pre active by the Italians!

The staff in Hse and govt depts will try their best to handle this... but their leaders and advisors incompetence in acting earlier is going to cost lives that wouldn’t need to have been

Ps I’m not attacking Harris about this either ... I think he has been playing a blinder... online anyways ... I think his advisor tony Holohan has downplayed the virus too much up to now which is exactly why at least half the country aren’t listening to the social distancing ... he should’ve advised a shut down last week... most working at home or unemployed at this stage anyways so might as well have closed the place down ... it will be enevitable in another week when scores of people come out as infected .... anyways I really hope I’m wrong about the last bit but ...

Genuine question, but even if we have the capacity to take 15000 samples each day, do we really have capacity to test that many samples each day?

Its hard to know because the vast majority of confirmed people are not hospitalised , So there are recovering at home

The welding thing has been blown out of proportion
Any leaked videos posted via VPN by Chinese citizens say they welded some doors in buildings shut so that they were left with only one door in and out which could be monitored. Of course the resulting Fire hazard they created hasn’t been flagged. The important point is that most Chinese people were only too happy to stay at home.
Most Chinese people were only too happy to stay at home? You known that for a fact. I would not like to guess what would have happened to them if they did not do as they were told.

I'm in construction and there is a lot of non-essential construction still going - it's not great - how are you supposed to socially distance on a 3ft wide scaffold?

I would prefer if we could keep our workers infection free so they can help build essentials.

Once it gets into the larger sites it will spread like wildfire anyway.

And who are you to decide? We live in a democracy. People should be able to decide for themselves. God help those people who listened to official guidelines about cervical screening and blood transfusions. People have a right to question stuff.

You don't get to call everyone uniformed cause the "CMO" said. His role in this just as much about the optics of it as I suspect yours is.

We don't need to reinvent the wheel in trying to solve it. Every country on the planet is facing this threat. Some handle better than others. Just cause CMO said so doesn't mean it's gospel.

Looks like herd immunity by "quasi lockdown" is in full effect.
Tell people there is a lockdown and let them all infect each other.
    #TakeItOnTheChin like a champ.
