Exactly. I'm still anticipating a possible 30% rise tomorrow anyway but will be pleased if it's lower. I think the current low ICU count is the big positive takeaway from all of the numbers.

Exactly the deaths and ICU patients are the most important and while 3 deaths is three too many compared to other countries it's very low.

I was in a coffee shop earlier that had no seating area and had about 2metres between each person in the queue.

A girl came in, early 30s I’d say, and stood right on top of me resulting in me jumping out of the queue.

The barista saw this and still called me over next as he knew it was my turn. I was fuming with the girl. Are these people just ignorant or pure thick?

I’m annoyed with myself for not speaking up.

I've asked this question before but what do effect to people think our population density has on our numbers.

The fact that we have way less people than Italy China or the UK would it be safe to say we would be likely see the growth in numbers that they have. We don't have big heavily populated cities so there's a natural social isolation that comes with that.

    And we’re an island...

    Yes, UK is, too!!

Of course two days in a row isn't enough but let's be honeys compared to other country it's not doubling or near to doubling. Downward trends are what we want and hopefully the trend continues.

Italy and other European countries showed seesaw numbers too. Up one day, down the next, up and down,

While it is OT, lads saying the outbreak might reduce pollution and deaths from it

If 1,000 die each year here from air pollution I'd bet it's most likely people with lung conditions

So exactly the types that have a large chance of catching and dying from this anyways

The majority are in Lombardy so far but still terrifyingly high numbers.

I hope it pisses rain for the next 2 weeks. Keep everyone inside and only leaving for actual needs.

You're outta luck, I'm afraid. Sun and warmth up to 14 or so I believe next week. That's almost beach weather for some!

Just pure trash it comes from the parents.

Why wait in line for a coffee now?

I assume you have the means to boil water at home?

We have less density. That has to help certainly. People still have to want this fir it to work though.

question....if someone had it, and got tested say 5-6 days after the symptoms were leaving them....would the test still show as positive ?

It's a big advantage, you can even see it in the breakdown numbers released. The population and cases have definite correlations.

London is being hit hard, same for new York, Lombardy is extremely heavily urbanized. People living cheek by jowl is bad news. Our population spread is a huge advantage

Yeah but I'd say Italy would take a lower number on anything now.

( from that C4 interview) : first case indentified was Feb 26th by that Doctor. The nurse with Corona.

The medical staff didn’t stand a chance - there was no lockdown and travel bans at that stage. That’s the fault of the Italian government AND the EU. Despite what was happening in China.

There is an alternative story that links Italy to an outbreak at German Car Parts company Webasto in January 2020.

So, we don’t have a daily test percentage for positive tests?

That 102 today. I wonder how many tests that is from...

This is the thing. We don't have any gauge on the situation without that number. We keeping looking at % increases and saying, oh that is 30% higher or whatever but we have no idea if roughly the same amount of tests get carried out every day. I think over the course of this Saturday has always registered quite low numbers to other days which suggests the capacity isn't as high into the weekend.

Just caught a Sky News report from Italy - if covid19 victims die in a care home or private home , they ARENT counted in the stats. The Italian death stats are from hospitals.

Jaysus. This could be way way worse than we can even imagine.

While this is partially true, it never really matters until it’s someone close to home, and as stressed completely avoided

Useless if you're in Dublin. It should say which post codes to avoid.

Best avoid most of them , as the UHL ICU doctor said , we need to treat everyone like pariahs !

Dublin is epicentre in Ireland, and it's opened up to the rest of the country, that's not cool. Dublin needs a lockdown and to stop the flights from UK and europe. We could end this quick with those two things, will drag on for months if we don't.

There is that link. But the main point the Doctor was making was the sheer “tsunami” that happened in 5 days. They didn’t stand a chance.

How many people in care homes do you think are dying of covid19 without going to hospital first?

The number of people who die from this outside of a hospital is going to be negligible. It does not seem to be a fast killer.

Number of new cases appears to be decreasing each day? Too early to celebrate yet. A decrease in restrictions ould cause a spike

Italy was too slow and over 50K Italians have been fined for flouting these stricter restrictions, the kind of attitude that allowed it to spread in the first place. Let's not forget the countless idiots who did a runner from Lombardy the day they locked it down.

Definitely agree their reaction was too slow and too mild initially (i was amongst the early advocates of locking down northern Italy and I still remember people saying I was an idiot for it).

But we only reacted marginally earlier in the development of the epidemic, and our containment measures are fairly loose.

For those saying 102 is good that it's a drop, it's possible less samples were tested today as it's a weekend.
Laboratories are working 24/7. There is no reduction in service for Covid19 testing at the weekend.

Do you know that for sure, as I know the virus reference lab has reduced staff at the weekend and it's the only place testing the samples.
There are now 12 labs performing Covid19 testing. This is being increased to more hospital labs.
Am I the only one who thinks just hitting 10k tested in Ireland now is appalling? After what,8 weeks?
What are you basing that on? What number would you be happy with? 500 a day? 1000 a day?

The numbers are what they are. We are testing at current capacity. If you don't understand the testing process and procedures then you don't know what the throughout can be.
Yes but labs here are not a full capacity over a weekend to authorise all the results. Hopefully it is a downward daily trend but I would wait until Tuesday/Wednesday to see how the daily numbers are.
Hospital laboratories have reduced staff at weekends but emergency services like Covid19 testing is being performed 24/7.

South Korea is technically an island too - because of the DMZ with the North. Yet they had a huge outbreak. ( which they got on top of , thankfully)

If we can keep the age profile low, similar to what it is we might have a chance of minimising deaths. Keeping parents/grandparents/elderly/vunerable isolated.
